To not get the fuss about Nando's??

littlemissrose · 15/02/2020 10:23

Went to Nando's for the first time last night after my oldest dd asking to go as she'd heard how good it is...not very impressed I have to say! £40 for a very small wrap and fries two kids meals (chicken in a brioche bun) and a chicken burger and fries and soft drinks. Honestly would've been half the price in McDonalds for very similar food. Restaurant wasn't particularly clean either and it was a bit like having fast food but way more expensive. Am I right or just being an old moan Grin

I think the food is really average and don’t get the hype either. The chips are quite nice with the peri salt on them but everything else is very meh.
If I’m going to a chain place I’d much rather go somewhere like Wagamamas or Five Guys

KnifeAngel · 15/02/2020 10:25

I feel the same. The chicken we had tasted like lemon fairy liquid. The teenagers love it though.

alibongo5 · 15/02/2020 10:26

Nahh you're not wrong. I've been there a couple of times but don't get what's so special. It's neither cheap enough to "do" when you just want something cheap and cheerful nor nice enough to be somewhere to eat out properly.

But then I'm almost certainly not its target audience!

Roozy123 · 15/02/2020 10:26

I agree. Over priced, basic food.

Sparklfairy · 15/02/2020 10:27

YANBU I always call it an overpriced McDonald's Grin minimum service and very expensive for what is essentially chicken and chips.

I do admit to buying the sauces when they're on offer in the supermarket though Blush

Icantfind · 15/02/2020 10:28

So pleased to find this thread. I thought I was on my own!

Overpriced fast food. Bad wine.

Ponoka7 · 15/02/2020 10:29

It's somewhere I want to go to, but won't pay the price.

I'm not impressed by Five Guys or Wagamamas. Our Gourmet burger kitchen is nice and we've just got a nice buttermilk chicken place.

kingkuta · 15/02/2020 10:29

It's just a place teenagers like to go.
It's not supposed to be anything special, it's just a fast food restaurant

TeapotCollection · 15/02/2020 10:29

Totally agree, went once and definitely won’t be going again. We had a combo meal between us and we both said we could have eaten it on our own

ilovedjerrymore · 15/02/2020 10:29

We love Nando’s but have to agree it’s so over priced. My son is 9 and has a adults meal as the kids is so small! Usually comes to just under £30 for both meals and drinks- a lot when you think your only in there half hour as it’s such a quick turn around!
My dad won’t go Nando’s We took him once and he came out still hungry🤣 he couldn’t understand the hype either he had to have another dinner when he got home!
We now do our own ‘Nando’s’ at home easy to do as you can buy Nando’s sauces etc in most supermarkets even peri peri salt!l which I have with most dinners Blush my son loves it and I save a fortune! Win win!

EvilPea · 15/02/2020 10:30

I love the veggie cataplana I add halloumi, it is delicious.
Chargrilled veg, beans and chickpeas in a rich, spicy tomato and coconut sauce, served on spicy rice and sprinkled with toasted coconut shavings.

I don’t think it’s horrifically priced, seems to be the drinks that tip the edge. I do think it’s a place you have to find your thing.

CherryPavlova · 15/02/2020 10:31

It’s fine for a quick bite to eat before or after the cinema but really is very mediocre.

AnneLovesGilbert · 15/02/2020 10:31

It’s grim. I went once, ate a “mushroom burger” which was a soggy field mushroom in a bland bun, some rubbish chips aid a lemonade, queued for ages, paid a fortune for the privilege and god food poisoning. You couldn’t pay me to go back.

TheyDoDoThat · 15/02/2020 10:31

It has a Mac Donald’s style ordering system for double the price. The food is Low quality.

It became popular literally because people used the term ‘cheeky Nando’s’ which in our generation of everything is marketable is all it took to give it some credibility.

Hoik · 15/02/2020 10:32

I hate Nandos. We took the DC after eldest went on and on about it, came to £70 for two adults and three children. The food and the portions were shit - dried out chicken, half a dozen oven chips, the world's tiniest buns - and then you have to pour your own drinks too. DH wanted a dessert and there were no staff to be found anywhere. Bill was slapped onto the table. No thank you's or please's or even so much as a smile the entire time we were there.

I'd much rather go to Wagamama, YoSushi!, or even Pizza Hut.

TheFastandTheCurious · 15/02/2020 10:33

It's ok but too pricey for what it is, the one near me is always jam packed though

AlternativePerspective · 15/02/2020 10:35

It’s nice enough I’m not over or underwhelmed really it’s just an alright place to go. And in truth most burger places are hideously over priced as well.

Compared to the likes of KFC which is revolting and I am amazed are still in business though Nando’s is like heaven on a plate. Grin.

Just one thing though, I bought a bottle of the lemon and herb sauce, what the hell do I do with it?

gluteustothemaximus · 15/02/2020 10:35

Used to love it years ago up London as chicken was amazing, chips and coleslaw were much better.

Now chicken is dry, coleslaw is shit, chips ok. Portions small, quality poor, very overpriced.

LynnSchmob · 15/02/2020 10:35

I just thought it was unbelievably shite but my teenagers loved it.

HopefullyAnonymous · 15/02/2020 10:36

I don’t mind it, but I get 25% discount in there. It’s nothing special and easily recreated at home. The kids enjoy it though so we do go now and then.

Belledan1 · 15/02/2020 10:36

I agree. Over priced. Taking DS 12 on wednesday as day off work. I am going to have cheapest thing possible like a chicken pitta. last time i had quarter chicken and rice. It was a small leg hardly any meat on it. Ds loves it.DH came the time beforeand we shared a chicken. Came 40.00 with drinks and DS food.

Hoik · 15/02/2020 10:37

Just one thing though, I bought a bottle of the lemon and herb sauce, what the hell do I do with it?

I'd recommend binning it, it tastes like kitchen spray Grin

Jeleste · 15/02/2020 10:38

Very overpriced for the quality of the food which is somewhere between meh and eww.
Only been once, never again. I did go with a group of people and tried a variety of their things. Nothing impressed me.

alibongo5 · 15/02/2020 10:38

"There was sommat on my plate last night, the food was shite at Nando's". (to the tune of Fernando)

I love the Doonicans!

Mrsjayy · 15/02/2020 10:41

We got a Nandos 5ish years ago you would think folk had found the holy grail Grin it is so meh although i do like the chicken thighs but i go mild Blush
