My friend has gone mad right?

A friend of mine has recently got engaged. She is VERY excited. All good, this is lovely. She has a very large solitaire ring which is beautiful. She was showing me today over coffee and I oohed and aahed with appropriate gushiness.

She then said “I know, it’s SO lovely! I wouldn’t like rings like yours. Your wedding ring is so overshadowed by your engagement ring and your wedding ring would be so much better if it was a bit wider as it just looks like you’re engaged. I’m so lucky that I got to go and choose my engagement ring because I really wanted something to my taste and I’d have had to pretend a bit if I got yours”

She’s mental to voice this, to care and to give any thought to my rings, right? 😂

I’ll post a picture of my very ordinary and not worthy of remark rings (I love them, I just say ordinary as think they’re pretty normal and not remark worthy as I know whenever I read a post where someone describes things I’m nosy about what it looks like. Also not offended by anyone else’s opinion on my rings if they can even be bothered to have one!).

Yes nuts! Who would say that? A bit of an oddball!

EssexBint · 11/03/2020 20:16

Distance yourself from her and eventually she will be in the past. Friends like that you don't need - she's either stupid, or she knows exactly what she's saying and the desired effect. Stick with your genuine friends.

BitOfFun · 11/03/2020 20:17

Mine aren't too dissimilar to yours, @CathyTre. My wedding ring is pretty minuscule Grin.

BitOfFun · 11/03/2020 20:19

Oh, and upside down in that photo too Grin.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 11/03/2020 20:20

Oh dear Grin

You should remind her of D of C's engagement ring, now that overshadows her wedding ring Grin

sue20 · 11/03/2020 20:30

your rings are particularly beautiful, how strange. she sounds stupid. maybe you should have pointed out what she was doing, she sounds like she needs to cultivate a bit of self awareness

InforaPenny7 · 11/03/2020 20:31

My friend who I like very much and is lovely once gently shuddered at my rings (pretty but by no means many-carat-monsters!) and said ‘oh I couldn’t wear anything flashy.’😂 It did make me laugh because they honestly aren’t and if they were I’d be fine with it tbh

Flythedragons · 11/03/2020 20:33

How rude of your friend and a bit weird. I love your rings, they look beautiful.

LeahWarburton · 11/03/2020 21:12

Your rings are lovely.

FlyMayBe · 11/03/2020 21:31

Is that you, Eugenie?

CuppaZa · 11/03/2020 21:36

You friend is rude and verging in bitchy.
Your rings are beautiful op. Rings are very personal, and to insult someone over personal taste is just wrong.
FWIW, my engagement ring completely dominates the whole of my left hand, due to size, colour, cut. And I love it. I purposely went for a more demure wedding band as my engagement rock is the star

LightDrizzle · 11/03/2020 21:38

My wedding band looks like a washer Grin
It’s a platinum washer though, I love the way it is bombproof, comfy and classic.
Horses for courses.
I agree with a previous poster that as with other people’s babies, the only appropriate response to being shown an engagement ring is “beautiful” and it to slag off other people’s.

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 11/03/2020 21:42

Bit rude, isn’t she? Prepare for Bridezilla - I’d back away now. Your dresses will probably match the napkins.

Delicatelyscentedflavour · 11/03/2020 21:45

By and large we get through life by assuming everybody else is bonkers and we alone are sane in a mad world.

Aurea · 11/03/2020 21:51

You ought to get your grandma’s ruby ring re modelled.

I’m just about to do this with my GGM’s sapphire and diamond ring. In fact I posted about it the other day.

It’s far too big for my finger in its existing state.

Retired65 · 11/03/2020 22:02

I think that was very rude of your friend. I think your engagement ring is beautiful.

CallmeBadJanet · 11/03/2020 22:09

Where do these people come from? The Fuckwittery Factory? Eye roll, eye roll, eye roll .......

BitOfFun · 11/03/2020 22:29

@Aurea, that is just beautiful!

Motherontheedge1 · 11/03/2020 22:36

Your rings are beautiful. Since I was a little girl the three in a row style has always been my favourite.
Hope your friend realises his rude she’s been and is horrified. If not prepare to hear she prefers her bridesmaid dresses to the ones you had.

Nat6999 · 11/03/2020 22:36

Will she be after one of those massive eternity rings once she is married & a push present when she presents her husband with the first child? Barking mad!

She sounds bat shit crazy 😬

Usernamerequired · 11/03/2020 23:47

Your rings are gorgeous and look just as people expect-a plain wedding band and sparkling engagement ring. Ignore her, her ring is probably from Argos 😂

Usernamerequired · 11/03/2020 23:48

No offence to anyone with jewellery from Argos btw, they do sell lovely stuff

BitOfFun · 11/03/2020 23:51

@Amitskitshaw, you are taking the piss, I presume?
