To not get the fuss about Nando's??

littlemissrose · 15/02/2020 10:23

Went to Nando's for the first time last night after my oldest dd asking to go as she'd heard how good it is...not very impressed I have to say! £40 for a very small wrap and fries two kids meals (chicken in a brioche bun) and a chicken burger and fries and soft drinks. Honestly would've been half the price in McDonalds for very similar food. Restaurant wasn't particularly clean either and it was a bit like having fast food but way more expensive. Am I right or just being an old moan Grin

I think it depends what you order, I havent been for years but we used to go a lot at uni as there was a 25% discount for students. Typical order would either be half a chicken, chips and garlic bread (so didn't have to eat for the rest of the day) and just a tap water as not keen on fizzy drinks anyway; or the churusco burger with chips and peas- both were around £8ish I think, definitely not more than a tenner, and loads of food. The wraps and butterfly chicken etc are the worst in terms of value in my opinion. I like it, but now they do the home kits I grab them when on offer, and the peri peri salt and do it at home. I like the atmosphere in them though, just that I don't go out much anymore haha.

recrudescence · 15/02/2020 10:48

Have been a few times and like the chicken but it’s not great vfm. Agree that it’s overhyped.

MamaGee09 · 15/02/2020 10:50

I’ve never been!

Bubblemonkey · 15/02/2020 10:51

NHS discount 👌🏻👌🏻

totallyradllama · 15/02/2020 10:51

Depends what you order... if you get a wrap it is going to be like an m and s sandwich

I would recommend quarter chicken, creamy mash and macho peas with medium sauce...

TheGreatWave · 15/02/2020 10:53

I have never been. It seems that I am not missing out on much.

userabcname · 15/02/2020 10:54

I've only been twice and both times got the most horrendous heartburn so I avoid it now!

iStruggleWithThePast · 15/02/2020 10:55

I dont think its all its cracked up to be

Theres on being built near us and DP is really excited for it Confused

He'll want to start going there for our date nights as its literally gonna be round the corner Sad

goldenorbspider · 15/02/2020 10:57

Nah not a fan, I think once you've had over night marinated chicken, Nando's is just awful

Mrsjayy · 15/02/2020 10:58

My dd also gets a discount through her work and we will go if we are going to the cinema which is near but i wouldn't go out of my way to go,

LorenzoStDubois · 15/02/2020 10:58

Its overrated.
And the chips there really are a let down.

Mrsjayy · 15/02/2020 11:01

Hopefully he will get fed up ofit quickly istrugglewiththepast they do a decent wrap

stuckinthemiddlewithtwats · 15/02/2020 11:02

I avoided it for years as assumed it was exactly as you said. But, we do like it as it's easy to get very plain food there and quickly with no fuss. Plus my DP gets discount so makes it a bit cheaper.
Can't understand why anyone would be forking out for wine with a cheap chicken and chips meal tho Confused

We don't have a Nando's where we live so it's only an occasional visit for us anyway.

Iwouldlikesomecake · 15/02/2020 11:02

Honestly? I don’t understand people saying ‘I was still hungry’. I can eat a wrap and one side and a portion of halloumi and that’s a bit too much really. I am an eater, I am not one of these people who eats two lettuce leaves and proclaims they are full Hmm

I also get a discount. But even without, my meal is rarely more than £10. We go often because we really like the food at our local one, now Five Guys I don’t rate because their food is all so greasy. Grease dripping off everything.

I do think it is branch variable though, I like McDonald’s every now and then but the one opposite my house is revolting and I’ve never had a good burger from there!

PettyContractor · 15/02/2020 11:03

Two adults and nine-year-old child, spend £25, and it's more than we can eat, we take the extra home. Both adult fairly big eaters.

We order a meal platter and an extra soft drink. The chicken we get in different flavours so the adults get a spicier meal.

I think the people up-thread are mostly ordering the wrong things. Nando's is a chicken and fries place, that's added some extra things to server a wider audience. Stick to their mainstream offering and you might be more impressed. (Assuming you like delicious marinaded grilled chicken and peri-peri salt on fries.)

(A "meal platter" is a meal for 2, a whole chicken, with two portions of fries. That should be enough chicken for most families, you might need extra fries.)

NoSauce · 15/02/2020 11:04

Every one I’ve been in has been dirty.

Fink · 15/02/2020 11:04

It's awful. The chicken is really dry and overcooked. The sauces aren't anything special. The sides are pretty dire. And it's not as cheap as other rubbish places. Even the teenagers around here don't rate it, they prefer fried chicken places.

On the plus side, they donate a lot of chicken to the soup kitchen I volunteer in, so at least they don't waste food. Although I can see why they've got a lot left over.

Legallybleachblonde · 15/02/2020 11:06

Over-priced and I dont get the hype. The one where I live is always packed so they must be doing something right 🤷🏼‍♀️

SW16 · 15/02/2020 11:08

What fuss and hype?

It’s just a place some people go and others don’t. I don’t see any fuss or hype Confused

I don’t like it, but it is better than McD as a place to sit in and have a meal, you get plates and cutlery for a start. And actual chicken. And it is cheaper than Wagamama etc.

Teens like it because it is a sit down restaurant but you can order and pay individually.

It’s just one of many high st chain choices.

And way better than Frankie and Benny. The true pits!

seven8nine · 15/02/2020 11:10

I agree I don’t get the fuss either, my 13 yo and friends love Nando’s!

EL8888 · 15/02/2020 11:10

Back when l started going there 2003/2004 they had better sized portions and were less expensive. It’s nice enough these days but nothing special plus expensive

EL8888 · 15/02/2020 11:12

@Fink l didn’t know they did that. It’s a great thing for them to do

ItsAllTheDramaMickIJustLoveIt · 15/02/2020 11:12

I don’t see the fuss either. I’d rather go kfc and I don’t even like kfc much either.

TheReluctantCountess · 15/02/2020 11:12

I’ve been twice and I don’t rate it.

LakieLady · 15/02/2020 11:15

I've never been in one. I've walked past the one in Brighton many times, though, and the smell is really rank.
