My DH has bought extra loo roll as he thinks a second wave

He's just got back from Aldi and says no one was at the door monitoring how many people were going in and 'it was like lockdown was completely over'. So he decided to get a few extra loo rolls as he's certain a second wave is inevitable a lot sooner than everyone thinks.

So is he a) Completely crackers = YABU

or b) Sensible = YANBU

Last couple of shops we have doubled up on a few things, it’s just inevitable at this point and I got so sick with it last time. We will be staying in as much as possible, only out for work and shopping, to let the second wave pass us by.

SunshineCake · 07/06/2020 15:54

I despair.

People aren't buying extra loo roll because the virus gives you diarrhoea. It is so you don't have to make an unnecessary trip out..

swaywithme · 07/06/2020 15:56

I'm inclined to say A but then I laughed in DP's face when he suggested we go and stock up on extra loo roll and formula before this all kicked off have never heard the end of it.

KillerofMen · 07/06/2020 15:57

A 9 pack is a standard toilet roll purchase, they're almost always the best value. That's not stockpiling.

amijustparanoidorjuststoned · 07/06/2020 15:59

He is crackers and he is part of the problems that were caused last time. YABU. Well, HIBU.

My NHS friends are predicting a second wave for October.

I prep (a little) and have a Brexit store cupboard and an extra chest freezer in the garage which I keep well stocked with non perishables - it came in handy for lockdown. I buy one or two more than I need of everything most weeks. It's of no consequence to anyone else. I'd say your dh is sensible, but he might want to consider items other than toilet roll

LimitIsUp · 07/06/2020 16:04

the store cupboard is for non perishables - obviously the freezer has perishables

Fuckityfucksake · 07/06/2020 16:06

I've just said to dh this morning. To keep an eye on things running low that we found hard to get when lock down happened.
It's only a matter of time before the shelves will be emptied again urgh!

PhilCornwall1 · 07/06/2020 16:07

Oh FFS, here we go. So what's after the 2nd wave, the 3rd, 4th, 5th?

Aren't people getting bored banging on about all this? At this rate the country is going to be even more royally fucked than it is already.

megletthesecond · 07/06/2020 16:09

Why would you not stock up?
2/3 weeks of essentials in the house now if you can afford it and fit them in is sensible and not panic buying.

LannieDuck · 07/06/2020 16:11

YANBU. There's going to be a second wave.

I don't know if there'll be a run on the shops again or not, but I'm putting aside a few spares of key items in case there is (and if not needed for wave 2, we'll keep them in case of difficulties during brexit).

Zilla1 · 07/06/2020 16:12

Seeing a spike in infections in the community already even before most local schools have reopened to more than key workers. Hope this is local statistical noise rather than a widespread effect.

VeryQuaintIrene · 07/06/2020 16:14

If you have the space for it, what's the problem? And 5 rolls extra hardly seems excessive. I thought you were going to say he'd had a pallet of the stuff delivered or something.

LaceCurtains · 07/06/2020 16:15

A) I don't know if a second wave will come or not but I'll never be on a position where we couldn't manage without going out for a few weeks again.

Tana433 · 07/06/2020 16:18

You are not going to be able to eat toilet roll. Food is what you should be making sure you have plenty of

Tana433 · 07/06/2020 16:19

If you cant get food, you wont be needing the toilet paper anyway will you? Just a thought.

Tableclothing · 07/06/2020 16:20

Aren't people still trying to keep enough in the house so they can self isolate for a fortnight if need be?

PhilCornwall1 · 07/06/2020 16:21

Nope. Home delivery works well.

TheChestnutCafe · 07/06/2020 16:21

We've still got 5 x 9 pack of toilet paper left from when I stockpiled in February.
Chest freezer in garage is full.
Still lots of tinned / non perishables.
Toiletries and otc medicines stocked up.

Planning on keeping it going, it's great never to run out of anything and if there's no second wave (I think there will be) then our supplies will come in useful for Brexit shortages.

LadyConstanceDeCoverlet · 07/06/2020 16:21

We know from experience of the first wave that it didn't lead to loo paper shortages - what led to that was idiots hoarding. So your husband is certainly being daft.

TatianaBis · 07/06/2020 16:23

Oh FFS, here we go. So what's after the 2nd wave, the 3rd, 4th, 5th?

Quite possibly if you read up on Spanish flu.

LaceCurtains · 07/06/2020 16:24

No, Lady, what led to shortages was the fact that no one was prepared for the prospect of staying at home for a while, so everyone had to stock up at the same time. If everyone already had enough to last a few weeks, there would have been no panic buying and no shortages in the shops.

Ariela · 07/06/2020 16:28

Well I bought extra In January - because it was on offer. All I've done since then is buy what I need to top it up to the January level. It was on offer last month again.

BlueBrian · 07/06/2020 16:28

Seems like a good idea, with the current bunch of clowns running the country, you never know what disaster they'll inflict on us next,
