My friend has gone mad right?

A friend of mine has recently got engaged. She is VERY excited. All good, this is lovely. She has a very large solitaire ring which is beautiful. She was showing me today over coffee and I oohed and aahed with appropriate gushiness.

She then said “I know, it’s SO lovely! I wouldn’t like rings like yours. Your wedding ring is so overshadowed by your engagement ring and your wedding ring would be so much better if it was a bit wider as it just looks like you’re engaged. I’m so lucky that I got to go and choose my engagement ring because I really wanted something to my taste and I’d have had to pretend a bit if I got yours”

She’s mental to voice this, to care and to give any thought to my rings, right? 😂

I’ll post a picture of my very ordinary and not worthy of remark rings (I love them, I just say ordinary as think they’re pretty normal and not remark worthy as I know whenever I read a post where someone describes things I’m nosy about what it looks like. Also not offended by anyone else’s opinion on my rings if they can even be bothered to have one!).

And?

Brevityisthesoulofwit · 10/03/2020 16:44

She is not unreasonable to look at yours and decide it’s not what she wants for herself, but it’s bloody rude to tell you what is “wrong” with yours. Why do people have to do this?!

CoralFish · 10/03/2020 16:44

Yep friend is batshit. Does she have form for being a bit socially inept? Most people would not say something like that but I have one friend who I can totally imagine coming out with a similar comment.

MaltbyMaeve · 10/03/2020 16:44

Yes you’re friend is bonkers and incredibly tactless. As you say your ring combo is perfectly standard (and lovely).

L1appelDuVide · 10/03/2020 16:44

It’s a beautiful ring OP and looks just right with your wedding ring. I think you should be prepared for a Bridezilla in your future.....

CuriousaboutSamphire · 10/03/2020 16:45

I hope you used an MN classic retort

Did you mean to be so rude

CathyTre · 10/03/2020 16:45

I just thought it was a really odd conversation so I just sort of went “Well your ring is very beautiful” (it is! But it’s just someone else’s ring isn’t it?)

Are you certain she's a 'friend'? She sounds rather impolite and thoughtless to me - so perhaps just astonishingly lacking in self-awareness.

QueenOfOversharing · 10/03/2020 16:45

Or "are you on glue"?

Fairyliz · 10/03/2020 16:46

Well we know who is going to be a bridezilla and it isn’t you

clary · 10/03/2020 16:46

Your friend is very rude is all. I wonder sometimes what is the matter with people. Your rings are lovely btw.

CathyTre · 10/03/2020 16:46

She also asked me to be bridesmaid so I hope this is just excited batshitness 😂

Crazyoldmaurice · 10/03/2020 16:46

Its classic to have your engagement ring overshadow your wedding ring. Traditionally wedding rings are supposed to be just a plain band, nothing fancy.

Your friend clearly has a lot of time on her hands to put such thought into someone else's taste in jewellery.

SillyCow6 · 10/03/2020 16:46

She is a cow, who needs enemies with friends like these?!

Freddiefox · 10/03/2020 16:46

@MrsJoshNavidi

What’s the point if your comment? Why post ‘and’ that could be used for so many threads on here.

TheMerryWidow1 · 10/03/2020 16:47

and she is supposed to be your friend?

ItsJustTheOneSwanActually · 10/03/2020 16:47

Yours are lovely

she's a cow Grin

pigsDOfly · 10/03/2020 16:47

Goodness, not a lot one can say about that really.

She sounds delightful.

LovelyBitOfSquirrelJackie · 10/03/2020 16:48

You’re right OP. She’s weird to voice all that stuff, even if she thinks it privately.

SudokuQueen · 10/03/2020 16:48

I think you're going to be far too busy to be a bridesmaid op..

Seriously if you agree to be a bridesmaid, prepare for hell. She will be awful to deal with.

foamrolling · 10/03/2020 16:49

Mad isn't the word I'd use. Deeply unpleasant. Materialistic. Not actually a good friend. They all seem more appropriate.

Wolfiefan · 10/03/2020 16:49

You soooooooo don’t want to be a bridesmaid.
Rings are lovely BTW. Grin

Fishcakey · 10/03/2020 16:49

She is so batshit lol!

GaaaaarlicBread · 10/03/2020 16:50

Yours are both beautiful . I’ve never even heard anyone insult someone else’s rings before, she’s crazy !
My engagement ring ‘overshadows’ my wedding ring, I thought it was the norm anyway??

My friend has gone mad right?
CathyTre · 10/03/2020 16:51

She’s honestly usually really lovely and normal! I was a bit like this face 😳

I hope I don’t have to wear peach frills if I do end up doing bridesmaid duty! Or maid of honour or whatever it is when you’re old and lots of people’s mum.
