Circuit break in england?

Do you think boris will announce one by the end of the week? It would make sense to coincide with schools half term.
I think we need one, cases rising everywhere with the potential of higher death rates.
All these tier lockdowns are rubbish and confusing imo a 2 week circuit break is the best way forward to keep things under some control.

@IcedPurple
Agree wholeheartedly. Unfortunately by the time people realise the economic effects the damage will have been done.

Cariadm · 20/10/2020 14:36

FFS!!!! Stop calling him bloody BORIS!!!!! He's not your mate or friend, you don't know him personally and he definitely isn't the cute and cuddly 'buffoon' that the name implies and is the image he nurtures!!! He's a corrupt and callous, selfish and narcissistic, devious and greedy right wing shyster!!! He's a puppet PM and the incompetence and ineptitude is merely a front for the reality that is far worse.

Calling him "the floppy headed fuckwit" tends to get me into trouble. (Gets me into even more trouble when DD1 repeats it)

Iced purple:
It (the economy), affects every single one of us. Including smug MNers who've loved the chance to bake organic banana bread and do Zoom pilates classes during lockdown.
......
I've never actually met one of those in real life and I think they would wear me out in five minutes.

You are quite right, the state of the economy affects us all in some way. However, economies do recover and the more people who are alive and well, the quicker it will happen.

YABU to post this outside the Coronavirus topic, another thing turning Mumsnet into Covidnet.

And if it happens, it won't be two weeks: posters on here are already talking about three. If Saint Boris the Bellend caves to pressure, it will be:
"Just another week...
Just another week...
Just another week month...
Just another month year..."
All with no end in sight, while people lose their jobs, livelihoods, businesses, homes, mental health. And lives. Yes, lockdowns, circuit breakers, firebreaks etc. are KILLING people. Figures can be made up, and are almost certainly being invented to suit Saint Boris's agenda of fear. He has no clue: is he aiming for the utopia of total virus eradication?

We haven't forgotten his whopping lie "we can turn this virus around in twelve weeks". He's not good at ending restrictions when he says he will. He is a big fucking liar, like many prime ministers before him.

The forthcoming massive recession will only be made deeper by a circuit breaker, and it will KILL MORE PEOPLE. Recessions do that. Saint Boris the bellend won't care: he'll be long gone by the time that reality bites.

Alexander then?

'FFS!!!! Stop calling him bloody BORIS!!!!! He's not your mate or friend'

I used to think this when peope called Saddam Hussein 'Saddam' like they knew him really well but it's whichever name the media use and it just kind of sticks.

I prefer Johnson, Starmer and Sturgeon to Boris, Keir and Nicola. Although Starmer's middle name Rodney suits him and his quiff better.

YeaSure · 20/10/2020 16:37

Just close the schools for two weeks.
I guarantee the numbers will plummet.

After all, 75% of these massive numbers are easy to link back to schools being open.

Theredjellybean · 20/10/2020 16:57

@yeasure

Then what????

WendyE · 20/10/2020 18:23

I'm tired of hearing the effect on economy, which I understnd is of paramount importance to a lot of folk, but the focus should be on stopping the spread of this virus

Well, unless you want to pay privately for using the NHS, police, fire services, the public highway, and state schools, how do you think these services are paid for?
That's right - the economy - with working people paying taxes to fund all of these services amongst other things.
The virus will be with us a long time until we get an effective vaccine, so get used to it!

Nah - ‘Boris’ does not deserve that respect from me

DollyD65 · 21/10/2020 07:43

The purpose of the 2 week lockdown in Wales is to try and stop the NHS being overwhelmed. There is unlikely to be a huge reduction in cases immediately. No, it isn't great for business or mental health but allowing an exponential rise in infection rates is far worse.

Well how will you get the economy going if everyone, including skilled workers are ill? What about long term effects on covid? It is a balance. Atm, its the economy that is taking all the focus.
Rainbowb · 21/10/2020 20:56

I’m sick of the phrase “circuit break” already and all the other covidspeak jargon that’s infected our language. No idea what he’s going to announce next, none of us do. Can’t really bothered to speculate but any kind of lockdown is really just dragging the whole thing out even longer. People aren’t obeying the rules so this thing is here to stay until we get a vaccine.

VinylDetective · 21/10/2020 20:58

No fucking way. Where I live there are 55 cases per 100,000. Neighbouring counties are equally low. There’s no need for it here.
