To want to know if the Republicans have any grounds to suspect fraud

Not a fan of either Trump or Biden.

Due to Trump's pathetic behaviour it is easy to dismiss his claims.

But some claims (if true) seem to be worthy of investigation.

OP posts:

Also, I did do a search, but I don't see any place where Al Schmidt, the (R) city commissioner in charge of voting in Philadelphia, tweeted anti-Trump rhetoric. Do you have a source?

ListeningQuietly · 09/11/2020 18:36

Dead people can get ELECTED in the USA
why worry about them voting Grin

CuriousaboutSamphire · 09/11/2020 18:37

The dead people with a vote has been an issue for decades. A fair few 40/50s sci fi writers used it to drive short stories.

I found it really funny when Trump used that as an accusation, as though it weren't a well know non issue in the system.

As op have said, so far the dead have not used their vote.

That way Silverberg, Heinlein et al lie.

GuyFawkesDay · 09/11/2020 18:38

It's all over twitter. Same for Georgia. He's now annoying the republican party with it.

Funnily enough, he's happy to accept the self same voting slips for the senate (which republican party retained) as genuine.....Hmm

MarshaBradyo · 09/11/2020 18:39

Listening to legal team talk about thousands coming forward to testify.. well I hope no perjury.

But will take any post debunking legal stance, as I want him to go.

gwenneh · 09/11/2020 18:39

@CuriousaboutSamphire I actually just laughed out loud.

"To Sail Beyond The Sunset" indeed.

StrippedFridge · 09/11/2020 18:41

They would have us believe the US electoral system can enable hundreds of thousands of fake votes AND this only mattered in this election AND this was only taken advantage of by Democrats not Republicans AND only in swing states where the Democrats beat Trump.

Seems unlikely to me.

Furthermore, if one side knew voter fraud at scale were possible, which side would have used it? Trump of course.

lyralalala · 09/11/2020 18:42

@CuriousaboutSamphire

Given how little sense US political process makes to me I thought this would be difficult to work out. But, just from looking at the pictures his team put with their words:

We couldn't get our observers in to watch the count --> picture of about 200 people in the hall watching and another 5-600 trying to get through the doors!

Just that one thing alone gives me the strong impression that he's talking crap!

They went to court with one and then their own legal team had to admit they had a “none zero number” of observers in place
lyralalala · 09/11/2020 18:42

*non zero

DesperatelySeekingSunshine · 09/11/2020 18:43

Surely if they were voting fraudulently they’d have voted Dems in up and down the ballot.

Chloemol · 09/11/2020 18:45

He has to prove it. And if he wants postal votes discounted that should apply to all states

lyralalala · 09/11/2020 18:45

If the Democrats used fraud to get rid of tromp you’d think they’d have fraudulently stole a few senate seats as well to give themselves actual power

There's no way there was widespread fraud. 145 million people voted, how would you even co-ordinate it to such a close call.?! of course there will be some errors but on a minuscule scale - within the realms of risk. If you genuinely had evidence, even if you're Donald trump, you wouldn't be on the golf course.

He's a proper div. Good riddance!

ListeningQuietly · 09/11/2020 18:53

I'm still gobsmacked that India can ballot and count 600m electors in 48 hours
but America takes weeks to cope with 150m

purplecorkheart · 09/11/2020 18:56

From what I understand Trump told his supporters to not vote with postal votes and to go to the polling station. They did.

When they counted the polling stations results he did well. But when they started counting the postal votes (which most Trump supporters did not do). They he started losing.

If you voted by postal vote and it was not received (you could track it) you could go to the polling station and vote as far as I am aware (I was sick over the weekend so may not be explaining it 100% right).

Ansjovis · 09/11/2020 18:58

Lower down the ballot, republicans actually made gains on the democrats. There's only the one ballot, yet it's just the presidential race they're disputing. That doesn't sound dodgy at all, does it?

gwenneh · 09/11/2020 19:05

@purplecorkheart You understand correctly.

However, each state handles absentee and provisional balloting differently, hence the levels of confusion. Some states did not have the ballot tracking system. Some mail absentee ballots to everyone. Some allow voters who were previously unregistered to register and cast a provisional vote on the day.

In all cases, you could go cast a provisional ballot in person if you felt your postal vote hadn't been counted -- those provisionals were last to be counted, so each state's oversight committee could be sure multiple ballots weren't cast (heavy penalties if anyone attempted it.)

In the case of all of the states the mechanism for absentee and postal voting existed, this was just an exercise in scale.

mumwon · 09/11/2020 19:05

the biggest fraud was republicans (looking at you Texas) who tried to manipulate postal service by cutting it back before the election even though central government provide funding (that was courtesy of Trump) & Texas restricted the number of places people could vote. ie slowing down the post & making it more difficult for people to vote

Hillary predicted this four years ago in the debate.

I think you’re a Trump supporter in disguise OP! Own up, it’s fine.

It seems to be a Rep tactic, look at how Al Gore was bullied.

MetalMoo · 09/11/2020 19:13

He's basically trying to rile up his supporters and sending out fundraising emails which admit (in the small print) that half of the money raised will be used to discharge his campaign's debts (they've still not paid several of the venues where he held rallies). He's a conman.

SometimesMaybe · 09/11/2020 19:15

I think you have to remember how Trump operates - as a businessman he is incredibly litigious. In real estate if he sees something he doesn’t like he can afford to run opposition into the ground with years of expensive legal action. He would throw lots of actions around in the hope one sticks or the opposition can’t afford to defend it. He’s trying to do similar here. However, as this concerns, you know, the Presidency of the USA, It will be dealt with speedily by the courts and the opposition aren’t going anywhere. I understand he also doesn’t have the shit hot lawyer team around him anymore so they possibly are able to make reasonable claims.

Xiaoxiong · 09/11/2020 19:16

It's completely ridiculous. I notice they're not claiming that house and senate votes were rigged and yet they're all on the same ballot paper. It doesn't pass the laugh test - yet I fear trump will stir up enough anger among his faithful that someone will go out and start shooting people.
