Have just been watching the PE with him after being recommended it and maybe he’s having an off day but oh my, AIBU to ask if he seems so moany and whiny, not to mention he seems so out of breath. I’ve not seen him before - is this usual for him? I found the exercises ok so would watch again if this was just an off day

We've done it every day. He is a bit annoying but teaching, as so many people are discovering to their amazement, is HARD!

It's not just standing in front of a class-virtual class every day and doing the same thing. It's trying to keep people's attention but while also sticking to the core of what you need to do. It's inspiring people to do more while not demoralising those who can't keep up. It's difficult, he's thrown himself into what's turned into a big job with no support from anyone really, and plenty of criticism. Give him a break. I think it's great what he's doing.

Scarfaceclaw21 · 27/04/2020 10:19

I love it. Done it every day with my family. But this is Mumsnet so, of course, let's all be negative.

peekaboob · 27/04/2020 10:21

I absolutely love him, he is so passionate about what he does and it shows. He's a great dad and husband, really supportive. I love his house looks like it has toddlers in it, some days it's an absolute shit tip.

Of course he'll be making money from doing this via book sales and promo, but he is also raising money for the NHS and the amount of behind the scenes work he does for the workouts is huge.

I love his enthusiasm, his ability to be relatable in the exercise being "hard" for him. I find myself chatting back to him, kids love how he tries to make it fun and through doing his workouts every time I've lost 8lb!

Overall, the message he is trying to get across works for me - exercise does set you up for the day. For me and for the kids.

IndiaMay · 27/04/2020 10:22

When he does the adult HIITS on his YouTube channel they are a lot harder, these are for primary aged kids remember! Today he was in a full suit so bloody hell I'm sure he would find it hot! He always hams up being out of breath, even in adult HIITS to make people feel more comfortable. You only have to look at hom with no shirt on to see how fit he is. He has talked about fitness differences though. He spoke at length at the differences in fitness between him who does weight training at HIITS and distance runners, hes not a fast runner etc. Hes muscle and bulk

cheeseismydownfall · 27/04/2020 10:29

My kids (12, 9, 7) have done it every day since the beginning and are still happy to do it. I'm always in a meeting at that time so only joined in once over the Easter weekend, but I think he is excellent and in general comes across really well - sincere and passionate. I like the fact he gets out of breath. Like a PP said I wonder if he exaggerates it a bit to make it feel more relatable, but I think that is a good thing.

ChangeMeAlready · 27/04/2020 10:31

Chocolate, we too! Love Joe Wicks! I don't care if he is being paid for this (lots of jealous people commenting on that). All I know is that he is doing brilliant job in keeping Nation's children ( and some parents) active.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 27/04/2020 10:31

We turned off after day one. Not like any kids PE lesson I'd ever seen

Most PE lessons aren't done in someone's living room!

FrameByFrame · 27/04/2020 10:32

Today wasn't his best, but I'm really enjoying it. First proper, regular exercise I've done in years. I like how he pitches it at different levels, and just says any exercise is good and makes you feel happier. I do feel a lot fitter, and it starts the day off on a positive for me if I do it.

motheroreily · 27/04/2020 10:33

I loved today's. We were laughing so much. I thought he moaned to make everyone feel better.

Themostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 27/04/2020 10:34

DS doesn't like it but DH and I do them in the evening when he is in bed. We have found them fab for helping us to keep fit and active at this time without needing any equipment or special space.

FoolsLemonTree · 27/04/2020 10:35

Today was an odd one, admittedly.

He was wearing a suit and kept commenting how tight it was.

Sadly, the eagerly awaited rip did not happen...

I've really got into it, although I don't have DC (got roped in by others who do!) But it's not about the workout, exactly - more to do with it being a live thing, new every day, throughout this difficult time, knowing many others are doing it too. Ive cringed at some of the things he does to liven it up, but massively applaud him for doing this - someone needed to.

Bringringbring12 · 27/04/2020 10:35

* Poor guy will be knackered*

Bloody hell, not much of a PT if he is!

Newtothis2017 · 27/04/2020 10:37

I think what he is doing is fantastic. Kids like him a lot. I thought he was pretending to be out of breath to make them kids feel better and keep encouraging them

MaMaLa321 · 27/04/2020 10:38

I think he's brilliant.
Having said that, I gave up after 2 days because I was really suffering aches and pains afterwards. My dh is still doing though and loves it.

