Hut tub dilemma

As did half the country we decided to get a hot tub during lockdown , its causing no end of problems with the neighours though

We have lived in the same new build home for a while , friends with the neighbours no problems whatsoever and generally get on well. Dont socialise together but always pleasant exchanges so no problems , we turn a blind eye to some antisocial behaviour on their part. mainly smoking weed in their garden that blows into ours because on the whole they are good people , no loud parties or noise from theirs ect

They seem however to have taken exception to our hot tub as they dont like what they call a loud humming sound that they can hear , we are at a loss what to do about this as we canny move the hottub anywhere else in the garden , we have a large decking for garden furniture /bbq and a home made bar that take up the other spaces in the garden , my husband has spent a considerable time putting electric cables in the garden so repositioning this would be out of the question, we are mindful not to put the jets on after 11pm (checked with local council and this is the time that noise wouldnt be acceptable after) we also spent a fair whack on a set up so we would not consider not using this
Any suggestions other than moving house ?
AiBU for wanting to enjoy my garden ?
Neighbour came.round fairly angry knocking on door

You should at least be bearing the burden of the problems you yourself cause. Preferably by not causing them in the first place, but the second option is changing your ways once you are aware, and cleaning up the mess you made - that's a very basic level of taking responsibility for your mistakes.

My point is that by living the way you choose to do (which includes but is not limited to buying/using a hot tub), you are a) trashing the planet (which affects people in other countries more than yourself, though we will suffer here too) and b) depriving other people of their fair share of resources, including water, clean air, food, a safe home, never mind anything more complicated (like the consumer goods you buy without a second thought for the conflict minerals in them and what environmental impact that mining caused).

Calculate your carbon footprint (a decent calculator, not a basic one, that will be more accurate) and see just how unfair you are being. Westerners already colonised and exploited most of the rest of the world, and you are still benefiting from that, partly in the form of these unnecessary things you are buying.

If the damage your lifestyle caused showed up in your own home/garden instead of someone else's, you'd stop doing it pretty damn fast. Why should others have to bear the burden of your thoughtless damage instead?

infections. sorry. I blame relatives who came round for booze but didn' t get into my sex pond. As I don't have one, thinking that they are one of the grubbiest ideas in modern times,

Dougalthesyrianhamster · 27/06/2020 01:28

I do not understand the obsession with bacteria & sweat bubbling up around you, eugh!

Sorry to be crude here, but imagine if your DH failed to wipe his bum properly one day before hopping in the body soup? 🤢🤢

Foot sweat & toenails 🥴

If the pump/mechanics is separate from the spa itself, you can build a sound baffle using acoustic panels. It' sort of like a 3 sided upside down box. You put the open side away from the neighbours.

We saw someone using one on a loud generator when we were camping. It didn't completely deaden the noise but it did help quite a bit. I'd assume your heater/pump is much less noisy than a generator.

Neighbours two doors down have one and it’s pretty noisy when in use. They’re considerate and don’t leave it running all the time. During lockdown they normally quit by early evening. When it’s on I either stick on headphones to dull the hum or go inside. Pretty big gardens but evenso the noise still travels. Relieved not to be living next door to the flubbelingly noisy thing. Sex pond is my new fave word btw, MrsEric.

It doesn't matter about day time noise unfortunately unless you have enough evidence to impose an antisocial behaviour order against a neighbour. As did I with a neighbour who played music like he lived in a club at all hours. And too address those that are commenting on the weed. Unfortunately soon it will be medicinally legal and most people will choose to smoke it outside you'll unfortunately just have to get over it.

Cuntycovid · 27/06/2020 01:36

@Dougalthesyrianhamster so do you not go swimming at public swimming baths? Use public toilets? Touch handrails in public?
Much more worrying for me is than sharing water space with a man , my husband who i am sexually intimate with? Do you never share a bath with your partner ?

@annon0998
I'm not that fussed about the weed hence not bringing it up with them , I'm only mentioning it as if they are gonna take issue with us we should bring that up with them

I've noticed that people always put the noisiest things as far away from their own house as possible. Trampolines and hot tubs right against the fence. Put them beside your living room window if you want them.

RainbowMum11 · 27/06/2020 01:40

That was my point though - I have spoken to the neighbours about the noise though and they have all been very understanding, as am I of the noises they make in their gardens.
Because they are our gardens and although we are mindful of each other, we need to be able to use them for our own benefits - what is the point of having a garden otherwise?

giggly · 27/06/2020 01:43

However loud your hot tub makes it cannot be any worse than the cunty dog next door which barks morning noon and fucking night.

Cuntycovid · 27/06/2020 01:45

@theightheighoftheigh
It's at the bottom of the garden so as far away as possible from their house and ours

@giggly there is nothing worse than a barking dog drives you mad doesn't it

Oooh we are detached!
Sing along in the style of W
e're having a gang bang In Rita Sue and Bob Too style...
We're having a chav bath
We're having a ball
We're our drinking cider
Over next doors wall
There's plenty of bubbles
But none of them small
Coz when Josh gets in the smell begins and soap don't matter at all!!

@cuntycovid barking dogs are a civil matter so left between neighbours.

Itwasntme1 · 27/06/2020 01:53

I am sorry but I had to laugh at the neighbours being jealous of your inflatable hot tub😂.

Cuntycovid · 27/06/2020 02:02

@itwasntme1
It's not the hot tub they are jealous of its us in general from previous comments we feel , they have made several comments about my husband new range rover evoque also taking up too much space in the designated bays , he parks in our bay how can it take much space it doesn't go in their bay

ActuallyItsEugene · 27/06/2020 02:19

What a worried life you lead. Imagine if your DH failed to clean his bellend properly before you sucked on it ?
How crass.

FWIW, I've had a built in hot tub (which was soon ripped out, it was an eyesore) and it made a low hum every now and then. The jets weren't even too bad.
My neighbours have one of those bloody LayZ spas and it's incredibly noisy. The jets sound as though the thing's preparing to take off and the constant hum drives me crazy; I don't know which model it is though.

I'd download one of those noise apps to your phone and monitor the volume of your tub before branding your neighbours as jealous. Constant low-level noise pollution is incredibly irritating.

I agree that I'd have mentioned the weed before now though, the smell of that seeping through your walls is unacceptable.

snitzelvoncrumb · 27/06/2020 02:25

I would go and talk to them and come up with a compromise, perhaps turn it off at 8, or earlier if possible. But it would be on the condition that they stopped smoking weed in their yard. Let them know it bothers you. If they don't stop then I don't think you should.

FiveShelties · 27/06/2020 03:34

my husband new range rover evoque - you waited a while to slip that 'fact' in! Grin

Ernieshere · 27/06/2020 03:46

"They're sex people Lyn"

Sorry, Alan flashed in my mind.

Moonshinemisses · 27/06/2020 03:49

Is it sitting on decking?, my neighbour's have one on the decking and they put a thick mat/padding under it. I couldn't hear it before that unless I was in it but they were worried about the noise from the jets. If you are lucky enough to have the space & budget for one then go ahead &,enjoy it. Part & parcel of living close to others is hearing some of their noise, that's life.
