Hut tub dilemma

Cuntycovid · 26/06/2020 23:57

As did half the country we decided to get a hot tub during lockdown , its causing no end of problems with the neighours though

We have lived in the same new build home for a while , friends with the neighbours no problems whatsoever and generally get on well. Dont socialise together but always pleasant exchanges so no problems , we turn a blind eye to some antisocial behaviour on their part. mainly smoking weed in their garden that blows into ours because on the whole they are good people , no loud parties or noise from theirs ect

They seem however to have taken exception to our hot tub as they dont like what they call a loud humming sound that they can hear , we are at a loss what to do about this as we canny move the hottub anywhere else in the garden , we have a large decking for garden furniture /bbq and a home made bar that take up the other spaces in the garden , my husband has spent a considerable time putting electric cables in the garden so repositioning this would be out of the question, we are mindful not to put the jets on after 11pm (checked with local council and this is the time that noise wouldnt be acceptable after) we also spent a fair whack on a set up so we would not consider not using this
Any suggestions other than moving house ?
AiBU for wanting to enjoy my garden ?
Neighbour came.round fairly angry knocking on door

I wouldn’t mind hot tub hum over my bloody neighbours noises! The trampoline and bloody football! Constant THUD THUD everyday from morning till night even in winter, rain or shine he’s out there. I cannot sit in my garden as noise drives me crazy. Funny enough when I posted about it (under a different name) I was getting HORRENDOUS replies telling me I should just put up with it or move to an isolated place. Plus he was bashing my fence and damaging it but no I should put up with it! So why now are ppl telling OP she’s wrong?

Starksforthewin · 27/06/2020 04:56

Ah, the retort of noisy, inconsiderate neighbours everywhere.

If you dare to call them out on their selfish conduct, you must be ‘miserable’ and not living your best life in a bubbling Petrie dish with Pina Colada in hand...

No, OP, you don’t sound like the cast of Shameless, AT ALL. 😀

And now the neighbours are jealous, not only of the superbly appointed garden, but also of the chavviest car in the history of the universe! This thread just keeps giving..

I honestly don’t know why you started the thread and asked the question, OP. Has the scale of the anti response taken you by surprise, such that you are personally rude to posters who disagree with you?

Pinkypie86 · 27/06/2020 05:49

I knew reading this thread would give me a giggle.

Anyway, you're both being unreasonable - Them for smoking weed and you for well, biting back at most of the comments.
It's your Hot Tub - if the noise really is such a problem for them you will have to turn it off at some point.
Don't let this issue be a back and forth of wrong doings between neighbours!
We can all be inconsiderate at times - my children have a swimming pool for the summer, we like to sit outside having a bbq, chatting too loudly, playing a little music. It's for a few months of the year isn't it? Our next door neighbour smokes like a trooper ( cigarettes ), bangs their front door far too loudly and, has an annoying habit of making our driveway light turn on every bleeding time.

We don't complain. We just get on with it.
Note the complaint from them - don't get shirty. Its never a good look.

BluebellForest836 · 27/06/2020 05:56

Just ignore your neighbor op.

I’d tell them to fuck off when you have to smell weed all the time which I think is far worse.

They will just have to put up with it.

BullshitVivienne · 27/06/2020 05:56

Do people know that hot tubs have chlorine etc in them? No idea why people assume they're dirty.

However, OP I think you're on a wind up here.

CazzaCat · 27/06/2020 06:04

@Cuntycovid

 1. Personally I think 11pm is very late even if the council advise that’s ok. Lots of people want to go to bed at 10/10.30pm
 1. 3/4 nights is half the week so that’s a lot.
Ughmaybenot · 27/06/2020 06:06

‘husbands new Range Rover evoque’ 😂 Just ‘husbands new car’ would’ve done OP, his terrible taste might have remained a secret then!
Tbh with regards to the hot tub, the inflatable ones are a bit loud and annoying, but being neighbourly involved a fair bit of live and let live imo. Weed stinks and is antisocial as well imo.
I’d just be mindful to not use the jets after 8:30/9 (11pm is taking the piss) and maybe try to get some housing of some kind for the pump to dull the noise

Northernsoullover · 27/06/2020 06:06

Barking dogs can be considered a statutory nuisance and therefore can be reported to the Environmental Health department. It shouldn't be left 'between neighbours' if they don't shut the fucking thing up.

hula008 · 27/06/2020 06:25

A hot tub and a new range rover evoque. I'm sure they must be incredibly jealous 😂

Silvercatowner · 27/06/2020 06:38

A hot tub and a new range rover evoque. I'm sure they must be incredibly jealous

Snort - livin' the life, OP!

Our neighbours have one. I can just about tolerate the noise but HATE the wafts of chlorine around my garden.

