To have one bra?

MumApr18 · 01/02/2020 13:25

So this has never occurred to me as strange, but it has just been pointed out to me that I might not have this right!

I have one bra which fits. I wear it a couple of days, wash while I'm in the house and don't need to wearing it, and then it goes straight back on again. Is that unreasonable? I have gym bralette type things but day to day, the one bra has never failed me....

Who are these adult women that have drawers full of different shapes/sizes of bras that they all wear regularly? My weight fluctuates so I would be spending a fortune if I splashed out on a new bra wardrobe every time I needed one!

Hand washing literally takes 5 mins!! Who doesn’t have 5 mins??Confused

OopsPregnantAgain · 01/02/2020 23:02

I will happily wear a bra several times before washing it, & even then it doesn't smell bad at all. I guess my boobs just aren't as sweaty as some other women. & it's not just my sense of smell because my T-shirt's definitely smell bad after being worn & I almost never wear one again without washing it.

5zeds · 02/02/2020 00:53

How can you need to change a T-shirt you wear OVER your bra but not your bra?? Confused. I don’t mind what you do, but that seems illogical.

Lanaa · 02/02/2020 01:25

Twillow no grips needed here. Of course I don't think most clothes are dirty when worn more than once. I would be bankrupted by my dry cleaning coats if so. However, bras like knickers and socks are underwear. It is indeed eye opening that people wear them more than once. It's definitely explained why people who are otherwise well presented can smell musty.

MissMoogle · 02/02/2020 02:07

I wish I had more than one bra, however, I am unable to find them in my back and cup size.

StarlightLady · 02/02/2020 05:13

I have a drawer full of bras which l wear regularly. I wear them once and they go in the wash; 30 degree machine wash, lingerie bag.

I want a range of bright colours and a few more subtle shades (I don’t do white or beige) as well as different styles for different tops.

I could only go for one bra, if like a friend, I was braless 95% of the time.

StarlightLady · 02/02/2020 05:19

I always buy 2 pairs of matching knix with a new bra too. But l would be lying if I said I matched all the time. I always try to wear things that go together though.

mnthrowaway202020 · 02/02/2020 05:22

I think one bra being worn at that frequency is unhygienic. At least buy a couple more so you can cycle a new one each day.

If I’m being honest, I am slim and flat chested so can get away without a bra 99% of the time. However I still own loads of bras and change them daily (I don’t have sweaty boobs either, by virtue of them being tiny!) It’s just that putting a fresh, clean bra on everyday, just like knickers, isn’t inconvenient for me, it’s simply good hygiene practice.

mintyneb · 02/02/2020 05:38

I'm amazed that people have such large collections of bras that - presumably- fit!

I only have have 3 largely due to the fact that it is such a nightmare shopping to get new ones. I dont think I'm an unusual shape but each time I need a new one I end up trying 12+ bras before I find one that fits!

eaglejulesk · 02/02/2020 05:44

I only have two black ones that I wear. They are the most comfortable and well fitting bras I've had for years, and I can't get any more, so they are going to have to last and last and last ......

eaglejulesk · 02/02/2020 05:53

For one thing, far too many people think something is 'dirty' when worn once. Each to their own, and maybe some people sweat more than others, but there is a massive industry devoted to persuading us we need to buy and use more and more products to be 'clean'.

This.

OopsPregnantAgain · 02/02/2020 08:44

@5zeds I'll tell you what I find illogical - Levi says jeans should NEVER be washed & yet people say bras should be washed everyday? My jeans touch a much larger area of my body

mumcop · 02/02/2020 08:47

I have 2. I wash wear wash wear. Couldn't cope with just having one!

squeekums · 02/02/2020 08:55

I'm amazed that people have such large collections of bras that - presumably- fit!

find the brands that fit best and never go elsewhere lol
I may have heaps but they all same 3 brands

bridgetreilly · 02/02/2020 09:06

but each time I need a new one I end up trying 12+ bras before I find one that fits!

Yes, but you can buy multiples of that one.

bridgetreilly · 02/02/2020 09:07

How can you need to change a T-shirt you wear OVER your bra but not your bra?? confused. I don’t mind what you do, but that seems illogical.

Because you don't wear bras cupping your armpits.

Hahaha88 · 02/02/2020 09:12

I have maybe 10 but I only really wear 5 of them, one is a super comfortable non wired non padded that doesn't do as much for my boobs as the others but feels like I'm not wearing a bra. The other 4 are the same bra in different colours. Two are not as great a fit (different cup size to the newer two). I have a strapless bra too but it only gets worn for special occasions. None of my four daily bras are White black or nude. And now from this thread I feel in a minority on that. They are also lacy not smooth but I wear them under vests/tank tops/t-shirts none the less.
I wash them when they smell. Like any other item of clothing that doesn't touch my bare vagina or bum.

5andunder · 02/02/2020 09:12

I have 1 bra and have been wearing it for 6 years now. Cant afford any more. Im pretty sure id be better off not wearing one. Im a 42e so very expensive for bras that size

StarlightLady · 02/02/2020 09:14

@mintyneb - New bras (and the matching knickers) are a belated Christmas present to myself every year in the January sales. I deserve it.

@OopsPregnantAgain - bras are usually a tighter fit than a pair of jeans. And who would want a forever unwashed pair of jeans round their crotch abyway?

AshenQueen · 02/02/2020 09:21

I have loads, but I rotate the same couple all the time and if I can wear the one I like best, I will. I don't wash it everyday.

I hate bras, so don't wear one unless I have to.

Ithinkitcouldbeme · 02/02/2020 09:28

I only have two, and they are both the exact same style/colour. I don’t match my underwear to my outfits, because I would never wear anything that means you would see it! So no I don’t think you’re that weird, as long as it’s getting washed. Sounds like you’re like me and only wear it for functionality. I have a friend who always goes on about ‘pretty’ bras and I’m like... huh??

(I do also have maybe 5 sports bras for the gym, but may also wear one of these on occasion where I want something comfy or if my two actual bras happen to be both in the wash)

Lipperfromchipper · 02/02/2020 09:32

Yeah, most of you shouldn’t even be wearing the bras you have!! There is NO WAY a bra over a year old (being worn everyday) is doing ANYTHING for your breasts!! Shock

Yorkshiremum17 · 02/02/2020 09:37

My mum always worked on the principle of one to wear, one in the wash and one spare. I have enough that I can wear a different one everyday plus a couple of fancy ones for going out

longcoffee · 02/02/2020 10:07

I have one that I love, and about ten others that I roll my eyes at but wear anyway. The loves bra changes, I'm fickle.

Popc0rn · 02/02/2020 10:18

I have about 10 of the same black t-shirt bra (I've only got little boobs so cheap ones from Primark are fine for me), plus 5 sports ones for the gym. I put a fresh one on in the morning and straight in the laundry basket when I take it off in the evening.
