My DH has bought extra loo roll as he thinks a second wave

He's just got back from Aldi and says no one was at the door monitoring how many people were going in and 'it was like lockdown was completely over'. So he decided to get a few extra loo rolls as he's certain a second wave is inevitable a lot sooner than everyone thinks.

So is he a) Completely crackers = YABU

or b) Sensible = YANBU

A)

Freddiefox · 07/06/2020 14:55

Sensible, but when the 2nd waves comes I don’t think we will lock down

ScarfLadysBag · 07/06/2020 14:56

A.

I don't recall anyone having to wipe their arse with their hands.

Roselilly36 · 07/06/2020 14:58

No all this again.

SmiteTheeWithThunderbolts · 07/06/2020 15:00

(b) sensible

I bought some toilet roll this week too!

Selfsettling3 · 07/06/2020 15:00

There will be a second wave. I don’t think people will start panic buying this time and I doubt the gov will lock down again.

IFancyANamechange · 07/06/2020 15:01

Bizarre.

iVampire · 07/06/2020 15:01

Sensible. If you’re going to keep an extra pack in the house (rather than waiting until you’re nearly run out) better to get it on a random shopping day than wait and buy extra when everyone else is buying more

daytripper28 · 07/06/2020 15:01

All what again? The loo rolls or the second wave?

Hehe or 'coronavirus ' in general? Believe me I'm well sick of all of it too.

Plus we never stockpiled toilet roll the first time round. When I say he got a bit more, I mean a 9 pack instead of a 4 pack.

IndecentFeminist · 07/06/2020 15:03

There may be a second wave, we won't lock down or have the same supermarket issues though.

Tellmetruth4 · 07/06/2020 15:06

He doesn’t need it for the seconds wave if it happens before 31 December as we’re still getting tariff free imports from mainland Europe. Once transition is over snd we crash out of the EU, the lorries will be held up, that’s when he’ll need good stocks of everything.

slashlover · 07/06/2020 15:06

Depends what you mean by a few - he bought 6x24 packs YANBU, he bought an extra pack then YABU.

I normally buy a 12 pack and bought a 24 pack in my ASDA delivery today instead.

recycledteenager24 · 07/06/2020 15:12

how i read it was op said it was a 9pack instead of the ususal 4 loo rolls, hardly bulk buying is it ? Confused happy to be told i'm wrong op Smile

AgeLikeWine · 07/06/2020 15:14

I think a second wave is inevitable, and I also think panic buying is stupid.

slashlover · 07/06/2020 15:17

He bought 9 instead of 4? How many do you use in a week?

TBH, with the past few months, from now on I'm always going to have a bit extra in the house - tins, pasta, rice etc.

YouReallyAre · 07/06/2020 15:18

Panic buying is stupid and what causes the supply chain issues.

Buying an extra few toilet rolls in a pack or couple of extra tins of food each time you go shopping is useful. It means that the shops can keep up with demand. If we don't lockdown again/aren't affected by Brexit, you will still be able to use them up gradually as they aren't perishable items.

CurlsandCurves · 07/06/2020 15:18

I’m not panic buying, but I have done a bit of prep. In as much as I’ve got a pack of loo roll, couple of bags of pasta, few tins of tomatoes and a couple of bottles of wine all in a box in the garage just in case. My freezer is well stocked anyway.

Merigoround · 07/06/2020 15:19

Well I bought 4 packs of 18 rolls last week.
Thats only because Farmfoods were doing them for £10 though and we go through them like wild fire .
I dont normally hoard stuff since we have little space for storage but I coudnt resist a bargain.

Eckhart · 07/06/2020 15:21

We won't know until we hindsight. We may have a second wave, and if so, it'll affect us in some, as yet, unspecified ways. I wish people would stop saying people who don't make the same guess as them are stupid etc.

He's bought a larger than normal pack of toilet roll while he was out buying toilet roll anyway. And it warrants a thread on a forum. Really.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 07/06/2020 15:22

I think he's sensible, although I buy the packs of 24 from Ocado so only buying 4 or 9 seems worrying to me! It's the one thing I always make sure I've got plenty of!

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 07/06/2020 15:25

I voted YABU for the thought of stockpiling toilet paper, but recent behaviour by a minority may lead to an increase in cases.

Berthatydfil · 07/06/2020 15:26

I think a second wave is inevitable. It will be more manageable because we are now in the summer (ish) and the virus will be harder to transmit due to warmer drier weather and ongoing social distancing, and the nhs is over the seasonal winter illnesses so will be better able to cope. I think the big problem will be if we have a third wave in late Autumn.

TheoriginalLEM · 07/06/2020 15:26

The only fucking reason we ran out of bog roll the last time was because people panic bought them all. It was ridiculous then and is ridiculous now. PLEASE don't be selfish again.

Dogsaresomucheasier · 07/06/2020 15:28

I’ve been trying to maintain stocks so that we could isolate for two weeks if needed. I think that level is sensible. Enough for a six week polar expedition would be bonkers.

dooble · 07/06/2020 15:28

I don't believe there will be a blanket 2nd wave, potentially localised ones but that's it.
