Hello all, just caught myself reminiscing about all the good times spent in fields and warehouses during my youth so would like some fellow cheesy quavers to come and talk about your best times so I feel less alone in big fish, little fish-ing in my living room.

My God this thread makes me want to go raving all night. Currently pregnant so no chance for the next few years!

ConstanceL · 07/01/2020 23:08

Ahh it all seems so long ago now! I can't remember the name of half the places we used to go to (London in the mid to late 90's), but will always have fond memories of Megatripolis at Heaven :)

absopugginglutely · 07/01/2020 23:11

My people!!
I used to go to Bagleys, illegal raves in the woods, Slinky's in Bournemouth (but only for the DnB room upstairs) loads I’ve forgotten through alcohol!
Best times ever dancing til the sun rise!

FizzyIce · 08/01/2020 08:35

@Racheyg I can’t fully remember but I think it was Peach . Was an amazing experience ,nothing really comes close now ..
Used to love Bagleys and fabric .
Gass club was a good one once I was a fully fledged Garage girl.

meatandcrustypies · 08/01/2020 15:20

Ahhhhhh my friends!! I found myself getting into clubbing in the late 90s. Am from Brum so mainly Miss Moneypennies, S.L.A.G, Bakers, wobble, Dusk til Dawn. Also knew the owner of Gatecrasher so spent many a Saturday at the Arches. The drugs were amazing and I had the best times of my life in those years. I'd do it all again in a heart beat!!!

dustybluebell · 08/01/2020 19:31

@StormBaby what were the boat raves called? And what year? I used to go to them in 92 (my first raves) have looked online to find out more and can't. I can only remember 2 DJs that played on them..Andy Nicholls and Steve Proctor. Any more info?

theemmadilemma · 08/01/2020 19:36

I was thinking about this the other day when I saw a Sterns flyer and was reminising about having my whole bedroom walls covered in flyers.

I worked out I was just 16 when I went there. Then remembered I was still at school when I was doing Evolution, Raindance and Fantazia.

I spent a happy evening remembering all my favourite clubs:

Fabric
The End
SW1
Bagleys
Chunnel
Greys
Turnmills
The Cross
The Astoria
The Fridge
The Sanctuary
Ministry

Ahhh good fucking times. I'm partied out these days. Burnt out. Grin

theemmadilemma · 08/01/2020 19:40

@dustybluebell @StormBaby That's reminded me of the 12 hour boat party on the Thames. Fuck me that was hell on a boat.

I'm sure the flyer had a banana on it?

dustybluebell · 08/01/2020 21:37

@theemmadilemma I dont remember the flyer tbh. Thought they were all similar in black and white, with the river Thames on it..Bill shaped envelope size that opened upwards. I dont remember them.be 12 hours either, but we're going back some years Grin

theemmadilemma · 08/01/2020 22:19

Yeah my memory is somewhat hazy of those years. Grin

Ohyesiam · 08/01/2020 22:44

Oh my god the memories! E was such a happy drug!

I saw a mention of club dog, it was so grungy, I loved it. Some dodgy bit of north London, can anyone remember where? Finsbury Park maybe?

And another few queries. I remember dancing in a massive venue on Euston Rd between Euston and kings cross but on the opposite side of the road. I would love to remember the name. I remember leaving and going to bagleys because the music was better.

And a club night I used to love on Sunday night at the electric ballroom in Camden.

All later eighties to mid 90 s

SpamChaudFroid · 09/01/2020 07:50

wrongsideofhistorymyarse

I do indeed remember Sterns I used to live at the farm and remember the first Dusk til Dawn! (in contrast am currently in hospital recovering from a discectomy)

wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 09/01/2020 13:10

SpamChaudFroid good times Grin

Cheesy quaver get well wishes.

CrustyMorticia · 09/01/2020 13:25

@Ohyesiam Club Dog was at the legendary George Robey in Finsbury Park. Had many a brilliant night (from what I remember) there. Ended up at Brixton Academy via the Rocket if I remember. Club Dog are doing a night in Manchester in Feb, seriously tempted.

StormBaby · 09/01/2020 13:35

@dustybluebell @theemmadilemma the nights I DJed at were later than that, 2001 ISH. It was called Wibble. I can only remember one of the other DJs, Carlos Fandango Grin He was an older guy, probably mid 40s at the time, and would constantly give me vinyl from his collection, which I still have at home(along with my decks)

dustybluebell · 09/01/2020 15:24

@StormBaby 2001 was a bit late for me. I'd already started turning into a 'pipe and slippers' person. I'd met my husband and he really isnt /wasnt a raver!!

CheeseNOnionPasty · 09/01/2020 18:14

@MissClementine oh my god, long dark tunnel! Labyrinth was grimey but God I loved it.

MissClementine · 09/01/2020 19:08

@CheeseNOnionPasty
Labrynth was great but thoroughly dirty, remember the loos! I’d be there most weekends in my hot pants! The stage and stairway to nowhere as it was known. And Adrian Age the MC, so many memories.

MayDayHelp · 09/01/2020 19:23

Those were the days.

Started raving in 97, mostly free parties in the SW. half the fun was finding the party in the first place, no sat nav then. We’d drive as near as we could then stop, switch off the engine and listen for a bass line, then set off in the direction of it, often finding other lost people along the way and before you knew it there was a convey of equally lost people.

That time in the morning when the sun came up and you realised how horrific everyone looked off their tits and that you must look the same but at the same time not giving a fuck Grin.

Did my fair share of clubs too but free parties were always the one for me. Started to get shit in the early noughties because the rozzers would just get themselves on the text mailing list and parties would be shut down before they started.

Driving back from raves on no sleep and lots of chemicals, but that was ok because I hadn’t had a drop of alcohol and if I could only control my jaw long enough if I got pulled over I’d be fine.

The epic party in the squatted church in Bristol on millennium NYE, anyone else go to that one?

Delamero · 09/01/2020 19:25

Oh my God the best Mumsnet thread in ages!!
Club UK
Bagleys
The Cross
The End
Dreamscape (tho was a bit happy hardcore for me)

A totally lost 48 hours at the first Tribal Gathering.
Best time of my life without a doubt.

Delamero · 09/01/2020 19:27

Club UK was my favourite. Billy Nasty and Carl Cox. Feet away with epic music.

Now you pay £££ to listen to the play amongst 1000s. Give me back then any day of the week! 43 and still 21 in my head

Ballstothisdotcom · 09/01/2020 20:36

Club UK yes my people every weekend in 1995 My boyfriend had a friend who was on of thr ckub promoters there. We used to drive there and drive home. Shivering on a massive come down at 6am then try and sleep.

I always think my parents must have known. I had a really frank discussion with my mum about it years later. She didnt have a clue.

SpamChaudFroid · 10/01/2020 11:23

SpamChaudFroid good times grin

Cheesy quaver get well wishes.

Back thoroughly on the mend and dreaming about day raving...

It wasn't just the drugs was it - I had some MDMA a few years ago and without the music, dancing and people it was completely different. We did feel as if we were part of a movement and so did the police as they were always trying to get Sterns closed down. All we wanted to do was dance.

Did you ever come to any of the farm parties after Sterns wrongsideofhistorymyarse? They were the best, there was a sound system set up in the garden and the DJs would come back there to spin some tunes after the all nighter at Sterns. Totally happy days.
