Have just been watching the PE with him after being recommended it and maybe he’s having an off day but oh my, AIBU to ask if he seems so moany and whiny, not to mention he seems so out of breath. I’ve not seen him before - is this usual for him? I found the exercises ok so would watch again if this was just an off day

I didn't do it today but usually tune in. The guy is doing a great thing in my opinion and also donating the advertising revenue to the NHS. I don't think he should be criticised, even if you personally don't enjoy it. Top bloke.

HandfulOfFlowers · 27/04/2020 12:59

My children didn't like the kids ones but I have been doing the adult HIIT workouts. They are great, you never have to do any single exercise for long so easier to push yourself.

Shayisgreat · 27/04/2020 13:01

I don't do his daily PE classes but I do some of his HIIT videos and I think they're great! He's handsome and charming which also helps! I follow his wean in 15 instagram as well which gave me some ideas for DS. All in all, I'm a bit of a fan.

jamaisjedors · 27/04/2020 13:03

This reminds me of a talk by Brené Brown about Daring Greatly that I watched last night on Netflix (her tedtalk is on youtube too) :

Tell ya what, why don’t you make a fitness channel, upload quality workout routines live daily at 9.00, write a couple of cookbooks in between and raise a young family in between a couple of tv appearances. I’m sure it’s a doddle. Remember to keep smiling, don’t moan and don’t lose your breath.

If you go out on a limb and "dare", then you will get criticism.

Or you can just stay on your sofa in your comfort zone.

Nosuchluck · 27/04/2020 13:07

I was doing it every day but have now switched to his 20 minute coin toss workout. It’s great!

Ohdeariedear · 27/04/2020 13:08

This morning he was in a suit which he was finding difficult to move properly in, and then he was getting agitated because the wheel he’d made for picking the random exercises wasn’t properly balanced so it kept landing on the same 2 or 3 things and he couldn’t work out why.

We thought it was funny but we’ve been doing it since day 1 so knew it was a bit different from the norm. If today was your first day I can see why you might be underwhelmed. Try again tomorrow!

DominaShantotto · 27/04/2020 13:10

He annoys me personally - but I do appreciate the effort he's making and the structure it gives to the kids days. We were just watching expecting his suit trousers to split doing the squats this morning!

DH's work have rescheduled their call timetable to fit in PE with Joe on a morning.

LondonJax · 27/04/2020 13:12

He usually records the PE session, a session for the 'not so fit' as he explained last week and a seniors fitness session all in the same day.

No wonder he's out of puff sometimes!

lottiegarbanzo · 27/04/2020 13:25

Oh, Strictly is a good call!

I find him very 'bouncy labrador puppy', so sweet and chirpy rather than attractive. Maybe it's my age!

Basilandparsleyandmint · 27/04/2020 13:26

Joe Wicks rocks - love him and it has really helped my fitness! I will definitely carry on with him when this is all over.
He really tries to make it fun for the kids

ducksback · 27/04/2020 13:27

He is bloody brilliant. Is there NOTHING that people on here won't whinge about?

DontStandSoClose · 27/04/2020 13:30

My husband was a sports coach for many years and did quite a bit of fitness coaching, he did the second day with our daughter and laughed all the way through, he couldn’t get over how unfit he was and how much he was shaking on the simplest exercises. I think he lost my husband in the first 10 seconds though when he started the whole routine with stretches, pretty basic stuff that you don’t stretch cold muscles!

hanahsaunt · 27/04/2020 13:32

I hadn't encountered him before all this. We have done the workout every day - me and ds3 (12) and dd (10). It's absolutely brilliant! Good at mixing it up to keep it interesting and given we are into week 6, he's doing a good job. It's interactive, feels like we're in it together and just fun. It has been a really good way to start the day, to the extent I am pondering how to manage something similar when real life starts again and have to comply with work time and the like.

atotalshambles · 27/04/2020 13:39

we are all loving the Joe Wicks PE lessons. He is hilarious and I think the aim is to have a bit of fun and he pretends to be struggling to motivate the kids (adults!) who are struggling. I wake up and feel so fed up with another groundhog day in lockdown and feel so much better afterwards. I would defo recommend.

