Hello all, just caught myself reminiscing about all the good times spent in fields and warehouses during my youth so would like some fellow cheesy quavers to come and talk about your best times so I feel less alone in big fish, little fish-ing in my living room.

@MschnandlerBong. I’ll dust off my fairy wings and platform trainers.

Marriedtoapenguin · 05/01/2020 00:04

Where the horns?

Ballstothisdotcom · 05/01/2020 00:05

Also this!

AutumnRose1 · 05/01/2020 00:05

Fairy wings 😍

I also had a white fake fur for shivering outside nightclubs with a cigarette

I wish I could assemble some kind of outfit that would give a little nod to those days....just a little nod.....!

Ballstothisdotcom · 05/01/2020 00:06

i wanted to buy a fake fur pink coat with red heart pockets until ds reminded me I’m 43. The arsehole.

beverlymarsh · 05/01/2020 00:06

I’ve still got a lot of my old clubbing gear!! It will never fit me again as I was teeny weeny back in the day, but it’s awesome to look at from time to time :D

Ballstothisdotcom · 05/01/2020 00:08

Actually I meant this if it works!

MrsSiba · 05/01/2020 00:12

I remember Bullet in the gun, Gatecrasher Sheffield with the green lasers. Amazing. I went as a teetotal, non drinking student when all my mates were fucked. I would get home at 7am, have a cake and a bath then go to bed. Good times.

AutumnRose1 · 05/01/2020 00:16

Balls oh I LOVE THAT CHOOOON!

I’m also 43. I stopped being able to cope with the crowds at around 30 though.

FrogsFrogs · 05/01/2020 00:17

Wigan getting a lot of mentions never been there! Sounds fab.

I used to love bagleys kings cross and also herbal tea / megadog Manchester. Squat parties as well, one I was at made the papers!

Thegreymethod · 05/01/2020 00:24

Wigan Pier was local to me at the time so we used to end up in there most weekends once the local pub closed..... the first time someone suggested it we were wearing trainers and causal clothes and were mortified at the thought of going out like that but once there we realised anything goes!!
Spent the millennium NYE at Liverpool pier head, still remember the feeling of all meeting up excited ready for it and also remember the feeling of leaving when it finished at 8am and then finding a house party that carried on till the day after...... I struggle to last till midnight now!

Pieceofpurplesky · 05/01/2020 00:28

Memories! Club UK, Camden Palace, The Fridge.

Then back home to Manchester for the Hacienda, The Boardwalk and the PSV

Thegreymethod · 05/01/2020 00:33

Did anyone else used to watch human traffic the night before a big night out to get themselves hyped up for it (not that we needed hyping up!!) 🤣

TheWickerWoman · 05/01/2020 00:33

BanginChoons

I remember the Q club well. Went to my first proper rave there, it was Danceplanet in 1994.

The building was an old law courts, they closed it after someone died there apparently.

bananafish · 05/01/2020 00:37

The Aquarium on Old Street roundabout which had a swimming pool.
omg I'd forgotten about that one. I distinctly remember getting into that very pool with my best friend. The bouncers stopped everyone else from coming in, gave us bottles of champagne and decided we'd have a private party after hours. Lord Shock

Such classic fun memories. Mass - The Cross (where I met DH), The End, even good old MoS, Cream, Ibiza, Chicago. I DJ'd a tiny bit myself and was lucky enough to know a couple of well known DJ's so it was just the best of times.

MsChnandlerBong · 05/01/2020 00:41

Hang on, I'm getting my furry boots in and slapping glitter gel all over. Right, I'm ready, let's fucking goooooooooo!!!

MooseBeTimeForSummer · 05/01/2020 00:53

I rarely went out of town. Tended to stick to the Welly in Hull. Occasionally went to Leeds and did go to Hot at the Hacienda once.

Currently listening to a rave playlist on iTunes!

Snoopdogsbitch · 05/01/2020 00:57

piece had a few banging nights in Boardwalk when down from Glasgow on an adventure. Was it Bar Atlas where you go the mini bus down to Boardwalk/ Hac? Good times.

90swerethebest · 05/01/2020 01:27

I was just a bit young to catch the real rave era. I remember The Fridge nights - Return to the Source, Escape from Samsara, Science Fiction. I remember doves and paper acid.

Criminal Justice Marches in Brixton ' they want to fight, we want to party' was the headline in Mixmag. I remember raving on the steps outside the National Gallery in Trafalgar Square and our pictures were in Mixmag. I actually did my sociology coursework on rave culture and my research was ethnographic research in a club ,genius really lol.

Also the Zap in Brighton, the green laser!

I honestly think that period helped me feel less depressed and part of something good, even if it was just hedonistic, it was a world of connection beyond the closed doors and unattainable houses of suburban Britain.

90swerethebest · 05/01/2020 01:30

they want to fight, we want to party can you imagine a slogan like this today?! GrinHmmConfused

90swerethebest · 05/01/2020 01:32

Ooh love the links to 90s rave music!

That's my work/running playlist for January sorted Grin

90swerethebest · 05/01/2020 01:36

@Ballstothisdotcom Ah such a good tune! That shifting beat and the background bass.

90swerethebest · 05/01/2020 01:41

Yes Apollo 440! I just ordered some Ikea boxes so I can box up my old tapes and store them. What I am actually going to do when they arrive is look through them all again and have a play/dance/share Grin

Walnutwhipster · 05/01/2020 01:48

DH is good friends with the writer of 'big fish, little fish.'

CheeseNOnionPasty · 05/01/2020 02:31

Glad Aquarium on Old Street has been mentioned. I knew the bouncers there and had many an eventful free night out, although I never went in to that interestingly warm pool. I remember propping you the small bar near the doors, though. The scent of chlorine in the air Grin.
