To not get the fuss about Nando's??

Went to Nando's for the first time last night after my oldest dd asking to go as she'd heard how good it is...not very impressed I have to say! £40 for a very small wrap and fries two kids meals (chicken in a brioche bun) and a chicken burger and fries and soft drinks. Honestly would've been half the price in McDonalds for very similar food. Restaurant wasn't particularly clean either and it was a bit like having fast food but way more expensive. Am I right or just being an old moan Grin

You take your own glasses and fill your own drinks, get you own cutlery, napkins, get your own sauces.

I don’t find any of that onerous in any way. It’s actually pretty enjoyable. What I don’t want to do is wait in a queue for food. And I don’t have to.

I’ve no idea why people find a slightly different service model so objectionable, but hey ho.

It is a fast food chicken restaurant.

Once again, does your local chicken place do this stuff

macho peas, olives, sweet potato fries, ratatouille, roast butternut squash, reasonable salads and wine myself.

If so, please tell me where you live?

Poohpooh · 16/02/2020 17:30

you u take your own glasses and fill your own drinks, get you own cutlery, napkins, get your own sauces. All they do is put you plate on the table.

You do that a lot of buffet restaurants and places like Vagabondos. Doesn’t make them fast food places.

SisterAgatha · 16/02/2020 17:32

Yeah I’ve never seen salads or peas at a Chick King Grin

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 16/02/2020 17:35

Ds and his friends love it

I like it but it’s not that exciting. Prefer kfc Blush

I use my nhs discount Wink

Poohpooh · 16/02/2020 17:37

I’m guessing some of the hate stems from jealousy at the billions made from a very simple proposition. Chicken is one of the cheapest meats and the profit margins must be great. I wish I had thought of it Grin

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 16/02/2020 17:37

Kfc now have different salads and rice, corn on the cob, beans and a vegan burger

They need to set up some of their restaurants like Nando’s I’m sure they would do well

LaurieMarlow · 16/02/2020 17:38

Also I can linger as long as I like over my meal in Nandos, with a glass (or two) of wine, which is not remotely like any chicken and chips fast food place I’ve ever been to.

SisterAgatha · 16/02/2020 17:39

It’s not even that expensive anyway. Look at the difference compared to favourite chicken and at Nando’s you get vegtables and a plate and cutlery, and somewhere warm to sit where you won’t get mugged unlike our local chicken shops, and someone to clean up after you.

Where I live Nando's isn't self service and my family enjoy eating there when they visit but they'd never eat in Nando's in the UK.

Nanamilly · 16/02/2020 17:42

Or perhaps that should be they'd never eat in their local Nando's.

Absolutely Poohpooh

Poohpooh · 16/02/2020 17:48

@IHaveBrilloHair well, nearly all of your posts have had the Confused face so maybe you’re right.

IHaveBrilloHair · 16/02/2020 17:55

Ah, yes, of all of my three posts, two did have that Emoji.
Anyway, I'll stick with restaurants that I believe are good value for money, and Nandos is not one of them.

Dragonhag · 16/02/2020 18:01

You can buy a spatchcock of chicken peri-peri or garlic & lemon from Lidl or Aldi, in a foil tray you just bang in the oven, (the Aldi one is noticeably hotter) for under £4. Nando’s is noisy, overpriced, and short on choices, IMO. Eating out is a treat, and expensive for most; better to go somewhere that offers a good dining experience.

This made me genuinely laugh.

I’m obviously jealous too esp as Nandos has olives - fancy that. That makes paying highly inflated prices to dine out in a shopping centre completely worthwhile.

Lidi sell sweet potatoes fries and olives too. Fancy food indeed 😀

MereDintofPandiculation · 16/02/2020 18:05

It seems to me a lotof people are going to Nandos to buy the sort of food they'd get in MacDonalds and then complaining that it's not as cheap as McDonalds. Why not go to Nandos for food that you can't get at MacDonalds?

Poohpooh · 16/02/2020 18:09

People, my post was tongue-in-cheek. It seems some people didn’t understand Smile

LaurieMarlow · 16/02/2020 18:20

Which was pointed out to demonstrate that no it’s not the same as a chicken fast food place.

Though still waiting to hear names of chicken shops with similar menus.

As for the Lidl/ALDI points well yes obviously food in supermarkets exists and is cheaper. Confused.

Auridon4life · 16/02/2020 18:28

Went to Bella Italia and was very impressed with their set menu £15.99 for three courses. Very nice pasta and lovely garlic dough balls

takeyourrubbishhome · 16/02/2020 18:31

Nando’s is great but I would only ever order chicken on the bone. The wraps etc are just disappointing. It’s definitely not equivalent to McD’s but is a good place to take kids for a quick/reliable meal.

Lippy1234 · 16/02/2020 18:37

I order the Mediterranean salad with halloumi and avocado and it is nothing like McDonald’s.

MrsMGE · 16/02/2020 18:46

OP, I'm so with you. Never got the hype.

I feel the same about most chains and therefore tend to avoid them.
