Where did you go on your honeymoon?

DP and I are getting married in September and need to start planning our honeymoon. Where did you go and did you enjoy it? We are very open to all sorts of ideas from places in Europe to more long haul destinations. We aren’t so keen on city breaks and prefer being a bit off the beaten track (we’ll hire a car wherever we go).
We’ll also have a long weekend somewhere in the UK.
Thanks

Two weeks in Costa Rica with a couple of nights in Miami at the start. It was amazing.

peonylane · 10/02/2020 21:29

Bonaire which is the most beautiful and unspoilt Caribbean island.
A true paradise

SparkyTheCat · 10/02/2020 21:32

Istanbul.

We travelled round America for 3.5 months and went too:
Vegas - LA - San Francisco - Honolulu - Dallas - Memphis - Miami - Disney - Chicago - Philadelphia - Washington DC - Niagara - Boston - NYC

Would recommend almost all of these!

Let us know what you decide on Smile

Belize. Amazing food and great diving.

BillyAndTheSillies · 10/02/2020 22:09

3 days in Singapore and 10 days in Cebu in the Philippines. It was amazing. Desperate to see more of the Philippines but saving that for a time I can brave a 12 hour flight with two children.

oldfashionedtastingtea · 10/02/2020 22:09

London! I'm not from/ in the UK though so for me that was a European destination Grin

oldfashionedtastingtea · 10/02/2020 22:11

If you have the tiMe and money I'd like to suggest Tasmania. The weather will turn to spring, it has lovely nature and isn't on the beaten track.

hadenough · 10/02/2020 22:12

Did a whole trip around SE Asia. Including Bali, Thailand and Vietnam. Was amazing.

eatsleepmoverepeat · 10/02/2020 22:17

Another one who did Vegas and California. Best holiday ever and we’re saving up to do it again

PoirotAndHisMoustache · 10/02/2020 22:17

We are going to Namibia for ours end of April

Week in Cornwall, where we got married. Stayed at ‘home’ in my parents’ house as they went away. Would love to have afforded somewhere hot and exotic, still haven’t left the country 15yrs later.

Amsterdam - my parents booked it for us as a surprise. DH was way too square though and refused to entertain the idea of a coffee shop...

I would recommend Cape Town. Great location, lots to do, fab weather and friendly people. And cheap when you are there (although quite pricey to book). You can eat at a different place every night and never be bored, for about £9 a head including drinks.

OverByYer · 10/02/2020 22:21

Kenya on safari. Was amazing

notangelinajolie · 10/02/2020 22:25

South Africa. Breathtaking and truly magical.

TeensArghhhh · 10/02/2020 22:29

We did a Caribbean Cruise for our honeymoon. It was stunning! DH has just booked another Caribbean Cruise for our 30th anniversary next year

Daisy169 · 10/02/2020 22:31

We toured Sri Lanka with our own driver for around 6k over Christmas for 2 weeks. Amazing people, amazing country.
Could probably get that a lot cheaper not in school holidays.

ContinuityError · 10/02/2020 22:32

Nevada / California / Oregon. Bit arse about face though as we did the honeymoon before the wedding (got married in San Francisco at the end of the trip - binned Vegas as too tacky and binned Lake Tahoe as the weather was closing in).

Twiglets18 · 10/02/2020 22:38

6 nights in Sri Lanka travelling round, we didn’t drive as the roads are crazy but had a driver for the entire time! Sounds like a massive luxury but it’s a very common way to explore the island.,I just loved it, the scenery, the spirituality and the food was amazing!!

Then we went onto the Maldives for 7 nights to chill which was mind blowing beautiful, but very expensive.

Would do both again in a heartbeat.

It depends when you want to go as well if you’re fixed then you’ll be very much determined by the weather if not then the world is literally your oyster.

Also did a very lovely trip for our 10th wedding anniversary which would make a lovely honeymoon - Eurostar to Paris, 2 nights there then got the TGV train down to Aix and spent 7 nights exploring Provence in a hire car. That was magical.

Twiglets18 · 10/02/2020 22:41

Sorry totally hijacking, @Alsohuman which hotel, looking for somewhere nice to stay in that neck of the woods this year. TIA

FairyBunnyAgain · 10/02/2020 22:43

Caribbean which was pretty unimaginative for the 1990s, all inclusive couples resort for 2 weeks were the only time we and all the other honeymooners were let out was organised trips. Put me off all inclusive for life.

Since then we have had some wonderful family and couples trips around the world, each one with its own merits.

I would recommend Costa Rica

Megan2018 · 10/02/2020 22:45

Road trip around Europe for 3 weeks-we love driving and hate traditional holidays. We did Germany, Austria, Italy and Switzerland mainly (but also drove through others). It was bloody amazing.

Twiglets18 · 10/02/2020 22:48

I see a few people have mentioned Cuba and Havana definitely one to consider it’s probably in my top 5. Ideal holiday if you want to combine a bit of adventure with some beaching. Havana is indeed very special.

PenelopePeachStone · 10/02/2020 22:50

We got married in Skiathos and once we’d waved the families off we went to Alonissos and stayed in a cottage in the hills overlooking Kali Skala... saw wild dolphins for the first time on the ferry across xx

TattiePants · 10/02/2020 22:51

We travelled around South Africa for 2 weeks - Cape Town, wine region, garden route and safari - then 1 week in Mauritius. We did want to go to Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia but we got married in September and it was the wrong time of year.
