When did you start getting grey hair?

I was having a conversation with a friend a few days ago, she started getting her first grey hairs in her early 20's and has been dying them for approx 10yrs now. I found my first few strands at my temples in January at the age of 35. I thought I was doing well to reach that age before getting my first greys, but my husband (who is 13yrs older BTW) thinks it's very young as he only has them in his stubble, he does have them in his hair but won't admit it!!! 😂 😂 So what does everyone else think??

38

wizzler · 16/08/2020 05:51

I'm 55 and no grey so far

hula008 · 16/08/2020 06:14

I got a few grey's at around 21 but now 27 and only a couple more have appeared. No need to dye yet but if they increase I may want to as they are all in the front.

Duckinghellfire · 16/08/2020 06:20

I was 21 when I spotted my first, im 43 now and its pretty grey but still very salt and pepper like, so i have to keep dying it. Great thing is now i have a daughter who does it for me

BitOfFun · 16/08/2020 06:24

I’m 47 and haven’t got any yet, but that’s just down to genetics.

JackPaul · 16/08/2020 06:26

Some people just haven't noticed it.
I got my first at 21. There are maybe 10 or 15 greys now in my 30s. Used to be 3 persistent ones in my 20s (that i could see anyway). It's the last thing 8'm insecure about. I think grey hair and young skin is a pretty contrast.

Mypathtriedtokillme · 16/08/2020 06:33

My sisters pointed it out with great glee.
They also had greys. Shitty genetics.

bluetongue · 16/08/2020 06:41

About 40 (I’m 44 now). They’re mostly around my temples but combined with my mousy brown hair and skin tone they are really ageing. I had them dyed at the hairdresser earlier in the year and about to go back and get it redone in the next couple of weeks. No going grey gracefully for me.

nevergoingoutagain · 16/08/2020 06:43

I'm 42. I have no grey hair.....yet!!

My sister is 44 she only has a few hit my bro is 38 and he has quite a bit round the sides. Both my parents were well into their 60s by the time they went fully grey.

Hoppymclimpy · 16/08/2020 07:06

I was 19, we grey early in our family! Dyed it until I was 39 then thought, nope, not doing this anymore. I now have 80% white in 'stripes' throughout my hair. I've been asked before where I get my colour done Grin
I do use a toning shampoo once a week and that's it it!

Paperplain · 16/08/2020 07:27

13 - the year my mum died. Now nearly 47 and 70% grey but still dye. I nearly hit the bullet over lockdown but copped out!!

JillGoodacre · 16/08/2020 07:29

I was about 18. My cousin (male)is 28 and is completely grey and has been since he was about 24. Our great grandad (maternal) went completely white at 26.

LioneIRichTea · 16/08/2020 07:44

Not really sure as I’ve been dying my hair all different colours since about 14. I’d say I probably noticed a lone grey in my roots at 30 or just before? I’m late 30s now and lockdown made it clear most of my hair would be grey now Shock It’s annoying at my Mum didn’t start going grey until recently

NewKittyMeow · 16/08/2020 07:48

I was mid-thirties when I found a couple of grays at my crown, but 8 years later I still only have three or four. My parents both went gray quite late though.

Flappingflamingo · 16/08/2020 09:18

I blame my son for mine, I found them a couple of days after he badly broke his leg!! 😂 😂
I've got darkish brown hair... My dad's was very dark, he's now in his early 60's and grey but can't remember when his started changing so must have been quite young, my mum on the other hand has light mousy brown hair which she has been bleaching for years. She's a couple yrs older than my dad but didn't get any noticable greys till her 50's.
Thanks dad 😔😭😂

35 and apparently that’s average. After dc3 they have started becoming more frequent though. I’m going to dye them for the first time soon.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 16/08/2020 10:16

My sil was comletelynwhite in her late 20s.

I'm 50%+ grey at 45 and having to let it grow through as I've developed a reaction to hair dye.

By comparison, dh is 47 and has zero white hairs but a few white eyelashes and eyebrow hairs.

Delilah21D00LoT · 16/08/2020 14:15

when I was 20, now mid 40's.

blitzen · 16/08/2020 14:24

I found my first one at 17! At 36 I am more white than my 70 year old mother. I am not ready to embrace it yet and have been dying it since it became more than a couple of stragglers. So probably for a decade now.

Proudboomer · 16/08/2020 14:37

I am mid 50’s and started to really notice my year about 5 years ago. Last year I decided to give up dyeing it and transition over to fully grey.
Unfortunately my hair won’t play ball so now I have the badger effect in that the front of my hair is grey but the back still it’s natural brown with very little grey.

When I married my husband 30 years ago he was in his early 30’s and his hair was white as he went from brown to grey to white in his late 20’s. I have two sons in their mid 20s so it will be interesting to see if they retain their dark hair.

Cellardoor23 · 16/08/2020 14:49

I’ve started getting a couple of strands now at 33. Not hugely noticeable. It’s not even grey though, it’s pure white

wherethewavesarehighest · 16/08/2020 14:51
  1. Now I'm 36 and have a fairly grey temple and still the odd ones along my parting. My parents were both grey in their forties and now completely white at 70ish.
BluebellForest836 · 16/08/2020 14:55

I’m 30 and haven’t noticed any yet...

My mum was 18 though

23 and not uncommon amongst my friends to have found a few by then. I don’t have many but I’m nurturing a potential Mallen streak. Don’t dye it either as my natural colour is nice and I don’t think the grey is a problem (may live to change my mind on that tho...).
