Have just been watching the PE with him after being recommended it and maybe he’s having an off day but oh my, AIBU to ask if he seems so moany and whiny, not to mention he seems so out of breath. I’ve not seen him before - is this usual for him? I found the exercises ok so would watch again if this was just an off day

I have been doing a mix of his pe and hiit workouts and I find them better than most out there due to the fact that I am so uncoordinated. The moves are simple but effective and he is generally a jolly little chappy. I do find him very disorganised though and so far have seen him forget what move comes next in the sequence so one got missed out (adult hiit), his timer ran out of battery (adult hiit) and he forgot to plug his iPad in and his camera ran out of charge (pe). I think I will continue after Lockdown though as his work outs are short and effective which is a winner for me

Spirali · 27/04/2020 11:40

I do his adult workouts. Far less talking! And when he does talk it’s relevant.

DefConOne · 27/04/2020 11:44

I tried his kids work out twice with 9 year old DD (12 year old boy interested). We didn’t like it and haven’t carried on. It was good exercise and at no cost so good for him for providing it. If you don’t like it do something else.

lottiegarbanzo · 27/04/2020 11:46

I did think he was probably going to rip his suit and that 'gameshow / casino host' isn't necessarily a concept familiar to every primary child. But I think his artful 'thinking on my feet and just trying this out on the fly' schtick is very well done and well-pitched for his audience. Just got a bit too real today!

I also love how the wheel of fortune and coin toss days are portraying probability - that randomness is uneven and unpredictable, it doesn't offer neat proportional outcomes.

foxychox · 27/04/2020 11:50

My DC do the workouts most days and sometimes I join in (I'm usually a bit more hardcore when I work out!!), I love his positivity and the fact that he has got off his arse to help people. If you don't like the format or him, that's fair enough but don't knock him for doing it.

MartyrGuacamole · 27/04/2020 11:51

Me and the dc have done it every day, 7yo dd is loving it! 5yo ds is more reluctant but enjoys burpees (little weirdo) and the spiderman lunges. Dh has joined in when not at work and enjoys it too, he pushes harder and does the more complicated exercises. We think Joe is great, very engaging and funny. We like the quizzes and music. I wouldn't want to work out in full suit, shirt and bow tie to be fair, I was impressed he didn't bin his jacket off at half time!

TheMagiciansMewTwo · 27/04/2020 11:51

Today was a bad day. He was too hot and trussed up in that suit ... and he obviously thought the wheel would be a good idea but it ended up not giving enough variety. He's usually much better. (well, I say better - I mean I hate it - it's all too jumpy for me - but the workouts are usually varied, fun and he isn't out of breath)

MorganKitten · 27/04/2020 11:52

He’s asthmatic, and if like me the hot weather and pollen is probably triggering a wheeze or two.

edwinbear · 27/04/2020 11:52

He was definitely not on form today.

lottiegarbanzo · 27/04/2020 11:53

Also... a big part of his attraction to children is surely that, while he's a good fitness coach, he isn't a teacher. Getting things a bit wrong and a bit off-pitch sometimes, adds to that sense of 'sporty uncle' or 'fun family friend' rather than serious, over-prepared teacher.

e.g. Some of his trivia questions, about 'The Office', don't seem right for the audience, while others, on Pixar films are (even if we haven't seen them all).

DodgyTrousers · 27/04/2020 11:54

We only did this for a week 😂😮

saffy1234 · 27/04/2020 12:01

I've not noticed I'm too busy thinking filthy thoughts about him Blush

Umnoway · 27/04/2020 12:02

My DC find him incredibly irritating, zero input from me there (although I agree with them). They can’t stand how much he talks about himself and the endless shoutouts too.

onanothertrain · 27/04/2020 12:10

The being knackered/ out of breath thing is clearly put on. I wonder if he thinks it makes the people doing his workouts feel better. I've not seen his PE lessons but on his other workouts he always seems to be rearranging himself. I found that and his huffing and puffing really irritating.

LaurieMarlow · 27/04/2020 12:13

Yes, this

LyndaSnellsSniff · 27/04/2020 12:24

I think he’s great but I’m not loving sessions like today’s or the coin toss ones because he does have enough time to explain or demo the exercise and the chances are you’ll end up repeating the same exercises over and over. So gets a bit boring and painful!

Thoroughly decent bloke though and takes all the mickey taking on the chin.

BakewellGin1 · 27/04/2020 12:27

I love Joe Wicks however myself and DS do his Abs/HIIT workouts on you tube instead of PE ones and DS at 11 says he doesn't want to to spiderman climbs and superman punches lol

Dogman2020 · 27/04/2020 12:41

Ive often thought this about hi, that for someone supposedly so fit he gets out of breath really easily - not knocking the guy he's doing. more exercise than I will do, I did a few of his Hiit youtube vids a few years ago and found them really good, his lean in 15 is full of decent recipes too.

Ds wasn't into it, we tried day 1 and it wasn't his usual PE so he prefers to throw himself around on the trampoline.

covetingthepreciousthings · 27/04/2020 12:43

I'll admit I used to find him irritating before all this, when he was posting videos of them jetting all over the world telling people how they cope with the toddlers sleep etc.

BUT I have to say, I have really warmed to him, and we have been doing his work outs pretty much every week day. I also think he's putting it on that he finds it hard but again, I would much rather that than someone whose completely smug and can do it all.

I think donating all the revenue from it to the NHS is brilliant too.

I would never do exercise videos before this, and now I'm enjoying them and will continue after all this I hope.

I predict he will be on Strictly next year! Glitterball

covetingthepreciousthings · 27/04/2020 12:45

Also think it must be pretty tough going having non stop interviews etc, the other week he posted his schedule and said he was going to have to take a break from doing so many interviews as it was just non stop.

I don't think he realised just how big this whole thing was going to get for him, and I take my hat off to him for keeping it up!

Natsku · 27/04/2020 12:48

We tried doing it but I couldn't even get through one session! And DD finds him irritating so kept moaning.

IsabelleSE19 · 27/04/2020 12:52

I'd only vaguely heard of him before this and I think what he's doing is brilliant. And he really made me laugh today - sometimes he was Partridgesque!

It gives a structure to our days and means I've got exercise done early doors so I can feel smug. And it wears the DC out. Win win.

I did three planks this morning RELATIVELY EASILY Shock But I'm still shite at pressups.

Yelllow · 27/04/2020 12:54

I think he's trying to make himself more relatable to the everyday person who is doing his videos. Also, he's hot! Haha

nuitdesetoiles · 27/04/2020 12:54

We do him most days. All I can with the breathless thing is it's really hard to instruct and demo at the same time. I used to teach yoga which is obviously a lot less cardio and I got breathless with a headache at the end of each session! Not as fit as him though clearly
