To not get the fuss about Nando's??

littlemissrose · 15/02/2020 10:23

Went to Nando's for the first time last night after my oldest dd asking to go as she'd heard how good it is...not very impressed I have to say! £40 for a very small wrap and fries two kids meals (chicken in a brioche bun) and a chicken burger and fries and soft drinks. Honestly would've been half the price in McDonalds for very similar food. Restaurant wasn't particularly clean either and it was a bit like having fast food but way more expensive. Am I right or just being an old moan Grin

@Iwouldlikesomecake you’re saying it’s rarely more than £10 so you’re obviously just paying for yourself. The difference is when you’re feeding a small family and it comes to over £50 by the time you’ve added drinks, for basically mediocre food.

Most things are cheap when you’re only feeding one person. That’s why teens like places like this, because they feel like they’re going “out for a meal” and getting change from a tenner. When one person is paying for 4 or 5 people though, you want better value for money.

AJPTaylor · 15/02/2020 11:21

I think it's fine. A tenner or so for a meal. Can order individually. Food fits most diets and is good for gluten free. Get to sit and chat with friends. No faff with paying at the end so ideal if you need to be somewhere.
There is a market for it.

hairypear1234 · 15/02/2020 11:23

I love their peri peri chicken wings with the medium sauce. Wherever I go, they're never as good as Nandos.

PhoneTwattery · 15/02/2020 11:25

I don’t get it either. However, I do have mini orgasms in a Harvester so I may not be the best barometer...

Roussette · 15/02/2020 11:25

I've been twice and it was two times too many. What on earth is the attraction? The chicken is dry, the portion of coleslaw is miniscule (I make far far better coleslaw) and the chips taste like the cheapest oven chips. And it's expensive!

There's a place we go that has rotisserie chicken going round on the spit and it is so so succulent served with divine chips and half the price of Nandos.

I can honestly say I will ever go into a Nandos again, I've given it two chances Grin

PinkShinyFlowers · 15/02/2020 11:26

Agree, we went once, we had to be told, what you do to get sauces, drinks, pay etc.
Food was expensive and poor. Dry chicken and fries, I was very disappointed.
KFC is much nicer to be honest, but sitting in KFC is horrible, due to the other customers quite often.

catlady3 · 15/02/2020 11:28

It's not great but I do like their mayo and rubs you can buy in the supermarket. Use them to make my own nandos with nicer ingredients, yummy!

katewhinesalot · 15/02/2020 11:28

I quite like it Blush

loutypips · 15/02/2020 11:29

I love chicken, so Nando's is good for me.
I agree that it's overpriced for some of the food, but they do a whole chicken, two drinks and two sides for £20 which is good value.
I don't get the kids meals as my daughter eats more chicken than that so we share the full one.

Whitelisbon · 15/02/2020 11:34

I'm not a huge fan, but ds has multiple food allergies, and it's the only place we've ever found where he gets a choice! Luckily, it's an hours drive to the nearest one, or he'd want to go all the time. It's an occasional treat for him now, we'll be going for his birthday in a few weeks, and he's excited already.

Solo · 15/02/2020 11:34

I've been once with a friend about 10 years ago who really loved it and wanted me to try it as a treat for my birthday. 1/4 chicken and lemon rice...the entire meal was dried out. Absolute crap IMHO and I've never been back.

Catsandchardonnay · 15/02/2020 11:36

Generally shit. Beige food. And a dump. The halloumi and mushroom wrap is nice though.

Heihei · 15/02/2020 11:37

I’ve visited a couple and find the food pretty poor quality. Dry, overcooked chicken, microwaved rice etc. But I can understand why teens love it because it’s like a halfway house between Maccies and a restaurant. Bit like Pizza Hut, Frankie and Benny’s, Ask and the like.

MsTSwift · 15/02/2020 11:37

We tried to go it was full so went to mission burrito in the end which was lovely way cheaper and much better veggie options would go back there

Thinkle · 15/02/2020 11:39

20% off with an NHS ID helps me like it

Floralnomad · 15/02/2020 11:39

It’s expensive for what it is but it’s way better than KFC and they cater for GF

SusanneLinder · 15/02/2020 11:45

I am glad that my daughter is no longer a teenager and has grown out of Nando's. Took her and her friends once for her birthday and we had no change out of £100. And it was shite! Don't mind spending money on food if it's decent quality, but it was awful.
Won't go back!

YessicaHaircut · 15/02/2020 11:45

@alibongo5 I thought of that song too, love love LOVE the Doonicans! We’re going to see a Scott solo show in 2 weeks and I can’t wait!

Vulpine · 15/02/2020 11:47

Nandos rocks. My dh has a loyalty card and he's no teenager

Thinkingabout1t · 15/02/2020 11:48

I hate all those cheap chicken places fuelling the demand for meat produced in the worst conditions. Unnecessary cruelty to animals to increase company profits.

Littlemissdaredevil · 15/02/2020 11:49

Nandos is basically posh KFC. We normally go for a full platter which is a chicken with 4 sides then pay for drinks on top for under £30

Longdistance · 15/02/2020 11:49

It’s just chicken and chips with coleslaw. How far can you drag that out?
Don’t get me started on TGI Fridays. Never had a good meal in there. I’ve been to few in different locations around the country, always arrives cold especially the fries, bloody soggy.

woodchuck99 · 15/02/2020 11:52

Teenagers seem to love it. I don't know why really but one thing I do like is that it's easy to have smaller portions. In other restaurants you tend to get large portions whether you like it and not have to pay for them too. I feel that I'm subsidising men's huge appetites .My guess is that many teenage girls like it for the same reason. Many have quite small appetites.

ComeTheFuck0nBridget · 15/02/2020 11:52

I like it. DH and I go fairly regularly if we don't fancy cooking but want something healthier than a takeaway, we usually get a boneless platter with rice and brocolli or salad, and DH has chips

thecatsthecats · 15/02/2020 11:52

Average food that gave me the worst food poisoning of my life. Tried to report them to environmental health but was too unwell to provide a, um, sample.

I was ill on and off for six weeks.
