Hut tub dilemma

As did half the country we decided to get a hot tub during lockdown , its causing no end of problems with the neighours though

We have lived in the same new build home for a while , friends with the neighbours no problems whatsoever and generally get on well. Dont socialise together but always pleasant exchanges so no problems , we turn a blind eye to some antisocial behaviour on their part. mainly smoking weed in their garden that blows into ours because on the whole they are good people , no loud parties or noise from theirs ect

They seem however to have taken exception to our hot tub as they dont like what they call a loud humming sound that they can hear , we are at a loss what to do about this as we canny move the hottub anywhere else in the garden , we have a large decking for garden furniture /bbq and a home made bar that take up the other spaces in the garden , my husband has spent a considerable time putting electric cables in the garden so repositioning this would be out of the question, we are mindful not to put the jets on after 11pm (checked with local council and this is the time that noise wouldnt be acceptable after) we also spent a fair whack on a set up so we would not consider not using this
Any suggestions other than moving house ?
AiBU for wanting to enjoy my garden ?
Neighbour came.round fairly angry knocking on door

If it does make a constant humming noise, it would drive me demented. The sort of background noise that goes on and on is tortuous imo.

WhoEatsPopTarts · 27/06/2020 00:07

YABU I would hate to be your neighbour

Boopeedoop · 27/06/2020 00:08

Can you switch it off over night at least? They hold their heat well with the cover on.

Cuntycovid · 27/06/2020 00:09

@WhoEatsPopTarts why would you hate to be my neighbour ?

OP posts:
atimetobealive · 27/06/2020 00:09

That noise would drive me nuts.

Switch it off and stop being so self centred

aowjakdb · 27/06/2020 00:09

I can see why it would be annoying tbh.

Cuntycovid · 27/06/2020 00:10

@LakieLady that's the thing we cant hear it but apparently they can ?
DH thinks its jealousy as our house is much nicer than theirs but obviously I dont want to cause upset

Time2change2 · 27/06/2020 00:11

Do you hear the humming? Can you hear what he is talking about? Does it bother you?

Hopeisnotastrategy · 27/06/2020 00:11

You are being inconsiderate. Desist.

Cuntycovid · 27/06/2020 00:11

They loose heat being switched off although might consider switching it off at night although they are in the house at night and are saying its wen they are in their garden they can hear it so dont really know what that would achieve ?

OP posts:
Time2change2 · 27/06/2020 00:11

Cross posted. So you can’t hear it at all? Even if you are quiet and listening for it?

Mummyshark2018 · 27/06/2020 00:12

I have a hot tub and there is a noise but I can't hear it inside my kitchen or 3m away from it. I'd rather a humming noise to block out noiseyneighbour screeching which is what I usually hear.

SerendipitySunshine · 27/06/2020 00:12

It's an awful noise, I don't blame your neighbours.

Cuntycovid · 27/06/2020 00:13

@Time2change2
We honestly can't hear it at all , dont know what to do as it cost a fortune and we dont want to get rid of it but anything we can do to minimise neighbours stress we will do

OP posts:
Cuntycovid · 27/06/2020 00:14

Also they smoke weed that fucking stinks. we dont like that as non smokers but we just tolerate It and may I add this is 4/5 times per day we get a strong whiff lasting 5, mins or so

OP posts:
Raella50 · 27/06/2020 00:14

How loud is it?

bloated1977 · 27/06/2020 00:14

I hear the same humming from my neighbours hot tub and it drives me insane! YABU and I feel their pain.

Namechanged127865 · 27/06/2020 00:15

We have one too. I walked around the boundary of our garden (we are detached) after a similar thread on here to check if the neighbours could hear it. Didnt hear a thing until I was within 4-5m of it. It's nowhere near as loud as our neighbours boiler kicking in.

Could you build a little enclosure around the pump unit? Or use one of the plastic garden storage boxes with a few holes cut in it? Might muffle the sound a bit.

The bubbles are really loud though. We have them turned off for 9pm.

Newkitchen123 · 27/06/2020 00:15

We've got one
It's a low him
No way could next door hear that we can't hear it on other side of our garden

Newkitchen123 · 27/06/2020 00:15

Hum not him

Cuntycovid · 27/06/2020 00:15

@Time2change2
We can hear it if we sit right next to the tub but not at all apart from that and it's the jets that are loud which we dont use after 11pm as this is the time the council said noise is acceptable to
We are not in ir everynight probably 3/4 nights per week

ZombieFan · 27/06/2020 00:16

Download one of the many apps that measures sound levels. See if their really is a hum. If not tell neighbours where to go. If their is a noise go get your ears tested.

Raella50 · 27/06/2020 00:17

It sounds like normal noise from a neighbour. They will have to get over themselves.

Sceptre86 · 27/06/2020 00:17

New build estate gardens usually back onto several others so you are commonly overlooked. We have neighbours to the left of us that have a bloody hot tub and have had it on several nights this week. I find the constant hum annoying yet they probably find my kids screeching annoying too. It is just something that we have to live with. It rains where we are most of the time anyway so they won't get much chance to use it. Just one of life's annoyances. I wouldn't get angry over it as I don't begrudge them enjoying the warm weather.

Using yours up to 11pm is quite late though even if allowed. Lots of people are likely to be sleeping with windows ajar and it is frustrating getting kids to bed when all they can hear and complain about is a constant buzzing sound. I wouldn't use it so late as a courtesy to them in the week as a compromise and then weekends you could use it till later.

SavoyCabbage · 27/06/2020 00:17

It’s unlikely to be jealousy of a hot tub. They do make a noise all of the time and it is annoying.

My neighbours had one and they were good neighbours but I was thrilled when they moved because of the noise of the hot tub..
They moved because someone poured water into the electric sockets outside which blew the electricity in the house so the alarm didn’t go off and they were burgled.