RedSoloCup · 27/04/2020 10:40

I've done this every day, love Joe but have to say I didn't rate today's workout at all!

Too random, timer was out and confusing, I like to get a fairly even workout across muscle groups and it just wasn't for me!

It's just a bit of fun for 20 mins though and I'm sure will be different/better tomorrow 😃

Waxonwaxoff0 · 27/04/2020 10:41

DS loves it, we've been doing it every morning since day 1. It's his favourite part of the day. I'm unfit so I find it bloody hard work, and it's good to burn off a few of the extra calories I'm consuming during lockdown!

Personally I have no strong feelings on him one way or the other but it adds some structure to our day and gets us up and out of bed.

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 27/04/2020 10:41

Out of all of this. I think doing a joe Wicks on YouTube on a regular basis Is something going to stick with

I'm not that fit and I do it with my mum who is a lot fitter. And we both get a bit sweaty and hot and we have a giggle doing it

SeasonallySnowyPeasant · 27/04/2020 10:43

I’m WFH so getting the DC doing his workouts really helps to structure their day. I’m in meetings at 9am but the DC seem to be having fun and I’m grateful.

moggiemonster · 27/04/2020 10:46

I enjoy the workouts, today was something a bit new and perhaps it didn't quite work but this happens when teaching.

I started doing these about 2 weeks into lockdown and was recovering from a very nasty virus, so it has been a great motivator phyiscally and mentally. I was a reasonably fit distance runner and had been wiped out by my illness. Joe Wicks has motivated me and I feel much better.

He isn't everyone's cup of tea, yes he will ultimately profit from this but fair play to him for doing this every single morning.

evilharpy · 27/04/2020 10:46

Whether he's your cup of tea or not, he's doing a very good thing that's helping out a lot of people, both kids/parents and charity. It must be a bit of a ballache for him every morning, I think he's doing a great job.

I have to admit though we've only done it a couple of times as my daughter prefers Les Mills Born to Move, she likes dancing better than star jumps.

PatchworkElmer · 27/04/2020 10:46

I think he’s brilliant. I’ve got a decent level of fitness, and the workouts are definitely challenging for me. DS really enjoys it too- we do watch on a 1 day lag though, so haven’t done today’s yet.

Namechangeapril20 · 27/04/2020 10:50

I think hes brilliant. Hes done so well keeping kids motivated and he gives us structure to our day when otherwise we could just be moping about all day. At the minute we're getting up, breakfasted, washed and dressed etc to be ready for 9am to do it live and try and get our names called out (if we sleep in we cant do it live and wont get our names called out) - which keeps us in the same routine as school and helps the rest of the day flow better. Nevermind the fact he's doing it all for free and donating all the money to the NHS, keeping kids fit and healthy (my kids are now doing more exercise than ever) plus helping to keep parents sane and improving families' mental health by encouraging exercise, providing routine and generally just being positive and upbeat. Give the guy a break, hes doing a really great thing with no monetary benefit to himself.

EverythingChanges321 · 27/04/2020 10:51

YANBU.
His voice is just permanently awful. Sounds like someone out of Eastenders, and I really can’t stand that programme.
I tried to follow a workout a few weeks ago and gave up because I couldn’t stand to listen to him a moment longer.

noblegiraffe · 27/04/2020 10:51

I gave up after 2 days because I was really suffering aches and pains afterwards.

Ah you should stick with it, the first few days were horrible afterwards but it’s absolutely fine after that.

I was thinking today how much easier I’m finding the planks and so on so it’s definitely doing something!

Can’t stand burpees though. I shout at Joe every time he suggests them.

Sparticle · 27/04/2020 10:51

I've been doing it every day as well with DS11 and DD7 and we all love it. Today was very funny with him in his suit and he really did seem to be suffering (he said at one point that he was hotter than in the Superman costume) but we stuck with it. In DC's daily school diaries they have regularly written that they felt sad or tired and did JW and felt tons better afterwards so for that alone I will keep going. Plus I'm certainly getting fitter with it.

I prefer the more 'normal' PE workouts he has been doing from a selfish POV because I don't have to focus on telling the children what comes next with a second or two to go but I think it's brilliant how Joe Wicks has been mixing things up for the past five weeks.

And I'd never heard or watched him before all this (I'd seen his face but that's all) and he has really impressed me. But everyone is different so what hundreds of thousands of people like, someone else obviously won't.
