When did you start getting grey hair?

I was having a conversation with a friend a few days ago, she started getting her first grey hairs in her early 20's and has been dying them for approx 10yrs now. I found my first few strands at my temples in January at the age of 35. I thought I was doing well to reach that age before getting my first greys, but my husband (who is 13yrs older BTW) thinks it's very young as he only has them in his stubble, he does have them in his hair but won't admit it!!! 😂 😂 So what does everyone else think??

17 or so. But blonde so wasn’t too bad. My mum had jet black hair and started at 16. My dd has mates (Brothers)who started at primary school.

looselegs · 15/08/2020 21:16

I'm 52. No grey yet! I have red hair, which everyone bullied me about at school. They're the one's spending hundreds of pounds a year on hair dye!

ILoveFood87 · 15/08/2020 21:17

I had my first one at 17. My son has had 1 strand of grey hair since about 7. Just that one hair grows grey. We have bad genes obviously.

JammyHands · 15/08/2020 21:17

I found a single white hair in my dad's hair, she's 5.
I'm 33 and never had a single one... yet. Dp a year younger has a few.

MostlyAmbridgeandcoffee · 15/08/2020 21:18

DanielRicciardosSmile · 15/08/2020 21:18

  1. I'm 38 now and have 60% grey concentrated mostly at the front and temples. I stopped dyeing 3 years ago.
Kote · 15/08/2020 21:20

Around 14 when I found my first one! I'm 27 now and my hair is ~10% grey

Marylou62 · 15/08/2020 21:22

My DM said she found one in my black hair at 9! Grey temples by 21, first permanent dye job by 30..at 55 I had it cut from bra strap length, very straight to very short for charity after an accident making sitting for a long time in hairdresser difficult.. Have beautiful mostly white hair now.. Will never dye it again and it's liberating..

stanski · 15/08/2020 21:24

I'm 34 and saw them this year first time. My mom who is in her 60s only got them last year. Go figure

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 15/08/2020 21:25

I'm 53 and .... not yet. I'm very dark haired. I owe it to my Dad, I think: Mum was going grey in her late teens Shock

rottiemum88 · 15/08/2020 21:25

I have a few strands at 32, all at the parting near the front of my head. MIL is 63 and probably has less than me Envy

DinoDeb · 15/08/2020 21:26

33 and I’ve started finding the odd one or five towards the front. Dark brown hair so fairly visible and I’ll probably start dying soon. I haven’t dyed my hair since I had pink streaks when I was 17 and I really can’t be bothered with the faff!

moonbells · 15/08/2020 21:27

I noted the first white one in a temple at 45. Still only have a few at the temples in my mid-50s with the odd longer one. My mother was only 50:50 at 85 and I seem to have taken after her. Natural strawberry blonde. I find it ironic that quite a few contemporaries have chosen to go my exact colour when they go grey.

DH is well on the way to being fully grey, though it's a race whether he goes grey before it, well, goes... Grin

Newbiehere123 · 15/08/2020 21:29

31 when I had first baby. Every time I dye my hair now, I seem to get more and more.

pastaparadise · 15/08/2020 21:34

Found my first at 39 having just had dc1. Now at 45 i have a few, but not visible unless you look for them - hair is highlighted noisy brown.

bellinisurge · 15/08/2020 21:34
  1. As I prepared for the school disco.
DigitalGhost · 15/08/2020 21:36

32 and not had one yet. My husbands had loads since he was about 17.

YesINameChangeEveryDay · 15/08/2020 21:38

I'm 33 and no sign of greys yet. My mum is almost 64 and has very few greys. We discovered this as she hasn't had her hair dyed since the beginning of March and you'd hardly know.

menofharlech · 15/08/2020 21:38

Early 30s. 15 years later and I'm still only about 30% grey. I wish it would speed up. I stopped dying about 2 years ago as my hair grows super fast and the roots looked so obvious with the hope it would be whiter but it's not. My hair is light brown/mousey so it washes me out a bit.

I do have a mallet streak on my parting though - love that.

WitchenKitch · 15/08/2020 21:49

Oh, I once met a doctor who had what I guess was a Mallen streak - on her temple, in her eyebrow, and in her eyelashes, like a straight line down. Young, dark hair. It was the most striking thing, never seen anything like it before or since.

SparkyTheCat · 15/08/2020 21:59

Early 20s and now completely grey at 40. DGM and DM too, so I guess genetics were always against me on the going grey front. Although now the dye's nearly grown out, I think I actually quite like my grey...
