A greedy bastard breakfast

SquishyBones · 09/06/2020 20:34

I was speaking to an old friend this morning who laughed and asked if I still had greedy bastard breakfasts. I asked what he was on about and he started going on about what I used to eat really laughing and banging on and exagurating saying I used to eat a couple of boxes of cereal and 2 loaves of bread etc.

What I actually had was a bowl of cereal, toast, a yogurt and a banana. This is what he called a greedy bastard breakfast. I feel like he’s been taking the piss out of me for years for this but never had the balls to bring it up with me.

What's your AIBU?

rottiemum88 · 09/06/2020 20:37

For what it's worth, I agree with him that's quite a lot for one person to have for breakfast, but it's unkind to make fun of someone

PuntasticUsername · 09/06/2020 20:38

I believe he may be thinking of Mr Greedy.

Croprotationinthe14thcentury · 09/06/2020 20:40

That's unkind......however that's a rather large breakfast to have. Unless you just have a snack lunch then I'd try and cut back. Save the yougurt and fruit and have as part of your lunch

Chiyo666 · 09/06/2020 20:40

That is a bit of a greedy bastard breakfast though Grin

Puddlejuice · 09/06/2020 20:40

It's all relative, some people wake up ravenous and really enjoy a large breakfast. Others can't stomach food for an hour or so then just pick at a piece of toast or something.
I fall into the second camp, DB who has a very physical job would eat your breakfast to set him up until lunch.

GrumpyHoonMain · 09/06/2020 20:40

I would have told him to shut the fuck up.

Michaelbaubles · 09/06/2020 20:41

It’s what she used to have...and who gives a shit? It’s all perfectly decent food. No need to start with the “I have half a seed and I’m stuffed!” malarkey.

AllNewThings · 09/06/2020 20:41

It is quite a big breakfast, but it's also very rude of him to comment on it.

vanillandhoney · 09/06/2020 20:42

Well, to me that's huge! I'd only have one out of those four options, though if I had the yoghurt I would add berries.

Dutchesss · 09/06/2020 20:43

How can anyone say that's a large breakfast without knowing the portion size?

vanillandhoney · 09/06/2020 20:43

It’s what she used to have...and who gives a shit? It’s all perfectly decent food. No need to start with the “I have half a seed and I’m stuffed!” malarkey.

Nobody has said it wasn't decent food - they're still allowed an a opinion whether you think it's malarkey or not!

BrieAndChilli · 09/06/2020 20:43

My 9 year old would have a bowl of weetabix with a banana or other fruit sliced up and toast/bagel For breakfast. He’s skinny. So I don’t think your breakfast is that big.

zscaler · 09/06/2020 20:44

As if any of you can determine whether that’s a big breakfast. I know pious undereating is a competitive sport on mumsnet but you don’t know OP’s calorie needs or activity levels, or whether they have a more substantial breakfast because they never snack or have small lunches, or because they are hungriest in the mornings. Wind in your necks when you don’t know what you’re talking about.

OP - your friend was being bloody rude. That says something about them, not you! Try to put it from your mind, it’s their own neuroses to deal with.

Dutchesss · 09/06/2020 20:44

that's a rather large breakfast to have. Unless you just have a snack lunch then I'd try and cut back. Save the yougurt and fruit and have as part of your lunch
For all you know the OP could be underweight and you are advising to eat less. Confused

GreenGordon · 09/06/2020 20:45

Well he’s lovely. Greedy bastard is a judgemental and rude description. Whether or not you ate more than you needed cannot be decided by anyone but you. And even if you are massively obese, it is still uncalled for, unnecessary and counterproductive of him to laugh and call you names. He is not, and probably never was a friend OP.

zscaler · 09/06/2020 20:45

@Dutchesss exactly! People are so bloody irresponsible.

gamerchick · 09/06/2020 20:45

It is not huge. We're 'supposed' to break the fast with the largest meal of the day. Its the last meal we're supposed to eat lightly. Its this eating our main meal at 9pm that's bloody weird.

He's a cock OP..don't give him any more brainwaves.

IagoWithABlackberry · 09/06/2020 20:46

It's quite a bit if you're having it everyday. If it's an occasional thing then I wouldn't say that it was at all out of the ordinary. I don't usually have lots for breakfast but sometimes on a weekend I'll feel like it and then I can put your "greedy bastard breakfast" to shame.

Sceptre86 · 09/06/2020 20:46

It is a big breakfast but there is a very big difference between one piece of toast and a whole loaf. I think most people would have either toast or cereal not usually both. He is being unreasonable for going on about it and you should tell him to back off if it annoys you.

LimpidPools · 09/06/2020 20:47

Why though should she cut back though, Croprotationinthe14thcentury? What difference does it make whether she eats a yoghurt and a banana at 8 am or at 1 pm?

You know nothing about the OP or her daily routine. Maybe she doesn't eat again till the evening. Or maybe she does. Maybe she has a hot lunch at 11.30. Whatever, I'm sure she's just doing what suits her and her body. It's no more your place to pass judgement than it is her friend's.

Women are allowed to eat.

Also, no, that's not a greedy bastard breakfast. It's a set you up for the day breakfast, I suppose, but it's not even fried.

Wouldyoudoit2 · 09/06/2020 20:48

Breakfast like a King
Lunch like a Queen
Dinner like a Pauper

Sexykitten2005 · 09/06/2020 20:48

That’s a perfectly normal breakfast for some and as you can clearly see from some responses a weeks worth of food for others Hmm
Some days I would eat more than you do and some days less depending on my activity levels and plans for the day.
Only real conclusion you can draw from your conversation is your friend is a rude bastard

ScarfLadysBag · 09/06/2020 20:49

Why is it any of his business anyway?

Also that's not a greedy bastard breakfast. I have one of those at weekends and it's a massive fry-up Grin Not some toast, cereal and fruit.

And Hmm to anyone giving OP unasked for advice on nutrition on MN, a hive of weirdly dysfunctional and competitive underrating and faux horror at anyone having a good fucking helping of food.

Enjoy your breakfasts, OP!

iklboo · 09/06/2020 20:50

That's a huge breakfast! I just have a sniff of a sparrow's arse and one cornflake which does me until 10pm when I eat two amoeba washed down with a unicorn tear.

Honestly the competitive food police on MN. The OP hasn't said what the portions were, over what time period and when she next ate. It's not a Greedy Bastard Breakfast. It's not like she scarfed down a massive Full English with toast, fried bread & hash browns.
