When did you start getting grey hair?

I was having a conversation with a friend a few days ago, she started getting her first grey hairs in her early 20's and has been dying them for approx 10yrs now. I found my first few strands at my temples in January at the age of 35. I thought I was doing well to reach that age before getting my first greys, but my husband (who is 13yrs older BTW) thinks it's very young as he only has them in his stubble, he does have them in his hair but won't admit it!!! 😂 😂 So what does everyone else think??

Early 30s, which seems to be about the most common time for my group of friends.

Flappingflamingo · 15/08/2020 20:20

I'm so jealous of those who have got to 40+ before going grey, and also those who can embrace it! I literally have a couple of strands, mainly on my left temple but I'm not ready to see them yet so have started dying my hair 🤣

I'm about to turn 30 and I'm seeing about 10 ish greys now between dye jobs. The women in my family go grey young.

museumum · 15/08/2020 20:22

42 before I saw any in my head.
Down below though.... Blush

  1. In dark brunette hair. Plucked them out till I developed a bald patch 😳.

Started box dyeing in early 20s. Was thoroughly sick of it by early 30s (had to do roots every 2 wks). Shaved my head. My new hair came through an entirely different colour and texture 😮.

Am now 40, totally grey (mid grey with bright platinum streaks, looks like it's been "done"). Will never dye again!

Think it's all genetics tbh. Both my grannies were short, plump, grey haired ladies and I think I'm destined to be the same!

Age 14.

DotTheCaddy · 15/08/2020 20:23

Not me but my DH, he has just started going grey at 30 so quite young! His dad was completely grey by his age.

Baileyscoffeeandcampfires · 15/08/2020 20:27

23 just after first pregnancy.

Lockdown has made me grow out the grey for the first time in 18 years and I have a tremendous white streak at the front that never really knew existed. The rest is just scattered at parting and temples

BritWifeinUSA · 15/08/2020 20:30
  1. Have been coloring it ever since. I’m now 46. Husband is 54 and not a single gray hair. Beautiful head of hair with glowing locks down to his waist worthy of a shampoo advert. Not fair.
Gindrinker43 · 15/08/2020 20:30

I'm 48, not colouring my hair for months during lockdown has revealed the first odd stay grey hair.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 15/08/2020 20:30

Found my first one when I was 30, I was a bit ditsy at the time and thought it was just a really blonde hair (it was white).

Now 42 and I have a scattering of grey in dark blonde hair, so it doesn't show that much yet.

Apart from teenage experimentation, I've never dyed my hair.

Whatsissname · 15/08/2020 20:31

The odd strand from about 14/15 - started going proper grey early 20s

twinklynightlights · 15/08/2020 20:35

I'm 39 and do feel incredibly lucky to not have any yet. Have asked my hairdresser to tell me as soon as she spots any so I can start dyeing them straight away.

Although grey hair can obviously look gorgeous, it's so unfair that people who get it young have to spend so much extra money covering it up over the years (if they wish). That, along with that 'oh shit, I'm not immortal' moment, if that makes sense...

GreekOddess · 15/08/2020 20:37

I got my first at 43 and I've gained a new one each year. I'm 47 so have 4 they are not very noticeable at all.

Mumfymum · 15/08/2020 20:39

Early 40s. My natural colour is ginger, I've read that redheads go grey later than other hair colours?

VettiyaIruken · 15/08/2020 20:40

Mid 20s I think.
I'm 46 now and have quite a bit of grey, particularly by my temples

dwiz8 · 15/08/2020 20:40

I got my first few at about 23/24

vintageyoda · 15/08/2020 20:40

18

gingganggooleywotsit · 15/08/2020 20:40

I'm 42 and just found them in my temples a few weeks ago!

Justjoshin22 · 15/08/2020 20:45

Mid 20s but only a few. I am 33 now and the state of my hair during lockdown... it was disgraceful. You’re doing well OP!

Merryoldgoat · 15/08/2020 20:46

First few appeared late teens. More by late twenties. A lot by 40.

I tried to go grey but it doesn’t suit me so I’m back to the dye.

WitchenKitch · 15/08/2020 20:48

I'm in my early 40s and have only seen one or two at my temple. I am crossing fingers for a dramatic streak!

DramaAlpaca · 15/08/2020 20:50

I'm 56. I still don't have any grey hairs. I was a bit concerned that I might spot a few when I couldn't get my highlights done during lockdown, but no, all my regrowth was my natural dark blonde.

My DM only has a few grey hairs at 84, and her mother was the same.

Twirlytwoo · 15/08/2020 20:51

26, coincided with when I got my job and was really stressed! Then more appeared when I had my first child Grin

AlCalavicci · 15/08/2020 20:51

I started at about 17 so did my DB , both of our DPs went grey very young so we knew we would succumb too.
We have never dyed it .
