Just retiled the kitchen and have this old capped off gas pipe that we can't remove and would love some ideas on what to use to hide it. It measures about 5cm x 5cm.

How high is it? Can you put a shelf under it?

BillywigSting · 25/06/2020 17:25

Shower radio?

Nonononon · 25/06/2020 17:28

How disappointing..

Nonononon · 25/06/2020 17:29

Anyway. Do what I do with almost anything. Poly filler it, sand down till smooth then paint it.

hellsbellsmelons · 25/06/2020 17:30

Could you put a picture or a hanging plaque type thing up there?
It really would depend how high it is and in what part of the kitchen.

RedLemon · 25/06/2020 17:30

I came on to say all knobs are unsightly, but I see now that yours is particularly so.

Could you hang a spice rack or similar over it?

IDontDrinkTea · 25/06/2020 17:31

This is not the type of knob pic I was expecting Grin

youwereagoodcakeclyde · 25/06/2020 17:32

Ace title
Your knob looks smaller than the dimensions you are quoting
Is there a work surface underneath it?

FatPantsOn · 25/06/2020 17:35

Unsolicited knob pics on MN now? Is there nowhere on the internet safe?

It's a GAS FITTING You can't sand that down you loon.

I'll excuse your idiocy due to the heat 🤣

FatPantsOn · 25/06/2020 17:36

You need a larger pic to get an idea of the space to say how it can best be hidden.

Nonononon · 25/06/2020 17:38

Yeah but sand the poly filler not the pipe? Grin

ThankyouPeter · 25/06/2020 17:38

A chalk board depending on how high it is?

My own loony suggestion is to paint it red & make it a feature! You could put a sign under it

'Press in case of emergency'

'Be gentle with my knob'

Namechange2020onceagain · 25/06/2020 17:38

Sorry for the disappointing unsolicited knob pics. Grin I will take another pic with a wider angle. Gis a minute

Don't know where it is in the kitchen, but could you put a hook below it (or a few hooks) and stick a decoration along the top of the hook which would cover it? I'm thinking along the lines of 5 minute crafts and glue some fake gerberas with a glue gun.

piccalilliLily · 25/06/2020 17:40

If I found such an unsightly knob in my kitchen I'd ring the police first, then my solicitor.
Having said that, I once had an unsightly knob in my front room next to the fireplace. I made a hole in the bottom of a wicker basket and placed it over, then put a pot plant into the basket.
So my suggestion is pot plants some sort.

Lindy2 · 25/06/2020 17:40

Depending on where it is

  • tea towel hanging over the top of it.
  • picture on top of it.
  • shelf just above it.
  • cabinet in front of it.
PigletJohn · 25/06/2020 17:40

Don't conceal it or try to fill it. Paint it "yellow ochre" gloss.

Like an exposed electric point, it is a visible warning that you should not hammer nails or drill holes into the service buried in the plaster.

if you are sure you will never want a gas cooker or boiler in that position, you can pay a gasman to disconnect the feed to that point (it is probably under the floor) and preferably remove the redundant pipes to save future concerns.

my kitchen has a gas point and an electric point on each side of the room, in case I get the whim to change the layout and move the cooker. That's quite good planning, I think.

whereorwhere · 25/06/2020 17:43

Oh dear not what I was expecting 😂

Namechange2020onceagain · 25/06/2020 17:44

Here ya go. The knob is above the plug sockets.

Kitchen roll holder?

LeahDownTheLane · 25/06/2020 17:46

Why wasn’t it removed before tiling?
