To have one bra?

MumApr18 · 01/02/2020 13:25

So this has never occurred to me as strange, but it has just been pointed out to me that I might not have this right!

I have one bra which fits. I wear it a couple of days, wash while I'm in the house and don't need to wearing it, and then it goes straight back on again. Is that unreasonable? I have gym bralette type things but day to day, the one bra has never failed me....

Who are these adult women that have drawers full of different shapes/sizes of bras that they all wear regularly? My weight fluctuates so I would be spending a fortune if I splashed out on a new bra wardrobe every time I needed one!

@ILearnedItFromABook This has been the only time I've ever cycled more than one bra - I usually buy a couple of extra when I'm away on holiday, or for the hospital bag in labour.

Other posters have mentioned bra size - I'm also a really large awkward size so decent bras are always £30 upwards...there just always seems to be something more important to buy!

I've only got two, both exactly the same. One to wear and one to wash.

I used to have loads when I was younger, all different colours and style s and matching knickers. Nowadays it's all about comfort.

Franticbutterfly · 01/02/2020 18:45

I have maybe 10. I chuck them out when the look tired and buy a couple more. Try gossard, they wash really well

Lanaa · 01/02/2020 18:46

This is eye opening. I thought bras were single wear items like knickers. People actually wear the same bra twice without washing it? That's a bit gross.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 01/02/2020 18:59

lanaa I would only wear a bra twice without washing on a day like today when I had a shower/dressed about midday, went to the hairdresser, was home by 3pm then bra straight off and into lounge clothes! Otherwise clean bra every day.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 01/02/2020 19:01

I only have 2

firstimemamma · 01/02/2020 19:03

Doesn't it show through your clothes when you wear dark colours op? When I was nursing I had 2 bras, a black one and a white one (as well as sleep bras). Now that I'm no longer breastfeeding in back to my collection of normal bras, I'm guessing there are about 5-7 of them.

Lipperfromchipper · 01/02/2020 19:03

Yeah I could wear mine 2/3 days in a row I suppose.

Silenceofthebams · 01/02/2020 19:03

worst that bra experience is sweat
Imo sweat is enough to make me want a fresh one on. Who wants to put yesterday or the day befores sweaty clothes on .

Rainbowsparkle · 01/02/2020 19:06

I have tons of different ones. In black, white and nude. Different straps or no straps depending on outfit.
I’m a 32ff so a decent bra is essential!

Sally2791 · 01/02/2020 19:06

Whatever works for you- some people don’t have any

Vicbarbarkley · 01/02/2020 19:07

I joined Mumsnet for another reason, but saw this post.
I have three bras. I actually have a drawer full of too small bras, but ... A white one, a black one and a strapless nude coloured one.

What else would you need? 🤔

TheChosenTwo · 01/02/2020 19:11

I have 6 that I wear regularly but own about 20 - a range from fancy/sexy in sets to sports bras and everything inbetween.
I live in the black T-shirt ones - I don’t wear clothes with plunging necklines or backless things to need complicated bras! I’m boring and live in quite dark boring clothes Grin

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 01/02/2020 19:13

I have around a dozen. Each generally has two pairs of matching pants. Another couple of sports bras. I couldn't manage with one at all, and definitely wouldn't feel comfortable at home without them. Even my pj tops have built in soft bras.

TAKESNOSHITSHIRLEY · 01/02/2020 19:15

i only have the one because of my size

im a 46K/L and cant get them anywhere

i found 1 on simply be last year,a purple multi colored one

our lifestyle is we were nightwear in the house anyway and only get dressed when going out so it doesnt matter as im not wearing one 3/4 of the time anyway

Lipperfromchipper · 01/02/2020 19:44

Our bodies are forever changing, we should ideally be fitted and measured every 6 months and get proper bras that bring our breasts up and in!!

Cakecrumbsinmybra · 01/02/2020 20:10

I wouldn't like just one, but I can understand how that might happen. I have 3 at the moment and 3 sports bras. And about 30 pairs of the same type of knickers!

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 01/02/2020 20:14

I see the thread is veering into competitive cleanliness again Hmm

I think everyone is adult enough to judge whether an item of clothing is clean enough for their needs any given day.

99victoria · 01/02/2020 20:44

I've just gone and counted mine. I have 21! 4 crop tops for casual wear and 17 proper underwired bras - black, cream, red, turquoise, purple, pink and white; strapless, crossover, balconette, padded, lacy, patterned etc. I love nice underwear, it makes me feel good about myself

ThebishopofBanterbury · 01/02/2020 20:46

Gawd woman at least get a second so you can wash one wear one. Just to have one seems very strange and difficult.

MumApr18 · 01/02/2020 21:08

@ThebishopofBanterbury You'd think! But I always have plenty of time to wash before it's needed again, never seems to be an issue.

I am very aware now though that I'm in the tiniest minority here!

@BuzzShitbagBobbly - I agree with you, BUT pp said that they don't go near your armpits therefore not sweaty, when actually they do get soaked in sweat, just from under your boobs, and the panels round the sides.

Not because you've got sweat running over your body in rivers, but because they fit do closely to your skin.

Obviously if you're only wearing them for a few hours, it's winter etc.etc.. then that's different, but say a 10 hour day, going to work, walking a few thousand steps, when nursing, the are a lot of reasons why most women would want to change daily.

I think it's probably a bit like make up. The are always going to be those who don't leave the house without full face done, and those who might consider putting on a bit of moisturiser.

For me, having a couple of different colours or styles is a cheering thing, especially when I'm wearing very dull sensible at home stuff. I find a couple of styles that fit well, and then if I spot one in the sales I get it.

belay · 01/02/2020 21:10

I've only got one . It washes and dries overnight. Can't find same make and style and tried many others but they don't fit

lborgia · 01/02/2020 21:11

@MumApr18 - I'm assuming you don't find braless uncomfortable? I think that's the big difference. If you don't feel the need to wear one for every waking hour, I guess it's feasible.

devilsadv0caat · 01/02/2020 21:13

you wouldn’t put dirty knickers back on after showering would you
My breasts don't come into contact with vaginal discharge tbh.
