My friend has gone mad right?

A friend of mine has recently got engaged. She is VERY excited. All good, this is lovely. She has a very large solitaire ring which is beautiful. She was showing me today over coffee and I oohed and aahed with appropriate gushiness.

She then said “I know, it’s SO lovely! I wouldn’t like rings like yours. Your wedding ring is so overshadowed by your engagement ring and your wedding ring would be so much better if it was a bit wider as it just looks like you’re engaged. I’m so lucky that I got to go and choose my engagement ring because I really wanted something to my taste and I’d have had to pretend a bit if I got yours”

She’s mental to voice this, to care and to give any thought to my rings, right? 😂

I’ll post a picture of my very ordinary and not worthy of remark rings (I love them, I just say ordinary as think they’re pretty normal and not remark worthy as I know whenever I read a post where someone describes things I’m nosy about what it looks like. Also not offended by anyone else’s opinion on my rings if they can even be bothered to have one!).

Definitely batshit. Your rings are lovely, OP.

I have a friend who makes similar comments, and coupled with a general lack of empathy and self awareness, I question if she might have aspergers which presents differently in women.

I’m going out for a drink with Mr rubbish ring buying husband now so I’ll check in later - thank you for all replies; I’m over my slight bit of pique now!

Nothing wrong with your rings but plenty wrong with her manners and maturity. I hope she grows up a bit before she gets married.

Genevieva · 10/03/2020 18:30

I like your rings. They are just the right size for your nice slim fingers.

Vanhi · 10/03/2020 18:31

She also asked me to be bridesmaid so I hope this is just excited batshitness

Run. Honestly, I'd be out of the starting gates faster than Frankel. It's only going to get worse.

IdblowJonSnow · 10/03/2020 18:32

I love your jewels too. Very tasteful and classy.
I wouldn't fancy being her bridesmaid.

Wigglewaggle01 · 10/03/2020 18:35

How very rude of your 'friend'

Does she have form for being a bitch? She doesn't sound like a nice friend or person TBH!

BTW Your rings are very lovely.

Fluffycloudland77 · 10/03/2020 18:36

I need to see the ruby now......

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 10/03/2020 18:40

Your rings are lovely OP

They fit your finger very well and are not OTT .

Ignore your friend , she sounds RUDE.

HavenDilemma · 10/03/2020 18:40

She was wrong to say it like that, but seems you asked for opinions, I'd say I'm afraid I do agree that your wedding band is too narrow and is overshadowed by your engagement ring. I too would assume you were just engaged

AtrociousCircumstance · 10/03/2020 18:42

Regardless of the topic - could be rings, cars, homes, hairstyles, your doctoral theses - she was saying “Yours is shit. Mine is better than yours. Haha look how shit yours looks, and look how wonderful mine is!”

I couldn’t tolerate the company of such a malicious idiot!

DontCallMeShitley · 10/03/2020 18:44

She doesn't sound old enough to be getting engaged, more like a little girl playing at grown ups.

I don't like big flashy rings, yours is perfect.

Worriedmom2020 · 10/03/2020 18:45

No a fan of tact is she? What a gobshite.

Lynda07 · 10/03/2020 18:46

She is a silly, tactless bitch. I think your engagement is charming and am furious that the woman was so rude.

altiara · 10/03/2020 18:52

This would be a moment for me where the friendship would die a little as I’d now always be waiting for for a put down Sad

Theyweretheworstoftimes · 10/03/2020 18:54

She is not your friend and she is batshitcrazy.

itgetsthehoseagain · 10/03/2020 19:03

Your rings are BEAUTIFUL!

SunshineCake · 10/03/2020 19:05

@IdblowJonSnow I thought you'd put you fancy her (the OPs) husband Grin.

lilgreen · 10/03/2020 19:06

@MrsJoshNavidi are you the batshit friend?
Of course yanbu op. She obviously is a bit jealous of you in some way and is using her ‘larger’ ring to lord it over you. Why would she otherwise?

Toomuchtrouble4me · 10/03/2020 19:06

My engagement ring is a huge solitary diamond and my wedding ring a plain band. Engagement is showier - I think thats the normal way to wear them, but each to their own. Wait until after the wedding and then tell her that her arse looked huge in her wedding dress and you're so pleased that you went for a flattering style.

pussycatinboots · 10/03/2020 19:10

her arse looked huge in her wedding dress...
GrinGrin

another needing to see the ruby
you could wear it on your right hand for the wedding Wink

BumblePan · 10/03/2020 19:14

I think it's a sign of things to come...think long and hard before you say yes to bridesmaid duty....your rings are lovely btw.

Fanciedachange1 · 10/03/2020 19:14

It’s so personal you shouldn’t be rude to others! She was being obnoxious.

I always thought I would have a chunky wedding ring but when I tried different ones on I realised the skinnier one was perfect.

I never had an engagement ring (the shock!) but I chose my own 5 years or so after marriage. I’m not a ring person so don’t wear it often, but your friend would hate it. Black coloured gem and skulls! I love the gothiness of it but I understand it isn’t to everyones taste, but then everyone doesn’t have to wear it!

Dizzygirl00 · 10/03/2020 19:14

Your rings are lovely 😊 she sounds a right a-hole 🙄

CheekyMango · 10/03/2020 19:16

@CathyTre probably just excited verbal diarrhea 😂
