When did you start getting grey hair?

I was having a conversation with a friend a few days ago, she started getting her first grey hairs in her early 20's and has been dying them for approx 10yrs now. I found my first few strands at my temples in January at the age of 35. I thought I was doing well to reach that age before getting my first greys, but my husband (who is 13yrs older BTW) thinks it's very young as he only has them in his stubble, he does have them in his hair but won't admit it!!! 😂 😂 So what does everyone else think??

  1. Ten years later I am still grey at temples but you can't see it because my top layers cover it. The rest is natural blonde.
PenguinsOnParade · 15/08/2020 23:38

I have idea when it started turning grey but a friend at university found a full length grey in my shoulder-length hair when I was 21. I'm rapidly approaching 40 and learned during lockdown that I'd be almost fully grey if I stopped dyeing it now.

PenguinsOnParade · 15/08/2020 23:39

NO idea.

BillywigSting · 15/08/2020 23:39

I was 13 when I found my first one. My df was completely grey by the time he was 35.

Nearly 30 now and have quite a few silvery streaks. I actually quite like it.

I lost too many friends too young and had atrocious mental health as a teenager, and seeing it in the mirror reminds me that I survived long enough to get grey hair, when not everyone does.

I don't think I'll ever dye it.

babydisney · 15/08/2020 23:40

I've been dying my hair for ten years and I'm mid 20's over lock down, I started growing out my natural hair and found a single grey, horrified.

mycauldronisleaky · 15/08/2020 23:42
  1. All round my hair line.
IncyWincyGrownUp · 15/08/2020 23:58

Found my first greys mat 17, but they’ve not taken over like I though they would. I’m 40, and there’s still only a slight smattering of them.

Sometime in late 40s My mum had full head of brown hair in her 70s.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 16/08/2020 00:03

I was mid 30s when my hairdresser suggested I had all over colour rather than highlights - coloured it myself after that for about ten years, then embraced the grey, took ages to grow the colour out.
Mostly white now, which I love - a bit darker at the back sadly

17

shas19 · 16/08/2020 00:22

18, day after I gave birth😂

LizB62A · 16/08/2020 00:30

12 on dark brown hair

95% grey by 25
Started colouring it at 30, stopped at 55, lovely platinum silver now and so much easier !

DisneyMillie · 16/08/2020 00:36

I’m 40 and have a few but not enough to dye my hair. My dad had thick deep red hair and all that’s happened to him so far at 72 is a bit of grey at the temples and the colour had toned down to a browner colour - no one believes he is his age! - am hoping I inherit his luck!!

GidgetGirl · 16/08/2020 00:46

Late teens. I’m now 35 and about 10% shiny silver evenly spread through dark chestnut hair. It’s never really bothered me.. I spent so long dyeing my hair every colour under the sun between the ages of 11 and 17 that I got well and truly fed up of all the faff. It may reach a point eventually in which the silver/brown balance starts to become unflattering of course. But for now it only needs a really good hair cut (a proper bob) to keep it looking fresh.

therhubarbbrothers · 16/08/2020 00:49

Late 40s but noticeable more now in my 50s

DressingGownofDoom · 16/08/2020 00:55

In my twenties but now in my mid 30s they've really taken off this year (along with half the world I imagine)

shinyredbus · 16/08/2020 00:55

35

Littleposh · 16/08/2020 01:02

14 for my first one and have been completely white since I was at least 35, hard to tell exactly when as I was colouring my hair dark brown (my natural colour) until 2 years ago when I had enough of the upkeep and had all the colour stripped out so I could go grey 'gracefully' . . .

I love my new colour and the fact that I am free from having to maintain it although I am still confused when I see myself with light coloured hair after most of my life being very dark!!

Gooseysgirl · 16/08/2020 01:22

I'm 45 and I've plucked out about 5 white hairs from my temples in the last few months - I blame coronavirus related stress!! My mum went grey at 18, but on my dad's side of the family very little grey hair before age 50so I think I inherited his hair genes 😄

Atomsaway · 16/08/2020 01:29

I was 26 when I found the first grey hair. I’ve been dyeing it for years. Now that I’m 40, I have decided to embrace the grey. I had my hair cut short and I feel very liberated!

butterry · 16/08/2020 01:37

I had 5-10 strands when I was mid teens. Now at mid 30s I still have the same amount. I’m sure they will suddenly start multiplying soon!

HoldMyLobster · 16/08/2020 01:47

I'm 51 and I've got one grey streak.

DD is 17 and has more grey hairs than I do.

yelyah22 · 16/08/2020 01:52

I was 24! I've got loads now.

user32723 · 16/08/2020 02:00

35 and don't have one yet but I've started to check regularly and feeling anxious about it. My mum went great at 19, I've heard it always comes from your father's side but could be an old wives tale. I've always said I'd just grow it out and I think it's awesome to see undyed hair on younger women. But worried it might just only suit a lucky few, I have almost black hair, so it will stand out.

Funny story though, when I was about 5 I remember total uproar when I went for a hair cut at my nans hairdressers with her, and the hairdresser found a white hair and everyone was crowding round in shock after she'd announced it to the salon, and then the hairdresser was like 'false alarm! It's not one of hers'.

babydisney · 16/08/2020 02:41

Luckily I have asked my mum about this and she has told me I have had a couple of greys since I was born (I have aspergers, anxiety and a severe lung condition if that is anything to go by.) I have been dying my hair since around 13 and have been dye free since Jan and now have noticed a single grey so not the end of the world hopefully I can grow it healthfully before having to die again by 30 ish
