To not get the fuss about Nando's??

littlemissrose · 15/02/2020 10:23

Went to Nando's for the first time last night after my oldest dd asking to go as she'd heard how good it is...not very impressed I have to say! £40 for a very small wrap and fries two kids meals (chicken in a brioche bun) and a chicken burger and fries and soft drinks. Honestly would've been half the price in McDonalds for very similar food. Restaurant wasn't particularly clean either and it was a bit like having fast food but way more expensive. Am I right or just being an old moan Grin

@Mushypeasandchipstogo

YANBU. Nando’s is overpriced shite. Even my teenager refuses to go there with his friends it’s that bad. Also don’t they use Halal chicken- that would put me off for a start!

No, they don’t all use halal chicken. Bet you still rock up to your local Indian restaurant which probably does serve halal meat.

Jog on.

redwoodmazza · 15/02/2020 13:06

I don't get it either.
I went once with my grown up son. Never again.

MiniTheMinx · 15/02/2020 13:11

I've never been in one. Chicken is easy enough to cook, mostly boring when its already part of your weekly diet because it's cheap, cheerful, and versatile. If I'm going to eat out I want to eat food I cant myself cook, or food cooked to a higher standard. Usually fish, because I'm useless at cooking fish, it's a treat to eat food I wouldn't normally eat.

Mrsjayy · 15/02/2020 13:12

I have this same conversation with my DD27. She raves about it and I'm like 'But it's just chicken and chips!' 🤷‍♀️ I don't get the hype?

My dds are in their 20s and they also rave about it maybe it is just us Confused

Bagofoldbones · 15/02/2020 13:13

Who the fuck goes to Nando’s for a wrap or a burger?

You ordered the wrong thing.

Wings or thighs all the way !

KatherineJaneway · 15/02/2020 13:18

I do admit to buying the sauces when they're on offer in the supermarket though Blush

I've never been to their restaurants but do buy their Hot sauce as it is lovely.

I'm not impressed by Five Guys or Wagamamas.

I like Wagamamas but go rarely. My colleague did tell me I had to 'do Five Guys' once and it took a moment for her to cotton on as to why why the rest of the team were laughing.

JudgeRindersMinder · 15/02/2020 13:22

I’ve been to Nando’s a fee times with my teen, I’d certainly rather have that than McDonald’s but it’s not brilliant, and expensive for what it is

maddiemookins16mum · 15/02/2020 13:32

Once you’ve had real chicken piri piri in The Algarve, you realise what utter Shite Nandos is.

Doodlepip1 · 15/02/2020 13:34

Leon all the way

Bagofoldbones · 15/02/2020 13:38

Love Leon

WooMaWang · 15/02/2020 14:02

Nando's is great if you're trying to feed fussy children with coeliac disease in a shopping centre.

I agree with @MimiLaRue: I'm not sure that anyone sees it as anything more than a fairly convenient high street chain restaurant. It's just chicken and chips; nothing to get excited about.

mypoorfurbaby · 15/02/2020 14:20

It's a safe place for my daughter to eat with gluten and dairy allergy. She knows what she can have, doesn't have to adapt or compromise her order. But it is pricey

alibongo5 · 15/02/2020 14:25

Ah yes, Leon! Love that when I'm passing through Brum New Street Station.

Mushypeasandchipstogo · 15/02/2020 15:12

@Poohpooh. Happy to be proved wrong if they don’t but nobody could tell me the one time I went there. Also no, I don’t eat Indian from the local takeaway or restaurant for exactly the same reason!

IHaveBrilloHair · 15/02/2020 15:19

I asked my 18yr old Dd and she said, "eh, have you seen the price of it"?
They'd rather have a KFC bargain bucket for chicken, or eat out at the ramen places.
It's overpriced for what it is and not even a proper restaurant where you get servedConfused

Mushypeasandchipstogo · 15/02/2020 15:25

@Poohpooh. Just Googled and you are incorrect. The local Nando’s now ONLY serves Halal and the others serve a proportion which is.

safariboot · 15/02/2020 15:27

Nor me. I like Nando's, but if there's a queue stretching out the door I'll go somewhere else. And yet many Nandoses do routinely have stupidly long queues. They've somehow managed to create the same kind of cult following that Apple have, when really they're not that much different to their competition.

Figgygal · 15/02/2020 15:28

My husband likes it as he’s a coeliac and it’s a pretty safe option for him, the kids like the frozen yoghurt but I’m not a fan I always have a beanie burger or wrap which are nice enough

BrokenWing · 15/02/2020 15:36

I think it's OK for what it is, fast food. We have butterfly chicken hot, with peri chips and coleslaw and it is nice. I've tried the chicken thighs and like them too, they are a bit more charred, but ds isn't as keen.

It is also too expensive, the drinks are watery and flat, the garlic bread is too dense/chewy/flavourless, the same type of bread is used on their burgers.

blue25 · 15/02/2020 15:55

There’s always a queue outside the one near us. It’s baffling. The food is crap.

SisterAgatha · 15/02/2020 15:58

We go a lot. I love it. Although I often do a home Nando’s with the supermarket spices nowadays. It’s not just for teenagers, we’ve all been going since I was in my early 20’s!

littlemissrose · 15/02/2020 16:29

Looks like I'm not alone! Maybe I did order the wrong thing but I was hungry and wasn't sure how much there would be in the wings etc...my wrap was teeny though

OP posts:
BanKittenHeels · 15/02/2020 16:32

It’s a shit tip and the food is awful but for some reason teens are obsessed by it.

swimlyn · 15/02/2020 17:02

Once you’ve had real chicken piri piri in The Algarve, you realise what utter Shite Nandos is. How true! Grin

They've somehow managed to create the same kind of cult following that Apple have…

It’s a (chicken) supreme example of how affluenza has taken a firm grip on the UK.

They started off many years ago with better quality at lower prices. Vote with your feet!

Getoffmylilo · 15/02/2020 17:04

Also went for the first time recently - I don't get it at all!
