To have one bra?

MumApr18 · 01/02/2020 13:25

So this has never occurred to me as strange, but it has just been pointed out to me that I might not have this right!

I have one bra which fits. I wear it a couple of days, wash while I'm in the house and don't need to wearing it, and then it goes straight back on again. Is that unreasonable? I have gym bralette type things but day to day, the one bra has never failed me....

Who are these adult women that have drawers full of different shapes/sizes of bras that they all wear regularly? My weight fluctuates so I would be spending a fortune if I splashed out on a new bra wardrobe every time I needed one!

I have five the same, I stocked up when something without horrible colours/skanky itchy lumpy lace/painful wires came available. Three are stashed (as such items are so rare) and I alternate the other two although I don't wear a bra every day, especially not in winter. When they wear out I will start using the others.

just one does seem a bit hard work.

WaggleWiggle · 01/02/2020 16:21

I must have 30 bras - all different colours, some smooth for under t-shirts, some wired, some plunge, some push-up... I wouldn’t want to have only one bra! And surely it looks / feels very worn if it’s on most days and then repeatedly washed? The back panels get looser with wear.

VirtualHamster · 01/02/2020 16:22

I have 3 or 4, can't imagine why anyone would need 25 sets!

But how do you match it to your underwear?

It's not compulsory to match!

WellTidy · 01/02/2020 16:26

I’d really struggle with just one. Even with two.

I used to have many bras, all with matching pants, ever so pretty. This was in my 20s and 30s. Now I have six. Same style but different colours - two white, a black, a blue, a grey and a red.

Lippy1234 · 01/02/2020 16:30

I have one white bra, one black bra, a strapless bra and a comfy sports bra.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 01/02/2020 16:36

I have about 20. I mostly wear black bra/pants, but have nice coloured sets too. I tend to buy in sales, one bra, plus two knickers. I like matching!

73Sunglasslover · 01/02/2020 16:37

My boobs are too big to ever 'not need to wear it' (except when asleep). Boobs resting on my fleshy belly is not comfortable at any time of the day. So 1 bra only would be hellish for me. If you wash it regularly and it works for you and you can dry it quick enough, it's obviously not a problem. Even if that wouldn't suit others. I have about 8 btw - 2 sports and around 3 each of dark and light ones. So there is always the right colour to wear under clothes. I guess I could just have white but when I wear a black top if there is any bra strap peeking out I think black is less obvious. And it costs no more because they then just last longer.

TheDogsMother · 01/02/2020 16:42

I think I might be the weird one. I have c 40 bra/knicker sets and couldn't leave the house in non matching Blush. For some people it's shoes, for me it's underwear

PeppermintPasty · 01/02/2020 16:49

I’ve got loads of bras but only because I never chuck any away, or very rarely. Some of my bras are older than Gary Barlow.

I only wear two of them though, not at the same time mind.

PeppermintPasty · 01/02/2020 16:49

Gary Bra-Low, of course.

LakieLady · 01/02/2020 17:06

I've lost a bit of weight recently, so had to buy new bras as one tit slipped out underneath the bra every time I lifted my arm up.

I mostly wear black, but like to have at least one white and one nude for when I wear pale colours. I bought 3 of the most comfortable style (2 black, one white). That style had a bit of lace trim on,which will show under clingy fabrics so I got two smooth t-shirt ones in black and white.

Then there was one that was described as a "comfort bra", so I thought I'd give it a try. What a fucking con! It's all scratchy where the hooks and eyes are attached to the band, has really stiff straps that cut in and rub and the underwires dig in to the point that they leave a red mark. I'm half minded to take it back and ask for a refund on the grounds that it's not as described.

Anyway, I currently have 6 that fit and about 12 that don't.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 01/02/2020 17:21

It's just your basic white nursing bra. I tend to buy a new one (or a two pack if I'm feeling crazy!) every 6 months or so. It does get a bit worn, I'll admit that but very comfy grin

So let's say you average 3 new bras a year then. All you do differently is choose to wear 1 at a time till its no longer usable, whereas most women would have the 3 in one go and rotate them. Same shelf life, just rotated.

TheGirlFromStoryville · 01/02/2020 17:33

I finally found a bra that's so comfortable for me, it's a Glamorise non wired one. I'm a 42H so need good support but can't wear uw ones any more. I bought 8 as they were on offer on Amazon for about £12 each so i always have a clean one to wear.

I also have the stretchy crop tops for night time.

EL8888 · 01/02/2020 17:37

But surely different bra styles are needed for different outfits? I can’t leave the house without a bra so YABU

thirdtimeluckythen · 01/02/2020 17:46

Good lord. I have approx 15 which are worn regularly. I wear for 1 day and then they hit the laundry. All colours and styles!

savethecat · 01/02/2020 17:48

I also only have one OP

BlueThursday · 01/02/2020 17:51

I have about a dozen I can’t even sleep without one on

ILearnedItFromABook · 01/02/2020 17:55

If it works for you, OP, there's no problem, though I'd probably want at least one or two more so there's a safety net in place, in case you run into a situation where having a couple of spares would make life easier.

It would never cross my mind to have matching sets of underwear, though... Just not something I care about. As long as they're decent and comfortable, I'm satisfied. Comfort above all else. (That's my motto for pretty much everything I wear, though.)

Lipperfromchipper · 01/02/2020 17:59

I have two and a sports bra...all fitted professionally and I get sized and fitted once a year and I buy 2/3 bras each time. I usually spend about 65 per bra.I then get rid of my older ones. I don’t hoard.

Keepmewarm · 01/02/2020 18:02

I like having nice underwear. It sets my mood.
I could be wearing a fairly dull outfit, maybe walking the dog, but I know that I have nice underwear one.
One set would bore me.

Silenceofthebams · 01/02/2020 18:04

I wear a clean one every day. I used to wear them for 2-3 days but really it’s no different to your under pants and I like fresh ones every day

PhantomErik · 01/02/2020 18:05

I've ended up with only 2 that fit properly after 2 broke/came apart recently so have just ordered 2 more.

All are molded t-shirt bras, 2 nude, 1 white, 1 black.

snowone · 01/02/2020 18:06

I have 3.....2 which I don't mind wearing, one that I wear if the other 2 are dirty. I am a 34H so buying bras that fit and are comfy comes at a premium cost 😣

Sickofrain · 01/02/2020 18:09

It is quite different from underpants. Other than nursing bras, worst that bra experience is sweat...

MumApr18 · 01/02/2020 18:20

Aww all these replies are making me feel so boring! I pretty much live in vest tops and jumpers day to day so have never really had a need for backless bras or different colours as they are quite well hidden.

For those commenting on the "ick", it's always clean - never more than 2 days in a row and only out the house...as soon as I'm indoors it comes right off!
