Circuit break in england?

Ilovegreentomatoes · 18/10/2020 18:41

Do you think boris will announce one by the end of the week? It would make sense to coincide with schools half term.
I think we need one, cases rising everywhere with the potential of higher death rates.
All these tier lockdowns are rubbish and confusing imo a 2 week circuit break is the best way forward to keep things under some control.

And then what?

cardibach · 18/10/2020 18:42

Nope. I’ll be very surprised if he does one Starmer has suggested it. He couldn’t face looking like he listens to anyone else.
Glad I’m in Wales where we will get one by the looks of it.

cardibach · 18/10/2020 18:43

@LittleBearPad

And then what?
And the effective test, trace, isolate which can cope when the numbers aren’t so huge. But Johnson won’t sort that either, so you’re probably right, it’s probably pointless in England. 63% tracing of conacts. It’s 96% in Wales.
RoseAndRose · 18/10/2020 18:44

Don't some places have half term starting this week?

Leaving it until the end of the week seems a bit too late - should be a fortnight from today, so that most schools have half term plus one,
(not half term followed by two)

Ilovegreentomatoes · 18/10/2020 18:45

Wales are getting things under control quick which is what england should be doing.

countrygirl99 · 18/10/2020 18:45

Effective track and track in another 2 weeks 🤣🤣🤣🤣

QueenofLean · 18/10/2020 18:47

We’re in England and half term has already started so he’ll have to work quickly.

QueenofLean · 18/10/2020 18:48

If he announces it at the end of the week our half term will have finished!

LittleBearPad · 18/10/2020 18:48

@countrygirl99

Effective track and track in another 2 weeks 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Well quite Grin
Letseatgrandma · 18/10/2020 18:48

It’s far too much of a sensible idea for Boris to go for.

SunbathingDragon · 18/10/2020 18:50

No, it’s too little and too late for the virus and too damaging for the economy.

Ilovegreentomatoes · 18/10/2020 18:50

Didn't realise so many were already in half term.im southeast .

How do we know that Wales are getting things under control?

Has their data started to go down?

Ilovegreentomatoes · 18/10/2020 18:51

Economy will only be damaged further if we continue to ignore this.

OP posts:
bigbluebus · 18/10/2020 18:52

Half term hasn't started everywhere in England - it starts on 26th here

NotAKaren · 18/10/2020 18:52

It will take longer than 2 weeks to sort out the testing system mess and get the numbers down. If it happens it will be extended and drag on for far longer.

MarshaBradyo · 18/10/2020 18:53

Someone on R4 said circuit breaker was a PR term. Ie it sounds like it’ll work more effectively than lockdown. It won’t and lockdown was long for a reason. It took a ages to get numbers down.

No I don’t think so. Government messages have been no, but not rule out.

Plus like many, we’re already on half term.

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 18/10/2020 18:54

I have plans in half term. After a difficult return to school Id really hope they get a half term.

cardibach · 18/10/2020 18:56

@satnighttakeaway Wales’ data is better than England’s in recent weeks. We are going for what we are calling a fire break this week according to hints and leaks. Our track and trace hits 96% of contacts.
Yes, Wales is more in control than England.

SunbathingDragon · 18/10/2020 18:56

@Ilovegreentomatoes

Economy will only be damaged further if we continue to ignore this.
But a two week lockdown is meaningless for the virus. It has to be much much longer to be effective so the only thing damaged during a circuit breaker is the economy. The economy will also continue to suffer with the virus spreading but some businesses can just about scrape through week by week but not if they close for a fortnight. So since the virus won’t be affected if we lockdown for a fortnight now or next week, the economy will.
LittleBearPad · 18/10/2020 18:57

A ‘fire break’ is just another term for lockdown.

It wouldn’t have to. Sack set of, get the money back and pass it to local authorities. Use the rest of the money to fund support for lockdown. Boris won’t though, as it’s all money for mates with him.
cardibach · 18/10/2020 18:57

Sack Serco*

Yes, that’s what I said Hmm
MarshaBradyo · 18/10/2020 18:58

Sunbathing yep great at killing off businesses not as good at getting numbers down
