Have just been watching the PE with him after being recommended it and maybe he’s having an off day but oh my, AIBU to ask if he seems so moany and whiny, not to mention he seems so out of breath. I’ve not seen him before - is this usual for him? I found the exercises ok so would watch again if this was just an off day

@noblegiraffe ditto with the plank today. I actually commented to DS that a 30 seconds plank feels almost easy now :D

CoronaIsComing · 27/04/2020 10:55

I mean, he was going it in a suit 😂 I think he’s just trying to keep it fun and engaging for the kids!

IHaveAMagicBean · 27/04/2020 10:57

He must have been having an off day op, as I find one of his endearing qualities is his upbeat and jolly attitude.

Tell ya what, why don’t you make a fitness channel, upload quality workout routines live daily at 9.00, write a couple of cookbooks in between and raise a young family in between a couple of tv appearances. I’m sure it’s a doddle. Remember to keep smiling, don’t moan and don’t lose your breath.

NailsNeedDoing · 27/04/2020 10:58

I think he’s great.

Pastaforall · 27/04/2020 10:59

I do his normal workouts in his 90 day plan. I quite like that he properly goes for it in his workouts and gets out of breath it motivates me to carry on.

MortyFide · 27/04/2020 11:04

Aww, I always roll my eyes at him, mutter that he's a long-haired prat with a stupid whiny voice and laughed my socks off when DH said he was going to follow one of his adult HIIT workouts.

But I stayed in the room and watched and was quite impressed. The hamming up the breathlessness is rather inspiring, weirdly...makes him more accessible. I might try it myself, but he can fuck right off with those running burpees.

Isawamagpie · 27/04/2020 11:05

Watched and tried to follow a handful of times, but just couldn't get into him.
I also found him whiney and overly chatty, the shootout stuff got on my nerves and I actually found myself talking to the tele and telling him to "get on with it"

Really don't see the hype or the appeal.

There's thousands of get fit YouTube workouts, that are much more direct and to the point. I've been focusing on these (and I am starting to see great results) rather than "doing" the joe wicks, which just seems to be "whats popular" right now.

I think if you like Joe wicks and find his workouts are good for you, and/or kids, then that's great - but if he's not your thing, there's so many others to try on You Tube (and IMO done more professionally and safely eg. Explaining how to squat right etc)

Beautiful3 · 27/04/2020 11:05

He pretends to be out of breath for the kids! To make them feel like the excerise is hard for him too! I think he is a top bloke. He is doing it for free (although his sponsors advertisements fees on his you tube channel are currently being donated to the nhs I think).

lightyearsahead · 27/04/2020 11:08

I think he is amazing, he is giving up his time to do a live 30 mins slot every day Mon-Fri for your kids to have a bit of structure and keep active in a very difficult situation.
He has given the advertising revenue to charity, he has a day to day business to run, which must be effected. He is a father and partner.
He has done interviews all over the world and got people involved all over the world.
Credit where credit is due, rather thank knock someone who is doing good things. (Not necessarily referring to you OP as you asked a question).

subcentro · 27/04/2020 11:09

You didn’t see Mr Motivator whinging did you?

Hoggleludo · 27/04/2020 11:10

Oh. I love it! He got me into my exercise. He's a good guy. Doing this all from home. Not sure he's even getting paid?!?

He's a good guy. This is all from him.

LaurieMarlow · 27/04/2020 11:10

He’s doing sterling work if you ask me.

I love all his kiddy terms for the moves, Fireman Sam's, Pokemon’s, superman squats. He’s so good at engaging kids in it.

Navelwort · 27/04/2020 11:14

God, stop him talking. The workout itself is fine. But note the unbranded workout gear — the Joe Wickes range is presumably in development somewhere.

