When did you start getting grey hair?

I was having a conversation with a friend a few days ago, she started getting her first grey hairs in her early 20's and has been dying them for approx 10yrs now. I found my first few strands at my temples in January at the age of 35. I thought I was doing well to reach that age before getting my first greys, but my husband (who is 13yrs older BTW) thinks it's very young as he only has them in his stubble, he does have them in his hair but won't admit it!!! 😂 😂 So what does everyone else think??

I'm 37 and don't have any yet. But my younger sister was probably late 20s when she got her first. DH is 36 and has a sprinkling.

I found my first white hairs, definitely not grey, when I was 18. My hair is naturally black so it was quite a contrast and noticeable.

I stopped coloring my hair when I couldn't go more than one week without the white baiting showing through as I became over 75% white-haired at 44. I am now 50 and it's over 90% white. I have dark skin so it's quite a contrast. I don't mind it though. It's genetic and most of my family members are the same. I feel a connection with them.

I was 20, and it's genetic in my family to go grey early. I did use to dye it mid brown, but in my mid 40s I thought I'd grow it out to see what it was like. I am very white across the top, and also around the base of the skull, but the centre bit is still a dark grey.

I now bleach it white blonde as I like it that way, whereas the mid brown previously was just to hide the white.

40 and none so far.

My mother didn’t start to go grey until she was into her 60s. Even now at 70 she’s only salt and pepper.

In my early 40s but a friend's mother had to start dyeing her hair at 7!

I’m 52 and have had a couple round my forehead for a couple of years but nothing more. I’m a red head (although it’s got more chestnut brown as I’ve got older) - I think red heads go grey much later.

I'm so glad I'm not on my own!!! 😂 😂

27 - I was four months pregnant with my first child. I blame him!!

  1. Started in lockdown !

  1. Last year. Only a tiny few round my temples - and one random white eyebrow hair Hmm
Saracen · 17/08/2020 05:35
  1. But they came very very slowly and I wouldn't have been described by other people as "greying" until my early 40s.

I started with some grey eyebrow hairs and feared I was going to look very odd with white eyebrows and dark hair on my head! But the greying of the eyebrows then paused completely.

orangejuicer · 17/08/2020 05:38

Mid 20s. I've been dyeing hair since I was 15 anyway so never been an issue really.

Snog · 17/08/2020 08:32

I'm 52 and have had a few grey hairs since about 45 but not enough to be worth dyeing. Light brown hair.

cathyandclare · 18/08/2020 06:42

I was 17, but it's been a slowish progression. Started colouring at 30, but didn't need to colour regrow this for years. My hairdresser says I'm 50% grey now at 53.

42 (nearing 43) & none yet. Fingers crossed!
