When did you start getting grey hair?

I was having a conversation with a friend a few days ago, she started getting her first grey hairs in her early 20's and has been dying them for approx 10yrs now. I found my first few strands at my temples in January at the age of 35. I thought I was doing well to reach that age before getting my first greys, but my husband (who is 13yrs older BTW) thinks it's very young as he only has them in his stubble, he does have them in his hair but won't admit it!!! 😂 😂 So what does everyone else think??

@Mumfymum

Early 40s. My natural colour is ginger, I've read that redheads go grey later than other hair colours?
Oh, this is something I've wondered about - I'm a coppery brunette.
roastbeetrootsalad · 15/08/2020 20:52

I must be lucky! I'm 41 and have none! I didn't realise that a lot of my friends had grey hair until I saw their lockdown hair!

Dh was a bright baked bean ginger when I met him aged 22.

At 48 he's at least 40% grey where the baldness hasn't got him. His beard is 80% grey

I’m not totally sure as I’d dyed my hair since I was around 16.
I stopped dying a couple of years ago out of curiosity and to save money.
I’m early 40s now and multi tone grey with some dark and some white streaks. I use platinum/silver products and am constantly being asked who/where I get my colour done Grin I’ve never been happier with my hair than I am now.

oblada · 15/08/2020 20:53

I'm pretty sure hairs aren't grey. Ever. They're white or your natural colour and together can appear grey.
35yrs old and no white hair so far but husband (38) has had some for the last few years.

lazylinguist · 15/08/2020 20:54

I'm 48 and don't have visible grey hairs, I just find the odd one or two. My hair is fairish mousy brown and I recently had a few highlights put in, so even less likely a few greys would be visible now.

passthemustard · 15/08/2020 20:54

Age 18. My DD started having greys about age 10!

Y0ubetterwerk · 15/08/2020 20:54
  1. Have to dye every week now. I don't think there's an ekegent way to transition to full grey/white in your 30s. Could do fashion grey but the upkeep would be the same as now and once the colour is stripped from my hair, it won't come back. Huge change, especially if I don't like it. Drives me bananas and costs a fucking fortune.
CeeceeBloomingdale · 15/08/2020 20:55

I was 11, I used to be really pissed off by people moaning they had found one grey hair in their 40s when they knew I was dying my hair weekly to hide the complete white hair in my 20s. I stopped dying it altogether in my late 30s and now rock the white.

userabcname · 15/08/2020 20:56

Spotted my first greys last year so 31. Still at the stage I can pluck them out but fucking sucks.

LonelyGir1 · 15/08/2020 20:56

Late 30s. No grey

HanPanPeg · 15/08/2020 20:57

Mid 20s and now mid 30s I do have to dye my hair (although not totally grey). Dark brunette.

I think people should say if they are have brown hair / blonde / ginger - I reckon there’s more of a big difference. Older friends with red and blonde hair are still grey free.

Also it’s genetics - my mum went grey in early 20s too!

KrabbyPatties · 15/08/2020 20:58

46
Dark brown hair

I have about 7 coming out of my crown.... I’m hoping for a mallet streak to develop.....

KarlKennedysDurianFruit · 15/08/2020 20:58

When I had DS at 35, I'm sure it was the sleep deprivation. I have a little streak behind my right ear but it's not noticeable so I don't dye it. They don't seem to be coming back as they fall out, so maybe it was the trauma of child birth!

TheOldestCat · 15/08/2020 20:58

18 for me. I’ve dyed it for years but am embracing my ‘natural highlights’ at 44, thanks to lockdown.

APJ1 · 15/08/2020 21:00

I think my very first one was at 18, then I had several more by 25. Now I have a considerable amount of grey hair at 32 but not quite yet enough to need it coloured.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 15/08/2020 21:00

First grey at 31. Am now 57 and only about 5% grey.

KarlKennedysDurianFruit · 15/08/2020 21:01

My hair is a reddish, golden brown colour, strawberry blonde in the sun. My gran is eighty and was a proper red head, her hair looks like blonde with highlights now but she's never dyed it.

marypoppinsreturns · 15/08/2020 21:02

18 sadly.

Bibijayne · 15/08/2020 21:02
  1. No grey hairs. But my younger brother is entirely silver.
Flappingflamingo · 15/08/2020 21:07

@QuentinQuarantino that looks amazing!!!! 😍😍😍
Did find one grey eyebrow hair the other day...

55 ... I’m nearly 60 and count on one hand my greys.

GwendolineMarysLaces · 15/08/2020 21:11

I'm 45 and don't have any yet. My dad has similar colouring to me and was in his late 60s when he went grey so I'm hoping I've got his genes

ScrummyDiva2 · 15/08/2020 21:12

47 and just found a couple!

littlepeas · 15/08/2020 21:13

A few around my hairline - I’m nearly 38. Think I noticed the first one when I was about 33? It’s been slow so far - hope it stays that way! Pretty sure I’m getting a badger stripe.
