Would you date someone who had a coldsore in the past?

YABU - no
YANBU - yes

Not talking an active one and a date right now, just someone that gets them, maybe just one coldsore (so Herpes), a year, 2 years, 5 years ago!

And yes I have another thread to those who have read it. Just wanting a poll, thanks.

No poll no choose. But yes, my husband gets them regularly

Guavaf1sh · 05/01/2020 12:12

That’s most of humanity

InsertFunnyUsername · 05/01/2020 12:12

Cant see the voting option 🤔

But yes I would.

Chemenger · 05/01/2020 12:13

How would you know? (There’s no poll, by the way)

vampirethriller · 05/01/2020 12:13

Yes
My sister gets them and is married. My mother gets them and was married 20 years, 7 children, and my father never caught it from her.

Tigger03 · 05/01/2020 12:13

I would (and probably have) as how would you know? I suspect I’ve been on dates with someone who gets them, as it’s not something that would be announced on a first date and so many people are carriers.

leiaskye · 05/01/2020 12:15

My husband (who I’ve been with for 24years), gets cold sores probably 2 / 3 times a year.

I have never had one, neither have either of our two children.

Must be one of the most paranoid reasons not to date someone I’ve ever heard!

MigGril · 05/01/2020 12:15

Err this is an odd qestion as apparently a high percentage of the population carry the virus. I would want to kiss anyone with an active coldsore, but it wouldn't put me off dating them.

ToLiveInPeace · 05/01/2020 12:16

You might find the dating pool a bit small if you wouldn't. And would you ask about this before agreeing to a first date? What if your partner acquired their first coldsore after you'd committed to a relationship?

Stressedout10 · 05/01/2020 12:16

No

eurochick · 05/01/2020 12:17

Doesn't more than 90% of the population carry the virus? I'm sure I read that recently. If so, you would be seriously limiting your dating pool.

Oysterbabe · 05/01/2020 12:18

Yes of course.

SachaStark · 05/01/2020 12:19

Hmm Well, my husband managed to marry me, despite the fact I get cold sores a couple of times a year, when I’m very run down and tired.

What a nasty attitude.

Thefaceofboe · 05/01/2020 12:19

Why wouldn’t you? Hmm

brassbrass · 05/01/2020 12:20

You do know it's not an indicator of anything don't you?

They may have been kissed by someone with a cold sore and been passed it on that way. Not something you can avoid realistically.

You need to educate yourself. Some people seem more prone than others and health and immunity play a part. I know people who get them when they are particularly run down and stressed.

Redcrayons · 05/01/2020 12:20

how would you even know? Would never cros my mind to ask someone this.

Onewardsup · 05/01/2020 12:21

I’m not being nasty in this question I promise! The poll is showing on my screen (73% would so far)

OP posts:
Cheeseboardcriminal · 05/01/2020 12:21

I get them when I am stressed so yes I would.

VestaTilley · 05/01/2020 12:22

Of course! I get them when I'm run down! It's not regular sex virus herpes- it's another strain, and lots of people carry it. The only thing to avoid is kissing someone with a live one, and never let someone with one kiss a baby.

Feellikeafailureatparenting · 05/01/2020 12:22

Yes it's herpes but most cold sores are not caused by the same strain of the virus that is related to the STD.

CheeseNOnionPasty · 05/01/2020 12:22

Half the population carry the herpes virus in some form, don’t they?

I wouldn’t bat an eyelid at cold sores.

itbemay1 · 05/01/2020 12:22

Exact same as @leia!

SachaStark · 05/01/2020 12:22

I don’t know, I’d argue that there’s an implication of a nasty attitude in the sub-clause “so Herpes”, as though those of us with cold sores are lepers or something.

LuluJakey1 · 05/01/2020 12:22

Certainly not. It is one of the first questions I ask anyone.

adaline · 05/01/2020 12:23

Yeah, absolutely.

DH has had them since childhood. I've never had one.
