To have one bra?

MumApr18 · 01/02/2020 13:25

So this has never occurred to me as strange, but it has just been pointed out to me that I might not have this right!

I have one bra which fits. I wear it a couple of days, wash while I'm in the house and don't need to wearing it, and then it goes straight back on again. Is that unreasonable? I have gym bralette type things but day to day, the one bra has never failed me....

Who are these adult women that have drawers full of different shapes/sizes of bras that they all wear regularly? My weight fluctuates so I would be spending a fortune if I splashed out on a new bra wardrobe every time I needed one!

I don't have drawers and drawers full of them, but I definitely need more than one! Who wants to be washing every day or even every other day and then waiting for it to dry? I need at least a week's worth, and ideally two weeks, to cope with my slovenly laundry habits.

Curiosity101 · 01/02/2020 13:29

It's definitely not unreasonable but I couldn't be doing with the faff of having to launder a bra so quickly to enable me to wear it again.

I have a few in a couple of sizes (to allow for fluctuations in weight). Also I need different styles sometimes eg. strapless for certain outfits. Plus I have different styles and colours to give me choice. I probably have around 12 or so in total.

I guess I see them as no different than any other clothes? I wouldn't have a wardrobe full of tops that were all the same, or a wardrobe full of trousers all the same.

@bridgetreilly Ha, I do see your point but unfortunately I am a slave to mucky toddlers so always have space in the wash!

I’m sorry.....you WHAT now....?

I feel faint.

BlueJava · 01/02/2020 13:32

I have 7, one for each day of the week. I'd find it impossible to keep doing the washing of 1 on a daily basis.

I'm still in nursing bras so only have three. They're so expensive (very large boobs) so three will do. Even before I still only had a few. Mostly just dark that I prefer and skin color for when I needed it. Never understood the 20,000 different varieties approach.

ManiacalLapwing · 01/02/2020 13:35

I have two the same in black and nude. I could get by with one if I washed it at night when it needed washing, so it would be dry by morning. I prefer to have two though.

ZaraW · 01/02/2020 13:36

It doesn't have to be all or nothing. One isn't great. I have four and two sports bras foe yoga and running.

Mummyneedsacoffee · 01/02/2020 13:36

I personally couldn’t cope with just one... out of interest what colour is it? I like to have several colours/shapes to suit clothing.Smile

TheThingWithFeathers · 01/02/2020 13:37

I've got lots of bras but wear the same two all the time. I don't think I would manage with just one though.

Roominmyhouse · 01/02/2020 13:39

I once read somewhere you shouldn’t wear the same bra two days in a row as the elastic needs to rest and alternating makes them last longer. No idea if it’s true!

ManiacalLapwing · 01/02/2020 13:39

I'd find it impossible to keep doing the washing of 1 on a daily basis. Why every day, unless you get very sweaty? I only change pants and socks every day. I wear t-shirts for two or even three days in winter and a bra isn't in contact with armpits like a t-shirt.

GruciusMalfoy · 01/02/2020 13:41

Don't you find they wear out very quickly? I'd have thought so much wear would have them lose support quicker than switching between a few.

MumApr18 · 01/02/2020 13:44

Ok holding my hands up here and realising I'm weird!

It's just your basic white nursing bra. I tend to buy a new one (or a two pack if I'm feeling crazy!) every 6 months or so. It does get a bit worn, I'll admit that but very comfy Grin

I only have 2 (that I wear) and cycle them fairly regularly 🙈🙈🙈

KatherineJaneway · 01/02/2020 13:47

Yuck

Bbq1 · 01/02/2020 13:47

I have lots of Bra's in every colour and style but day to day I wear the same 2. Couldn't imagine managing with one. I have a lot of bra's partly because I'm always seeking the best best bra.

AmazingGreats · 01/02/2020 13:49

I always have one pale one and one dark one, at the moment they are black and white but I was in pale pink and navy blue before I changed sizes. I also have a sports bra which is a bit crap but not skinny enough for my running bra again yet. I have never been able to just have one as I need to wear one whilst the others in the wash (unless I'm asleep) and I tend to hand wash them and hang them out to dry so that isn't quick.

DartmoorChef · 01/02/2020 13:49

I used to have about 30, in lovely colours, matching sets, and would spend a small fortune on underwear. That was in my 30s.

Ten years later I have 3 bras. Two for everyday wear, one fancy sparkly black one that goes with sheer tops on the rare occasion I bother to dress up when we go out..

BarbedBloom · 01/02/2020 13:50

I have four. All different colours and two are multi way bras as I don't like having visible bra straps. I do wear mine for two days though and buy two pairs of matching knickers to allow this. I never wear bras if I am at home though, even with the proper measurement I never find them comfortable

Rose789 · 01/02/2020 13:54

But what about different colours or styles?
You couldn’t wear a white bra with a black top. Or if your wearing a strappy dress or top you would need strapless.
I’ve lost weight recently so just bought some more bras. I bought 6 from asda at about £7 each for every day wear. Best shop for big boobs without spending an absolute fortune.

TeaAndCake321 · 01/02/2020 13:54

I have a couple that I wear constantly, literally 2 one black one white, I have about 20 or so in a drawer that never get worn. When I was breastfeeding I managed with 1 nursing bra for months, just didn’t get round to buying another, I was doing the same as you just taking it off to wash when I wasn’t going out.

ImFreeToDoWhatIWant · 01/02/2020 13:54

I have a favourite style that really suits me and I have four in exactly the same colour and size. I have an additional one in a different colourway, and an assortment of another six in a couple of sister sizes for when I'm different weights and at different times of the month. Two bras should be an absolute minimum for hygiene.

Elieza · 01/02/2020 13:57

I’ve got two on dark colours, two in light colours and two white ones.

Pretty much covers all eventualities as there are two in each size for water retention days and regular days.

Would live some new ones but won’t as I really need to lose weight before I splash out!
