To not get the fuss about Nando's??

Went to Nando's for the first time last night after my oldest dd asking to go as she'd heard how good it is...not very impressed I have to say! £40 for a very small wrap and fries two kids meals (chicken in a brioche bun) and a chicken burger and fries and soft drinks. Honestly would've been half the price in McDonalds for very similar food. Restaurant wasn't particularly clean either and it was a bit like having fast food but way more expensive. Am I right or just being an old moan Grin

I remember going to a local one about 16 years ago when it must have been quite a new chain about town. I thought it was refreshingly simple and family-friendly. Now I'm chickened out!

malmi · 16/02/2020 12:04

Nowhere else has spicy enough sauce. The extra hot one in the little black bottle really hits the mark. The other spicy one called vuvuzela or something is also good.

KatherineJaneway · 16/02/2020 15:35

Once you’ve had real chicken piri piri in The Algarve, you realise what utter Shite Nandos is.

Not been and no chance to go anytime soon. Any UK alternatives?

Patroclus · 16/02/2020 16:31

Sorry to any portugese, but Portugese food is dissapointing AF when you're expecting it to be like spanish.

Wannabangbang · 16/02/2020 16:33

Feel exactly the same, overpriced for what you can make simply at home. You can even buy the sauces from the supermarket. I don't get why people rave about it, for that sort of money i can go somewhere else with good quality nosh

user1471449295 · 16/02/2020 16:39

It’s just a posh macdonalds. Teens like it, but it is over priced. I am partial to their Fino Pitta though

Ylvamoon · 16/02/2020 16:40

I went once and really didn't get it!
I mean, some mediocre chicken in a bun with chips that you then season yourself? Meeh not for me either. Friends i went with thought it's a brilliant concept.

lollybee1 · 16/02/2020 16:42

No way can you compare nandos to McDonalds. Love nandos. McDonalds is disgusting.

PattiPrice · 16/02/2020 16:52

I don’t rate it either. It’s one of those ‘shopping centre’ chicken and chips fast food places but with inflated prices for some reason.

Johnny Rockets is far better imo.

TooOldForSims · 16/02/2020 16:57

Their hummus with peri drizzle is divine. I can't eat hummus from anywhere else now because I always end up thinking about the one from Nando's.

TellySavalashairbrush · 16/02/2020 16:58

YANBU totally overpriced and very mediocre as is Wagamama in my opinion.

TooOldForSims · 16/02/2020 16:59

Their wild herb sauce is amazing too but they don't sell that one in supermarkets Sad.

LaurieMarlow · 16/02/2020 17:03

The lack of appreciation on here is sad. Grin

It’s great for children, great for groups.

Good range of more interesting and healthier sides (love the macho peas)

It has wine

Lovely snacky stuff (nuts, olives, custard tarts)

Good for veggies

It’s equivalent to Giraffe/Pizza Express/ Wagamama types places. Step up from fast food. Hardly haute cuisine. Good option for casual eating.

I’m a fan.

LaurieMarlow · 16/02/2020 17:05

I don’t see how it’s overpriced compared to other waiter service restaurants.

The business model is different to maccieDs and naturally costs more.

SisterAgatha · 16/02/2020 17:06

People call it fast food because they have to queue and pay first. But otherwise it’s not, the salads are really nice and the kids always eat it so for me, it’s worth the money and a nice informal dinner out.

IHaveBrilloHair · 16/02/2020 17:07

It's not proper waiter service though is it?Confused

LaurieMarlow · 16/02/2020 17:09

Okay then half and half. You order/pay at the till. Then it’s waiter service as usual.

Paying upfront is so god damn sensible for groups I wonder why other places don’t adopt that.

PattiPrice · 16/02/2020 17:09

It’s equivalent to Giraffe/Pizza Express/ Wagamama types places. Step up from fast food.

I disagree with both of the above sentences.

Pizza Express/Wagamamas are better.

Nando’s is a glorified chicken and chips fast food place.

TooOldForSims · 16/02/2020 17:11

and then you have to pour your own drinks too.

Their refillable though.

DH wanted a dessert and there were no staff to be found anywhere.
Bill was slapped onto the table.

You pay when you order at the till so the bill being slapped down doesn't make sense.

If you want dessert or to add anything to your order you need to queue at the till again.

TooOldForSims · 16/02/2020 17:13

*They're.

And bit of a bold fail there Blush.

LaurieMarlow · 16/02/2020 17:14

Nando’s is a glorified chicken and chips fast food place.

Well I’ve never come across a chicken and chip fast food place that offered things like macho peas, olives, sweet potato fries, ratatouille, roast butternut squash, reasonable salads and wine myself.

Where do you live?

Poohpooh · 16/02/2020 17:20

Don’t get all the hate really. I’ve never liked Pizza Express but haven’t needed to piss all over it. It’s like people are annoyed that Nandos is popular.

Survey99 · 16/02/2020 17:25

Okay then half and half. You order/pay at the till. Then it’s waiter service as usual.

You take your own glasses and fill your own drinks, get you own cutlery, napkins, get your own sauces. All they do is put you plate on the table.

It is a fast food chicken restaurant.

SisterAgatha · 16/02/2020 17:27

You do your own refills at a Toby Carvery and a Harvester too. They aren’t fast food. That’s not the definition of fast food

CottonSock · 16/02/2020 17:27

I prefer MacDonalds. Nandos is so overpriced. Wish MacDonalds would do some vegetables though. Corn and the cob would go down a treat. And maybe some rice options instead of chips! I guess I'm not the market customer for either place.