Dashel · 27/06/2020 06:39

I so glad my nearest neighbour is over a mile away. I have always thought the only way I would have an outside bath is if I had the privacy to go in there naked. Thankfully this is now the case but there is something just a bit tacky about them.

I think as others have said you need to see if you can put a cover over the pump even a home made open sided one. Googling lazy spa pump cover did bring up a sound enclosure assembly option and as another poster said the sound may be worse from vibrating the decking as well.

lilgreen · 27/06/2020 06:45

Stop after 9pm. Build something around the pump. The weed thing is worse in my opinion. I’d have to move!

PrincessPain · 27/06/2020 06:46
@Sceptre86
Thanks for your comments I agree 11pm is late and we definitely wouldnt use it until this time in the week due to ours jobs as we both get up early x
I like how you won't use it late because you are getting up early the next day, but you do know not everyone works Monday to Friday.
Some people work shifts, nights, early mornings.
Your responses seem to be quite nasty so other than us basically saying your neighbours are arseholes (they are for the weed, not for being peeved about the hot tub being right against their fence and having the jets on late 4 nights a week) you've just come on to humble brag about your nice new build, your range rover, your hot tub and how jealous everyone is of you 🤨
11pm is too late.

MagnoliaJustice · 27/06/2020 06:52

Why did you place your Lazy-Spa up against the neighbour's fence, when you say you are the end house? You should have placed it against the face that doesn't have neighbours on the other side.
Why have outside electrics? An extension lead from the house would have worked just as well. It's only a blow up pool, not difficult to move to another spot in the garden.
Why keep it on day and night? Shocking waste of money. You should have waited until you could afford a rigid one that holds heat for days, isn't noisy, and lasts longer than a couple of years.

JacobReesMogadishu · 27/06/2020 07:02

Maybe you’d be better off saving your money for a non terraced house Rather than buying range rovers and hot tubs. Then you’d have more space between you and your neighbours and could do what you want.

If I was House hunting and saw a neighbour had a hot tub I wouldn’t buy the house. It’s top of my list for things which would put me off a place.

Westiegirl3 · 27/06/2020 07:10

I imagine you've got an inflatable version of a hot tub..? We've got a hard cased version, the electric is in the shed with the cables run under the slabs, there's absolute zero noise unless the jets are running.. I couldn't deal with a humming from my own never mind a neighbours. I'd consider getting rid of it to be honest, it would drive my crazy to listen to it all day whilst I was trying to relax

Quietheart · 27/06/2020 07:12

This has made me laugh so much... neighbours being jealous because your house is better than theirs, jealous of your new range rover parked in a bay.

A bay? Do you not have a drive on your new build to park the new range rover and your own car if you have one.

Seriously who thinks its a good idea to put their hot tub right up against their neighbours fence? Is your garden actually big enough to accommodate a bar, a patio area, a hot tub, a slide a swing, play tunnels and a bike? If you live on the end house surely a bit of planning would have meant the hot tub went on the outside fence.

I'm trying to recall whether there ever was a scene in Shameless with Frank smoking weed while the neighbour gave her DH a BJ in the hot tub (without washing his dick)

speakout · 27/06/2020 07:14

I am jealous- a hot tub and a home made bar in your garden.

Party central.

lilgreen · 27/06/2020 07:15

This is like something from Two Doors Down. The showy woman played by Doon.

SinglePringle · 27/06/2020 07:17

This thread Grin

An (inflatable) hot tub
A Range Evoque
A ‘hubby’
An outdoor bar
A set of jealous (weed smoking) neighbours
A delightful description of fellatio in retaliation to a criticism

I reckon someone’s on the wind up!

nogreenfinger · 27/06/2020 07:20

A neighbour has an inflatable one, only hear an occasional hum on the day they decide to use it. Doesn't bother me at all.

PrincessConsuelaVaginaHammock · 27/06/2020 07:22

Their weed smells come into your garden and they think they're in any position to complain about hot tubs?!

nogreenfinger · 27/06/2020 07:28

Part & parcel of living close to others is hearing some of their noise, that's life.

This

Lovewinemorethanhusband · 27/06/2020 07:32

I have a hot tub and honestly cant hear it at all, my neighbours also have one, they have teenagers who use it late at night with bubbles and that on but even with the windows open i cant hear it enough to be annoying, i can hear the neighbours across the road fighting at all hours and the stench off weed that comes from their house also when they sit in the garden and smoke it!!
I'd knock on there door every time you smell weed and ask them not to as I'm sure that would annoying them just as much and your tub apparently annoys them

JorisBonson · 27/06/2020 07:34

My Stanley has a car straight out of towie and a souped up paddling pool!
