Have just been watching the PE with him after being recommended it and maybe he’s having an off day but oh my, AIBU to ask if he seems so moany and whiny, not to mention he seems so out of breath. I’ve not seen him before - is this usual for him? I found the exercises ok so would watch again if this was just an off day

I properly laughed today when he appeared in his suit. We’ve been doing the workouts from week one. I spend a lot of time shouting at him to shut up, but he’s quite a sweetie, really, and is really making an effort to keep it interesting.

My waist is re-appearing, too. I haven’t had one for ten years.

Nosuchluck · 27/04/2020 14:16

LaurieMarlow that’s one of the things I’ve noticed and liked about him. I loved his quizzes and just melt when his daughter gets in on the video.

lotusbell · 27/04/2020 14:18

He talks too much and his accent grates on me. I have to mute his Instagram videos with the 'and that is lean in 15!'. He shouts!
Sorry if I've offended anyone with a similar accent, you'd probably wince at mine.

MovinOnUp · 27/04/2020 14:27

Wow, A guy gives up his time and puts amazing amounts of effort to keep children active during this extremely difficult time and all some can do is bitch and whine.
Catch yourselves on.

If you or your children don't enjoy it, Don't fucking do it.

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 27/04/2020 14:29

It's not PE! which is physical education, obviously. It'san exercise session. He's still lovely though ....

Michaelbaubles · 27/04/2020 14:34

Of course he’s trying to get publicity and make a bit of money - a personal trainer you worked out with at the gym might ask you to share their FB page or refer your friends to them, it’s called business! But he spends his time actually producing decent content day after day for thousands of people without asking for anything more from them than the odd “like” - he’s not just poncing around trying to make himself look good, it’s hard work!

StripeyDeckchair · 27/04/2020 14:38

We do Joe Wicks every day.
Tbh today's wasnt one of the best - the wheel picked one exercise x3 and a couple x2 I prefer his planned workouts.

Hes worth doing if you want a short something to get the day going.

Branleuse · 27/04/2020 14:44

I try and do it 2 or 3 times a week. I dont find him whiny

Suzanne12 · 27/04/2020 14:45

We gave it a try near the start but the kids weren't a fan so we've stuck with Cosmic Kids Yoga and zumba dance videos. In the good weather, we've been doing ball games and bike riding in the garden instead of being in front of the tv.

Enough4me · 27/04/2020 14:49

I'm addicted, start every day with his PE sessions.

I used to find him annoying and a bit whiny, but I take the p1ss out of him whilst exercising with the DC and it makes us laugh. Plus I really appreciate that he doesn't talk about C-19 and all the additional risks that will now probably become our new reality. He knows he can exercise without struggling, he just moans to make us all feel better!

RuffleCrow · 27/04/2020 14:50

I didn't see todays but i have done a couple and found him really upbeat and fun. I'm a sucker for an Essex accent though.

Hopeful201 · 27/04/2020 14:54

Not done the PE with him as I thought it was aimed at the kids. I have followed him for years, (can't think why) he has always been upbeat and great at encouraging. I can't believe anyone would moan about him, just switch it off. I think he's great, done well for himself and seems a decent guy.

sauvignonblancplz · 27/04/2020 14:58

He’s brilliant. He’s trying really hard to make it engaging for kids .
He has so much content online for free and I think that that’s a testament to his character and enthusiasm for fitness.
I think his enthusiasm is really refreshing .

NeedToKnow101 · 27/04/2020 15:01

I like him. I had to switch off the kids one (as I'm 50 Blush), but I like his half hour HIIT.

  1. Love the fact that they're only half an hour
  2. I like that he puffs and pants and seems a bit knackered, makes him a bit more relateable.
Having said that, I haven't don't it for a week, must get back on it!
covetingthepreciousthings · 27/04/2020 15:08

Has anyone noticed that he never mentions Coronavirus itself? It’s a positive break from it all and that’s really valuable.

Yes totally agree about this.

Maighdeann · 27/04/2020 15:08

I think he's fab and trying really hard to keep the kids engaged by adding new things. If you follow him on insta you'd have seen how excited he was when that bloody wheel arrived. I was a bit worried that he was going to pass out today!

I'm going to sign up for his plan as it's on special offer at £50 and you don't have to start it right away.

bumblingbovine49 · 27/04/2020 15:19

fgs, I follow a different exercise coach but they also are more jokey and make out they are more tired in the 'beginner/intermediate' videos.

I did an advanced one (by accident!) a couple of days ago and the main coach was like a different person. All the friendly 'do what you can but just keep going' lines were gone. It was loads of barking and shouting like a sargent major Grin. I found it fascinating and quite funny

Sparticle · 27/04/2020 15:21

@RuffleCrow he's from Surrey not Essex. It was one of his trivia quiz questions one morning and said that often people get that wrong :D

I've also been thinking how I can incorporate a regular exercise session into my daily routine when All This is over. Doing it with the DCs has been brilliant but I'm not sure they'd be as keen if it wasn't live :(

Hello1290 · 27/04/2020 15:21

DD has been doing Joe's workout every day since day one. I think he's brilliant. I didn't know much about him beforehand. The work out is suitable for all ages. It gets DD out of bed and she does her school work straight after.

The fact it's a live workout adds a sense of reality in these difficult times. He was a bit moany today because the spinner kept landing on the same spot and he was very sweaty in his suit but for me this adds to the entertainment!

Timeandtune · 27/04/2020 15:29

I have been doing his exercises for seniors 10 minute workout. I really like him . In fact I admire him. There is something about his style which I find very motivating. I want to keep going even though he can’t see me.

Figgygal · 27/04/2020 15:30

We keep doing his workouts but didn’t today funnily enough
I didn’t know much about him before lockdown he comes across as a really nice hard-working genuine guy.
People are arseholes on this thread and on some of the groups that I’m on saying is boring, he chats too much, saying he’s annoying he’s working bloody hard if you don’t like it turn off there’s no need to be rude

KipperTheFrog · 27/04/2020 15:30

We’ve been doing the pe sessions with him 3 times a week. It gets 5 year old DD involved. She loves when Joes daughter pops up.
He doesn’t normally moan as much as today, but he was doing it in a full suit! He does talk to much though..l

Runbitchrun · 27/04/2020 15:38

You were watching? Just for a laugh or to actually join in?
He was doing a workout in a full suit, so yes he was struggling with some aspects 🙄
I have huge admiration for what he’s done with these PE sessions. He’s consistently providing a free service and trying to mix it up and keep it fresh with the quizzes and coin toss/wheel spin etc. Some things miss the mark a little, but he’s doing an amazing job and it’s got my 2 children both exercising alongside me on a daily basis. That in itself is pretty amazing.

Makegoodchoices · 27/04/2020 15:39

He’s totally turned me around, I wasn’t a fan before but he’s putting so much effort into it you can’t help but be impressed - I’m doing them with my son and it’s lovely to have someone upbeat and energetic to start every day - he’s being so creative for the primary aged kids with quizzes and spot the differences. After doing it my son is more likely to agree to go outside and be energetic.

Poachedeggs1 · 27/04/2020 15:40

Personally, i'm not a fan of his PE classes as I don't feel they engage my children. I also don't think he has a healthy attitude towards food and is often seen on his Instagram gorging and having big blow outs, only to starve himself for the next 2 days. I think he has quite an impulsive personality and this is perhaps the reason his classes can be a bit all over the place.

I follow him on Peloton, and trust me, his output is definitely not what I expected. He's either just cruising along or is not as fit as what he makes out. Just my opinion. Good luck to him though, and if he gets people who would usually be sitting on their backsides moving, then that's a positive.
