AIBU?

My DH has bought extra loo roll as he thinks a second wave

He's just got back from Aldi and says no one was at the door monitoring how many people were going in and 'it was like lockdown was completely over'. So he decided to get a few extra loo rolls as he's certain a second wave is inevitable a lot sooner than everyone thinks.

So is he a) Completely crackers = YABU

or b) Sensible = YANBU

@TheoriginalLEM

The only fucking reason we ran out of bog roll the last time was because people panic bought them all. It was ridiculous then and is ridiculous now. PLEASE don't be selfish again.

Got to agree with this.

I got very lucky in Australia, in that I happened to be in the supermarket the evening the run on bog roll started - I noticed that there was barely any left, so bought a pack of 6 rolls, just in case. Bloody good job I did as the next day there was none to be had anywhere and it carried on like that for 2 weeks, and then people had to queue for it, it was rationed etc.

I kind of don't blame him BUT it's that sort of hoarding mentality that starts it.

Buying now and maintaining a stockpile is not panic buying though. Leaving it until the last minute when you really really need it is panic buying.

I would imagine a lot of people are still going through their loo roll forts bought a few months ago and won't have to buy loo roll til next year.

I did very very half hearted prep for first time around

Everything unused (tins etc)

Never been short of delicious fresh food and toilet roll. Not once. (marks and Waitrose)

@PhilCornwall1 Decking. You need decking, no one will see it though because even though the "rules" now permit mixing with others it would be selfish of you to do so. On your head be it.

Same here. I hate tinned tomatoes anyway. Grin The supermarkets never closed, there was always food of some sort.

I think everyone really should have enough in of food, drink etc to be able to isolate for 2 weeks on very short notice, if you don't how will you survive if a T&T rings to say you have been in contact with someone?

If not a second wave, the end of the transition period for brexit isn’t far away and no deal in sight

Yes there will b a second wave but probably more localised lockdowns

Only 9 rolls!

We’d need more than that to survive a 2nd wave in this house 🤣🤣

I doubt there will be a second lockdown at least not to the same degree as the first but I don't see anything strange about setting aside "extras" of things that can't go bad or have a long expiration date. I've already replenished our stash of loo roll and intend to check the pantry soon to see which other things I should be buying an extra box, tin, or bag of, to keep us in good supply.

If you can afford it, I simply don't see a downside to being prepared for disruptions, hard times, or whatever else may come our way. If you buy staples your family regularly eats, it will be used sooner or later, even if nothing out of the usual happens. And it's not like loo roll will be going out of fashion.

I think the chances of a second wave are high, but I don't think he needs to buy more toilet roll!

I'm not worried about a second wave, more and more people are bored with the plague. A lot of them the eternally thick who were responsible for the panic buying.

I'm far more concerned about a no deal brexit. We have no idea how that's going to affect food supplies in the short term. No point in banging on about just acting normally and the blessed delivery service if there's not much to put on the shelves in the first place.

Then people still won't learn. Just like they haven't here Grin crack on.

Personally I thought it was an excellent dry run from a prepping perspective. Something solid to work with now.

My NHS friends are predicting a second wave for October.

Can your "NHS friends" give me next Friday's euromillions numbers please?

@LadyConstanceDeCoverlet

I'm not so sure about the protests causing a second wave. It didn't really happen with the VE day celebrations; also there is much less spread of the virus in the open air, and its survival rate is much less when the weather is hot.

Big difference between 50 people doing a street party and 15,000 crammed together

I've heard the my friends works in the nhs thing
So far they have apparently predicted a second wave in
July
August
September
October
November
December
Bizarrely I work in the NHS and we are all just getting in with ensuring that we can get back to providing routine services whilst having the capacity to switch priorities quickly if we need to
No one is is predicting anything
They are just going on a short term basis and cracking on whilst also looking further ahead to ensure we can cope with winter pressures etc
Janice in the canteen may be predicting Armageddon
The rest of us are just getting on
With it

HAVE PEOPLE LEARNT NOTHING?!?

For actual fuck’s sake. Supplies are FINE. There was a shitshow for a few weeks due to all the fucking stockpiling can people just be normal and we won’t need empty supermarket shelves again next time.

Isn't that exactly it? Peope have learned that it's sensible to keep enough in so they don't t need to be out panic buying worh everyone else next time there's an emergency. If everyone had gradually bought a few extra ahead of this crisis there would have been no shortages.

Plenty of bogroll going here. Last bought a Costco pack in Feb, a bit prematurely and we're grand for another month at least.

With the whole household being in full time, we've been using our toilets (and roll) every single time apart from an occasional bush wee while at walking the rural wilds.

We did build stocks of food and household supplies up early, and in the 10 days that the supermarkets were empty, only needed a few fresh items and kept the dwindling supplies on the shelves for people who needed it more.

We've kept supplies up for the event of quarantine/ illness and will do for some time. I'm still waiting for the second wave of Easter/ VE Day/Whitsun bank holiday/flicking to the beaches or whatever it is that will cause it any day now Wink

Being well stocked if you have the money/ space is just sensible. A 9 pack is for amateurs though Grin

@Jaxhog really? Where are you?

My friend in the NHS is predicting a second wave in September. Last month she predicted it in July. And in March she predicted that there would be dead bodies piled up in the car park at the local doctors. She predicted in April that the virus was actually here in October and that she'd already had it and that there will be a third wave in August. Cause we've had the second wave Grin
