When did you start getting grey hair?

I was having a conversation with a friend a few days ago, she started getting her first grey hairs in her early 20's and has been dying them for approx 10yrs now. I found my first few strands at my temples in January at the age of 35. I thought I was doing well to reach that age before getting my first greys, but my husband (who is 13yrs older BTW) thinks it's very young as he only has them in his stubble, he does have them in his hair but won't admit it!!! 😂 😂 So what does everyone else think??

30 ish.

Have quite a few now in my mid 30s.

totallyyesno · 15/08/2020 20:09

A few odd ones in my mid forties but you couldn't see them without squinting. Got a few more in lockdown though (47) but not enough to start dyeing.

Hublott · 15/08/2020 20:10

The first year my first child was born Blush

PaperMonster · 15/08/2020 20:10

Am 50 and just got a couple of grey eyebrow hairs in the past year. Mum was in her 70s before she went grey.

theriverrunsdeep · 15/08/2020 20:11

Teens - first greys at secondary school.

Hublott · 15/08/2020 20:11

32

Early 20’s. Now early 40s. Hair would be white if I didn’t dye it. Lockdown was horrendous without access to hairdresser .

isabellerossignol · 15/08/2020 20:12

I've just recently got my first at 45. But most people I know have had significant grey hairs since their mid 30s, I think I have been a bit of a freak of nature.

Tunnocks34 · 15/08/2020 20:12

17! I’m 31 now and half of my head is grey if I didn’t keep on top of it.

I have black hair, and I’m going to get it lightened next month to allow the greys to blend better in between getting my roots done.

I refuse to go grey. Some woman rock the natural, grey hair look. I ain’t one of them.

AnneLovesGilbert · 15/08/2020 20:12

I’m late 30s and don’t have any (on my head Blush) but my mum started going grey around 20 and was nearly white by 30. She died it till lockdown when she grew it out and it’s gorgeous now, all silvery and soft and she’s had a beautiful new style.

DH started greying in his mid 20s and it’s a handsome salt and pepper now in his mid 40s.

I was in my 3rd year at uni, so it was the 94-95 academic year, so I was between 22 and 23. I had one, then I had just a small number for quite a long time, and then I think when I was around 40 I realised I had loads. I have lots now (I'm 47).

TattiePants · 15/08/2020 20:13

I remember pulling out a white hair in a school science lesson so 15ish. Also, I've never had grey hair, mine is either dark brown or brilliant white!

Englishrosegarden · 15/08/2020 20:14
  1. Natural hair colour was dark brown.. I dyed it every few weeks until I hit 40 and decided I couldn't be bothered any more. I'm now early 50s and have long white hair.
It amuses me that people pay hundreds to get my hair colour now.
HoneyWheeler · 15/08/2020 20:15

16! I've been growing out my greys since just before lockdown (now early 30s) but today I caved and dyed as have been feeling pretty frumpy already and the grey wasn't really helping!

angelfishrock · 15/08/2020 20:15

have very few - mid 40s now. Think I noticed the first at 41/41.

DollyDally · 15/08/2020 20:15

Got my first grey hairs at 18 - I’m now mid 40’s and my hair would be mostly white if didn’t dye it. Was half tempted to grow out the dye during lockdown but I think it would be too ageing for me. Hate my white roots though - I have brown hair and it’s harsh if I don’t have highlights.

LaPoesieEstDansLaRue · 15/08/2020 20:16

Early 30s

gingerninja99 · 15/08/2020 20:16

No greys for me (I'm 43) but since I turned 40 my temples are producing pure white hair, I have very thick red hair naturally so although they are white they are not anymore uncontrollable than my natural hair Grin

Jagsy · 15/08/2020 20:16
  1. My grandad had gone grey very young and passed that onto me. I was grey for many years before my parents even got their first grey hair!
Chocolateandamaretto · 15/08/2020 20:16

Late 20s. Am 30 now and don’t need to dye it or anything but do have grey strands in my hair. DH is 35 and is pretty similar.

SimonJT · 15/08/2020 20:16

Laye twenties, I’m 32 and now have a fair bit of grey on the sides and on the chin area of my beard.

LunaHardy · 15/08/2020 20:17

Since about aged 26! I'm in early 30's now and they've spread somewhat! I dye my hair blonder now so they're not as obvious.

ragged · 15/08/2020 20:17
  1. Never dyed it. Screw that. Friend was mostly grey by age 25. He wore it long & proud.
AllNaturalIngredients · 15/08/2020 20:18

First noticed one at 32, at 37 I don’t have very many & wouldn’t need to dye it yet (but I do cause I like changing my hair colour)

I know people at school who had to dye their greys as teens!

Hendalle · 15/08/2020 20:19

I’m 37 and 0 greys for me so far. It’s only a matter of time though as Mum had greys by this age! Although I do remember when I was 8 or 9 mum found a grey hair on me, she was Shock and tried to downplay it. I didn’t care, and it’s never come back.. I’m on weekly inspections these days, including my eyebrows.
One of my cousins was grey by 22! And a friend started going grey in her mid 20s. DH had a few greys when we met 12yrs ago (we also have an age gap), he now sports a salt and pepper look and I like to think I’m responsible for some of it Grin
