To have one bra?

MumApr18 · 01/02/2020 13:25

So this has never occurred to me as strange, but it has just been pointed out to me that I might not have this right!

I have one bra which fits. I wear it a couple of days, wash while I'm in the house and don't need to wearing it, and then it goes straight back on again. Is that unreasonable? I have gym bralette type things but day to day, the one bra has never failed me....

Who are these adult women that have drawers full of different shapes/sizes of bras that they all wear regularly? My weight fluctuates so I would be spending a fortune if I splashed out on a new bra wardrobe every time I needed one!

I only like one at the minute due to some temporary weight gain so I go a few weeks in it Shock then wash by hand and pop on radiator, it doesn't smell

VerbenaGirl · 02/02/2020 10:42

If it works for you, that’s absolutely fine. I get twitchy if I don’t have spares, as the guinea pugs do occasionally wee on me!

0ttilie · 02/02/2020 11:07

I have one style but 5 of them in different colours as they are my perfect bra and bought lots before they got discontinued.

I use bra extenders for when I accidentally shrink one or if my weight fluctuates. They are fantastic.

woodhill · 02/02/2020 11:15

I hand wash mine mainly and rotate.

I think if you wash them everyday they wear out faster hence having to replace.

I have lots and wear the more grottier ones as a fall back if I have to got round to washing the nicer ones.

I do wash the older ones in the machine or M&S ones

TheHonestTruth100 · 02/02/2020 11:17

There's nothing wrong with what you're doing. I mean I frankly could not be arsed to hand around waiting for a bra to wash and dry but if you can then you're all good.

Jennywren2978 · 02/02/2020 11:26

I have lots of bras, but only two that fit (the others I keep for if I lose weight) but I don't intend to buy anymore until they wear out as I've found I can manage with just two on a wash and wear basis just like the op. In fact last week I wore the same bra (my fav one) all week, washing every couple of days so I know I could manage with just one.

LynseyLou1982 · 02/02/2020 11:31

Oh gosh I have two drawers full of lingerie. I just like to have a varied choice. I've got all sorts of different styles and colours and patterns. I like to know I have spares for when others are in the wash. I went a but mad once I'd ditched my uni-boob nursing bras. I only have sets with matching knickers though. I don't like not having matching knickers or at least the same colour as the bra. I am a bit weird though Smile

unlikelytobe · 02/02/2020 12:13

There is NO WAY a bra over a year old (being worn everyday) is doing ANYTHING for your breasts!!

Really? I'm worried now! Shock
Do you mean the elasticity has gone or what?

ItsLotti · 02/02/2020 12:21

I have a drawer full of pretty bras but I always wear my one old tatty breast feeding bra (stopped breastfeeding 2 years ago!) because it's soooo comfy 😅

MumApr18 · 02/02/2020 18:44

So, big news, after reading all your replies and realising I was in the minority, I bought a new bra today! It's the right size according to Bravissimo but omg does it feel like a straight jacket! Bank balance lighter, ribcage much tighter but I guess I'm adulting properly now...

Mombie2016 · 02/02/2020 18:46

I have 2 "proper" bras, the rest are crop top style or sports bras. My boobs are tiny and I hate the feel of proper bras.

Lipperfromchipper · 02/02/2020 19:35

@unlikelytobe yes the elasticity and also the fact that your breasts and body change constantly!

Dragonembroidery · 02/02/2020 21:19

It is a bit weird. It's better to have more than one set of underwear. Hmm

lborgia · 03/02/2020 10:43

@mumApr18 - congrats! If it really doesn't feel comfier in a couple of wears, you should return it. Meanwhile, maybe we've spawned a queen of bras!!

Florence888 · 06/03/2020 11:08

Does anyone know of any maternity lingerie companies that or sustainable or just have good values?

TheNoodlesIncident · 06/03/2020 13:22

No judgement from me on how few other people have, but I have loads of all types. I haven't counted but there are drawers-full... Blush

I think it goes back to when I first started wearing bras and my mum got out a stored collection of "old lady" bras in beige, coffee, pale green, pale blue for DSis and I to wear. To school. On PE days too. (These were the days of only wearing white bras mind you, the 80s). I was mortified at the thought the other girls could see our crappy granny bras. (Not be ageist, we were young teens and it was terribly important what you wore and I'd already had years of snide comments about my unfashionable hand-me-down clothes)

It must be over-compensation. I bought far too many nice clothes for my son too, I realise.

Pursefirst · 06/03/2020 13:36

I'm the same @TheNoodlesIncident! I have a chest of drawers just for my lingerie, which includes about 14 sports bras (simply because I often workout twice a day and I cba doing laundry every day).

Glad to hear you got sorted with a new bra OP! Well wear Smile

Connie222 · 06/03/2020 13:49

I only have one as well.

I’ve got big boobs and they are expensive (the cheap ones off the internet are always shit. But by expensive I mean £16 but I’m broke so some weeks that would make the difference between eating or not).

I’ve just never been able to afford to get another one until it’s on it’s last legs and then I have to forgo something essential that week to buy another.

Waveysnail · 06/03/2020 14:02

Just invested in 2 more bras as was down to 1 and it was a pain to keep washing. Just got pack of two m&s underwire for £25 36F. Surprisingly comfy

Justgorgeous · 06/03/2020 14:08

I have 3, but they are £90 each from Rigby and Peller so that’s it !