Kitty2018 · 27/04/2020 11:18

I think he’s amazing too. I love the structure it gives our day - being ready to go at 9 means we need to be up, breakfasted and dressed by then as opposed to lying in bed all morning 😂
It really helps differentiate between weekdays and weekends too and that is really keeping my sanity as I hate that feeling when every day feels the same and they all just blur into one another.
To be fair, as regards the actual workout, I am definitely more consistent than my DC - they don’t like every exercise and pick and choose which exercises they actually do whereas I do them all. Initially this was just to set an example but now I’m really pleased to find that I can do proper press ups for 30 seconds, hold a plank easily and do burpees for 30s too. Also we love the trivia questions, capital cities etc. I think he is doing really well trying to mix it up so we don’t get bored. If you bear in mind this has to be something anyone can do in a small space (not everyone has a massive living room) and without any props then I think he’s doing a great job.

dannydyerismydad · 27/04/2020 11:18

The first few days, he annoyed the hell out of me. "How many likes do I have? Like me! Subscribe! Shout outs! Poor me, I fell off my bike"

Somehow I've warmed to his daft little self though (although I think the daft is an act. He's a shrewd chap). I'm not getting any fitter though. I'm still a wobbly spud.

TurquoiseDress · 27/04/2020 11:21

I vaguely knew who he was before the lockdown- thanks to posts on here!

Had never seen/done one of his workouts until the lockdown started...I think he's great!

Dressing up, trivia quizzes, spot the difference etc...all good fun

At least he's got up & done something positive to encourage children to stay active during this time, and given parents something to partake in too.

This morning he was wearing a formal suit & shirt etc, so I think it's fair to cut him a bit of slack...he was using the wheel of fortune, so that's why some of his workout exercises were a bit repetitive.

I enjoyed it...as did DH and the 2 DC! Smile

Anewuser · 27/04/2020 11:21

It’s only because you haven’t watched it before.

We’ve done it every day as it’s easy to do and gets us moving. He’s clearly not out of breath but putting it on so the kids know it’s ok for them to be puffed out.

He’s clearly a lovely bloke, you see that when his daughter wanders in.

If it’s high impact exercise you want then PE with Joe isn’t for you. If you fancy something to get you off the settee for a bit that it’s spot on.

Boom Grin Grin

HugeAckmansWife · 27/04/2020 11:25

I sometimes try something new in a classroom lesson and it doesn't go well. I tweak it or change it. I think he's doing a great thing and hundreds of thousands every single day seem to agree. Also he's talking all the way through, listening to the audio feed, keeping track of the time. I think his instagram lifestyle stuff is annoying but the fitness is great.

BerylReader · 27/04/2020 11:28

Plus he’s talking at the same time. In the rest periods he’s still talking whereas I’m catching my breath

The video he did for the Big Night In made me laugh.

CandlesBlanketsandTea · 27/04/2020 11:32

I wasn't sure about Joe but started working out with him at the beginning of April, he's grown on me. He's ridiculous and silly and it makes me smile. I bloody hate Burpees though and that won't change. I enjoy the routine it gives me and I can do more pressups now.

I don't think the wheel of fortune worked the way he hoped this morning, mostly because it kept landing on the same 4 awful exercises. I think at one point this morning he declared he hated it! But he is encouraging and I imagine the kids that get a shout-out must love it.

He isn't great at maths though because he's announced more than once that the 250k viewers equates to 1m actual people, because all households must have about 5 people in them Hmm I live alone so that's not true.

FreakStar · 27/04/2020 11:34

We've done it in school with the kids of Keyworkers on my rota days- to be honest, I admire his commitment and spirit and the intention is good, but from what I've seen he's just jumping around doing aerobic type exercises- it's all a bit manic and samey and the children were bored of it. If he was a bit calmer, gave clearer instructions and went a bit slower the children would have responded better. He's nothing like a PE teacher.

Tighnabruaich · 27/04/2020 11:36

I did his ten minute workout for seniors (I'm 67) and he kept saying he was sweating and mopping his brown, and taking a sip of water after nearly every move. I am a massively unfit couch potato and kept up easily. So I think the 'I'm in a sweat' may have been a fib.

lottiegarbanzo · 27/04/2020 11:37

He's trying to mix things up to keep it interesting and today's didn't work as well as some of the other gimmicks. (We love the trivia quiz and fancy dress Fridays).

I did think he was talking too much about himself today, kit would have been a difficult day for anyone new to it to join.

The 'I'm so out of breath and sweaty' thing is partly because he's doing the exercises properly (most of the time), unlike many of us and mostly just 'talk' to reassure viewers that it's ok to find it hard (but still keep going).
