Just retiled the kitchen and have this old capped off gas pipe that we can't remove and would love some ideas on what to use to hide it. It measures about 5cm x 5cm.

Shelf above, with a plant hanging down over it. Maybe a fig plant would be appropriate to cover the knob, a weeping fig, is there such a thing?

madcatladyforever · 25/06/2020 18:19

i have various unsightly kn obs and dents in the wall I just put a picture hook above them and then hang some kind of small decoration over it, I have a lovely little moongazing hare that would look very nice there. Bunch of dried flowers or herbs would look nice so that the end is still well above the plugs.
OR, just get a workman to come and remove it and make good the hole.

LillianBland · 25/06/2020 18:20

I voted that you’re unreasonable, because we shouldn’t judge a knob on its size. 😁

Oldraver · 25/06/2020 18:20

Nah, if the socket was under the counter you have an isolation switch in place of the above counter socket

cabinfever2 · 25/06/2020 18:21

Totally made me laugh a lot!! Firstly came in to look at the nob and secondly because I wasn't alone 😂😂😂😬

Namechange2020onceagain · 25/06/2020 18:26

@cabinfever2 I'm glad my knob amuses you. Grin

How about these

Put a shelf slightly above it?

Namechange2020onceagain · 25/06/2020 18:31

@Chickychickydodah That is just a knob extension.

I thought of that too but the adhesive part wouldn't adhere.

A tall vase with big faux flowers?

Or kitchen roll holder strategically attached to the wall so that it covers it?

LillianBland · 25/06/2020 18:33

This would be an appropriate plant to hide it behind. The Latin name is Gymnocarpus physocarpa, but it is more commonly known as Family Jewels or Hairy Balls. However, it would mean that your balls would be bigger than your knob.

Thank you everyone. I think I am going to go with an air plant (string of pearls) and a hanging basket to put it in. Now I just need to find a small bracket.

Blimey those plugs are near the sink aren’t they.

Namechange2020onceagain · 25/06/2020 18:36

@LillianBland Good suggestion but I can't have unsanitary hairy balls in the kitchen as well as an unsightly knob.

It would certainly be a fun talking point, if you have uptight relatives. Can you imagine their reactions, when they mention the plant and you, with a totally straight face, explain that you’ve placed your hairy balls on a shelf to hide your knob? 😁

Dodie66 · 25/06/2020 18:39

Another one saying kitchen roll holder

draughtycatflap · 25/06/2020 18:40

You could always put a picture of a penis over it.

Ideally you should have knocked some of the plaster off before retiling and decorating and had it capped behind the wall and the wall filled, but.... all i can think of is a stick on air freshener

monkeyonthetable · 25/06/2020 18:46

make a feature of it by turning it into an animal face - maybe a polar bear? I've seen some brilliant examples online but can't work out how to Google them, like the fire hydrant animals but in miniature. DC will love it.

midlifecrash · 25/06/2020 18:49

small gargoyle?

Dragonembroidery · 25/06/2020 18:55

I read that as how to hide my unsightly knob pic. Pic attached.

Twospaniels · 25/06/2020 18:58

What about glueing a lid / bottle top over it and then painting it the same colour as the tiles?

Em308 · 25/06/2020 19:05

Looking at the picture again, do you have a wire going through the tiles?
