Have just been watching the PE with him after being recommended it and maybe he’s having an off day but oh my, AIBU to ask if he seems so moany and whiny, not to mention he seems so out of breath. I’ve not seen him before - is this usual for him? I found the exercises ok so would watch again if this was just an off day

I think this had gone on longer than he thought!

Lots of kids are bored with it and he might be too!

Oysterbabe · 27/04/2020 09:41

I thinks he's hot.

LaurieMarlow · 27/04/2020 09:42

It’s tough to maintain enthusiasm this long.

Same as the rest of us really.

BumDiggyDiggyDiggyBumDiggyBum · 27/04/2020 09:44

Poor guy will be knackered 😂 he’s done it every weekday since lockdown started. Sure he had surgery on his hand recently too, and he has 2 young kids. I’d have given up a long time ago! Not even like he’s earning anything, pretty sure he’s donating all profit to some nhs charity

Chocolateandcarbs · 27/04/2020 09:44

I’ve done it every day with the kids and it’s been brilliant! He’s high energy and motivated my kids to get up and going. Doing it every day gives a nice difference between weekdays and weekends too for us.

Puddlesplasher · 27/04/2020 09:45

We only did the first day with him. DS got bored as he spent too much time talking.

noblegiraffe · 27/04/2020 09:47

He’s doing a workout in a suit in warm weather, of course he’s finding it tough!

He’s trying really hard to mix it up and stop it getting stale. We like the trivia quizzes!

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 27/04/2020 09:52

Oh I found today's hilarious .

He's trying so hard to keep it up beat and mix it up. He's thinking on his feet and today's was a bit of an experiment. Today was a bit of a one off and not normally like that. His coin toss thing worked better as it had more of a structure

I like the quizzes too

fivesecondrule · 27/04/2020 09:53

We lasted 2 weeks- think it's brilliant what he's doing and I am in absolutely no position to critique the bloke but the "Nikki shoutout" after every exercise started making my grumpy teenager even more grumpy.

LaurieMarlow · 27/04/2020 09:55

The coin toss was great

Jupiter202020201 · 27/04/2020 09:55

He has two young children so could be tired from a bad nights sleep. I don’t find him whiney at all usually he’s a very positive person most of the time and seems up beat in any video/broadcast I’ve watched. I guess it could be an odd day - we all have them and what he is doing is very physically tiring

Pukkatea · 27/04/2020 09:57

I think he's probably more involved behind the scenes of his business than proper fitness these days, plus has young kids I believe? But yeah, I don't think he is actually that athletic for a man who makes his fortune from it. He posted a 5k run on instagram once and he was slower than me, and I'm an entirely average female runner.

Cremebrule · 27/04/2020 09:59

We switched off after day one as he just seemed to yabber on and we all lost interest. It’s a good thing he’s doing though and it’s working for lots of people.

chunkyrun · 27/04/2020 09:59

Probably having a bad day. He's only human

maddy68 · 27/04/2020 10:02

He does talk too much but it gets my lardy arse moving so can't complain

Moltenpink · 27/04/2020 10:06

I read an interview with him in the guardian, he thinks that appearing to find it difficult & being out of breath makes it more accessible to normal people, so he might be putting it on a bit Smile

Kelsoooo · 27/04/2020 10:08

He was in a bloody suit....

Watch his adult one if you think he's unfit. Or "average" as a Pp posted.

He definitely hams it up for the kids, which is sweet. Stops them feeling hopeless. Which I can remember feeling in PE when I was puffed out with a stitch but the teacher was pushing on and implying we were wimps....and that's only 15yrs ago.

Seriously, he's a machine. I don't normally buy into these fitness guru things. Too much ...zen and strategic detoxes normally. But he's good.

Also his family is lovely.

Abreadsandwich · 27/04/2020 10:11

I think it makes him seem more human when he seems to be finding it hard. And I think hes putting in lots of effort to mix things up and bringing in quizzes, spot the difference, country toss and spin the wheel.(plus fancy dress)
I used to find him a bit annoying, but ive been really impressed.

BlueGheko · 27/04/2020 10:11

I think today was an off day, he's usually much better. His workouts are a bit mild for me but I do them to encourage ds but I wish he would do proper warm ups and cool downs though, I do my own 5 minutes before he starts. He's got lots of kids moving and raised lots of money to boot. At least he's a proper fitness instructor unlike some of the z list celebs posting self promoting workout videos.

RoosterPie · 27/04/2020 10:11

There are various things I don’t like about Joe Wicks but I actually really respect what he is doing here. Loads of people are engaged with it and he is raising loads of money for charity.

I think his workouts are good, and I disagree he isn’t very athletic. He’s certainly in very good shape for someone who isn’t.

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 27/04/2020 10:13

I saw him used inhaler in one workout, not the PE. I think he is asthmatic.

I love short workouts with him.

SimonJT · 27/04/2020 10:14

He has two toddlers and he’s recovering from surgery, I wouldn’t be enthusiastic either!

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 27/04/2020 10:15

He totally hams up the being so out of breath but I don’t care, even though I know he is, it makes me feel like way less of an unfit potato!

I’ve been doing his ultimate beginners workout (I’m a V unfit, V large potato) the last few days and I really like his encouragement and his “if you can’t do this one that’s fine, switch it up or take a rest. If you can only do half then that’s still great” rather then the usual workout video spiel of “just push through”

I always thought he was a little bit of a twat (admittedly I have called him a knob to the screen every time I’ve had to do star jumps Grin) but I’ve warmed to him! He’s allowed an off day!

circusintown · 27/04/2020 10:18

"Not even like he’s earning anything"

Oh I think he'll do ok out of it Wink

We turned off after day one. Not like any kids PE lesson I'd ever seen

meowcatmeow · 27/04/2020 10:19

We are two weeks behind with Joe so his enthusiasm is still going strong with the sessions. Kids are enjoying it and it's getting them doing exercises they wouldn't normally do. As a family it's been fun to all do it. However, "shout outs" and the music are getting on my pecs!
Workout level is fine for me but it's pushing the kids and DH...it's accessible for all and 30 mins of family "fun" for us.
