To have one bra?

MumApr18 · 01/02/2020 13:25

So this has never occurred to me as strange, but it has just been pointed out to me that I might not have this right!

I have one bra which fits. I wear it a couple of days, wash while I'm in the house and don't need to wearing it, and then it goes straight back on again. Is that unreasonable? I have gym bralette type things but day to day, the one bra has never failed me....

Who are these adult women that have drawers full of different shapes/sizes of bras that they all wear regularly? My weight fluctuates so I would be spending a fortune if I splashed out on a new bra wardrobe every time I needed one!

How LONG are ppl keeping bras for?? You are not supposed to wear the same bra after a year...it can’t possibly be doing it’s job correctly after THAT long!!

MumApr18 · 01/02/2020 21:14

@lborgia Ahhhh what? So some people find braless uncomfortable?! That would be a game changer.

I'm firmly in the "bras are for outdoor use only" camp, can't think of anything worse than trying to sit and watch telly and relax of a night with a bra on...but you're telling me some people are the opposite?!

I had one until a few weeks ago, I now have a weekend bra as well and use the other for work. I don't wash them every few days though Blush, probably every few weeks. I am a difficult shape for bras and find getting a comfortable one really tricky. I'm currently losing weight and always tell myself I'll buy some nice ones when I know they will fit for a while!

I’m nowhere near organised enough with washing to manage with just one bra. I’ve got one under wired one which fits well, but I only tend to wear under outfits which require a bit of shape or thinner straps (I have a back condition and fibro so prefer not to be restricted), and three Molke bras which are the comfiest things ever for day to day wear. I’ve also got a couple of the M&S bralets which are comfy but not very supportive.

MumApr18 · 01/02/2020 21:16

@belay Yay! Finally someone else! Welcome to the minority apparently Grin

You have one bra? Well, that’s one more than I have, OP! I hate the things, never wear them.

Xmasbaby11 · 01/02/2020 21:18

The lowest I've had was 2 or 3 when breastfeeding. Now I have 5 - white, nude, 2 black and sports bra. I find it only just enough. I wear them 2 days in winter but 1 day in summer. I'd like a few more but the ones I like are over £20.

Gammeldragz · 01/02/2020 21:21

Oh I also have a sports bra and a strapless bra, but they are for specific things and very rarely used.

BohoBunney · 01/02/2020 21:23

You are not supposed to wear the same bra after a year.
Why? Links? (not goady, curious as I don't understand why if it's still functional).
Especially if you're wearing multiple bras a week, it's only getting (12 / x number of bras) wears a year.

BohoBunney · 01/02/2020 21:23

356 not 12 lol.

7thlevelofthecandycaneforest · 01/02/2020 21:24

I feel panicky at the thought of just one! Doesn’t it discolour? I love buying underwear. I have about 15 bras and matching bottoms. I have different ones for different tops and situations. I could get it down to about 5 I think but definitely not one! (Plus I’m not that on top of washing Blush)

lilgreen · 01/02/2020 21:29

Yanbu. I have 4 but wear 2.Blush

lilgreen · 01/02/2020 21:31

Oh I have a sports bra and a strapless too but don’t count them as regular use lol

Lipperfromchipper · 01/02/2020 21:31

@BohoBunney due to your body changing, and also the elasticity reducing in the bra! So I have been told all my life...by all proper bra fitting shops NOT high street shops! I actually can feel when a bra is “done” if you get what I mean!

I have at least 10. Mainly black but silver and red ones too. I have a strapless one for certain clothes plus different bodysuits for certain clothes. I would hate to only have one bra!

Hadtoask · 01/02/2020 21:40

I have two. I just bought them for myself for Christmas. Prior to that I had one bra and this I wore for around two years. As a back up to this one I had a soft sort of sports bra top from Calvin Klein and I wore this in emergencies.

woodhill · 01/02/2020 21:47

Wear them for 2 days. I wouldn't discard a bra after 6 months. It's rare I even do up the middle set of hooks.

Lipperfromchipper · 01/02/2020 21:50

I was always instructed to start on the loosest hook and work my way inwards As it looses elasticity. So that’s what I do...

FOTTFSOFTFOASM · 01/02/2020 21:53

OP, you have one bra more than I do.

INeedToGetHealthy · 01/02/2020 21:54

I have 3 bras now. They are all Molke ones in Space, Dinosaur & Power styles.

5zeds · 01/02/2020 22:00

I wouldn’t want to wear a bra two days running. Perhaps
I am sweatier than the average woman?

cousinboneless · 01/02/2020 22:35

I have a whole bunch for every eventuality. All fit. Daily wear bras, push up if I can be bothered, I even have a spiked bra for on show at gigs. Clean bra every day, we're all different. If it doesn't bother you, don't worry about it.

Twillow · 01/02/2020 22:39

I have only one that is a great fit, one other not so much and worn when the other is in the wash.
I do have one other, the same size, same brand as the great fit one which is really uncomfortable and I really ought to get rid of but it cost a lot...

Twillow · 01/02/2020 22:44

Eye-opening? Gross that people wear a bra more than once?
Get a grip...

For one thing, far too many people think something is 'dirty' when worn once. Each to their own, and maybe some people sweat more than others, but there is a massive industry devoted to persuading us we need to buy and use more and more products to be 'clean'.

monkeysox · 01/02/2020 22:45

Underboob sweat is real.
At least three properly fitted ones.
What if the washer broke and your only white one was stinky.
I know you're supposed to hand wash them but who has time for that.
Could not leave the house without one.
Absolutely not.
They must not move. Thought makes me feel 🤮
Yabu having only one.
