Where did you go on your honeymoon?

DP and I are getting married in September and need to start planning our honeymoon. Where did you go and did you enjoy it? We are very open to all sorts of ideas from places in Europe to more long haul destinations. We aren’t so keen on city breaks and prefer being a bit off the beaten track (we’ll hire a car wherever we go).
We’ll also have a long weekend somewhere in the UK.

Iceland - 25 years ago before it was popular. We hired a car a drove round the whole island - It was amazing.

A week in a caravan in Brid

Santorini! DH booked it as a surprise. DS was still young and I didn't want to be away from him for too long and didn't want to be too far away! It was magical. BUT, if before DS or he was older it would definitely have been Maldives.

July 1975.
5 days camping in St. Malo.
Ferry/walking with tent etc. in rucksacks.
Pissed it down the minute we left England till the day we left France.
Never camped before or since. < shudders at the thought of it >
Good bonding experience,though.We're still together 45 years later.

Porto santo- a small island near madeira.

Drove down the Pacific coast from San Francisco to Los Angeles. Took three weeks, stayed in all kinds of places from swanky city hotels to treehouses. Incredible, unforgettable trip. which cost way more than our wedding

Mexico and Hawaii. Both incredible.

We flew to New York for a few days and then did a Caribbean cruise from there. Those were the days!

St Lucia - Sandals Resort

Budget is around 4K

Tioman Island in Malaysia. This was 10 years ago now.. but it was so beautiful and stunning and remote. Just total peace. We took the final week in Singapore which was also wonderful. I dream of doing it again!

Would highly recommend Sri Lanka. Amazing varied landscapes. Great wildlife and food. Although flights expensive can cut costs whilst there in terms of accommodation and food if necessary.

New Zealand. Travelled around for just over five weeks, three weeks in a campervan and two weeks (one week each end) staying with friends. It was the best time of our lives, it’s the most incredible country.

We want to elope in the Bahamas and have that as our honeymoon at the same time