Splenetic · 27/04/2020 13:47

Is there NOTHING that people on here won't whinge about?

Long before he became Kids' PE Coronavirus National Treasure, he most often featured on here as Annoying As Fuck Man Has Baby And Thinks It Makes Him Parenting Guru. (See also variations on 'My baby is SO CHILLED because I am SO CHILLED with my baby -- listen and learn, uptight parents!')

HeavenlyEyes · 27/04/2020 13:49

he donated revenue from the exercise streams yes - but his following and sign ups to his plan has gone through the roof. Do not be mistaken that this free exercise routine has been a huge money maker for him.

Puffthemagicdragongoestobed · 27/04/2020 13:52

We like Joe Wicks. Did his workout religiously for the first two weeks but then lost our mojo over the Easter break. We try to tune in every morning but have been sleeping in a bit more so are never quite ready for 9 am. I am usually the one doing it as I think it helps me with my achy back and gives me the feeling I have done at least some exercise. The kids join in if they want to. We missed this morning’s session though.
I think it’s great he still keeps going, he tries to spice things up with the quizzes and he is a genuinely likeable guy.

MissSingerbrains · 27/04/2020 13:55

You’re not meant to watch his workout, you’re meant to do it.

And yes, I’m pretty sure he’s just putting on all the huffing and puffing to be more relatable.

ScouseQueen · 27/04/2020 14:01

Today's didn't quite work but good on him for mixing it up and trying new things. He's doing something good.
If you don’t like it do something else.
This! Easy to moan, hard to do something better yourself.

michaelbaubles · 27/04/2020 14:01

Most of the the things I teach I find pretty bloody easy to do. I don't stand in front of the class going on about how simple I find it and how it's such a piece of cake! Instead if there is something I've always found tricky I'll make a point of it, maybe sharing how I get to grips with that or just modelling resilience and not giving up.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 27/04/2020 14:04

WE LOVE JOE WICKS!!!

We have done the workout everyday since he started on the 23/3. He is so funny, he tries really hard to keep the kids interested and it’s working in our house, we are all fitter and stronger thanks to Joe.

I’ve lost loads of weight doing his workouts. I don’t think he imagined the schools would be closed for so long when he started. He’s done so much good, don’t knock the guy.

LaurieMarlow · 27/04/2020 14:05

Do not be mistaken that this free exercise routine has been a huge money maker for him.

So? He deserves it.

He was straight off the mark with this, has delivered something really valuable to this country and beyond. And he’s making money for the NHS.

He’s right up there in terms of people who’ve used their talents to make this time more bearable for others. Great job.

Littlelemonposset · 27/04/2020 14:07

Thanks for all your comments. In answer then it seems that today wasn’t representative and if he has asthma and is recovering from an op that would explain things. I’ll give it another go tomorrow.
As for ‘Tell ya what, why don’t you make a fitness channel, upload quality workout routines live daily at 9.00, write a couple of cookbooks in between and raise a young family in between a couple of tv appearances. I’m sure it’s a doddle. Remember to keep smiling, don’t moan and don’t lose your breath’ I won’t because it’s not my job that I’m inadvertently promoting (I’m assuming that’s why there was the push on likes?)

My DC and I do the JW workouts every weekday morning. Joe is absolutely amazing! Every morning he's there, with a workout, sometimes fancy-dress, a new quiz of some sort, spot-the-differences and a truckload of enthusiasm and positivity. Truly unbelievable that anyone would criticise him - and ironically call HIM moany. He was working out in a tuxedo today, or course he's going to be out of breath! The guy is a national hero.

LaurieMarlow · 27/04/2020 14:14

Has anyone noticed that he never mentions Coronavirus itself? It’s a positive break from it all and that’s really valuable.
