Hello all, just caught myself reminiscing about all the good times spent in fields and warehouses during my youth so would like some fellow cheesy quavers to come and talk about your best times so I feel less alone in big fish, little fish-ing in my living room.

OP posts:

Oh lord I feel old

TheWickerWoman · 05/01/2020 03:23

I’ve really enjoyed being part of this thread tonight. Great call, OP 👍🏽

FrangipaniBlue · 05/01/2020 07:53

@beverlymarsh I live way up in Cumbria but used to get the train down to Birmingham every opponent I could get!! Grin

FrangipaniBlue · 05/01/2020 08:08

Opportunity even

CaptainRoss · 05/01/2020 08:34

A few I’m not sure have been mentioned....

Ark (possibly mainly northern) - usually had DJs such as Sy, Anne Savage, Tony de Vit.
Fantazia (occasionally doing some amazing joint nights with the above)

Less house, more happy hardcore type stuff (but what I would think of as proper raves Grin)...
Hardcore heaven
Heater skelter
Dreamscape
Vibealite

You can often find footage of these nights on YouTube...I’m on a few 😬😬

StormBaby · 05/01/2020 09:55

I would still go now if I had anyone to go with. I'm desperate to go to Printworks to a Techno night but my now DH hates it.

AutumnRose1 · 05/01/2020 10:45

I don't know Big Fish Little Fish and all google finds is kids songs...please can someone link? Thanks.

Oldraver · 05/01/2020 10:46

OP no luckily I was just waving my arm in the air. I knew it was being recorded and at one point was fiddling in my bag for ahem something only to look up to see the cameraman zooming into my bag

We used to travel up and down the country and it wouldn't be odd to be in a club in Birmingham and decide at 4am to follow ash to London then back again for the rest of Sunday clubbing.

One weekend I did over 700 miles, from Oxford to Glastonbury to pick up a dj, up to Birmingham over to Long Eaton back to Birmingham taking in several clubs then back to drop dj back to Glastonbury

I never went travelling after school. I ended up travelling the uk to rave 😳 had such a great time. I never made it past Leeds though. I also did all the festivals too.

Don't regret a thing.

I totally forgot about the end, baglieys, Cross etc.
My fave club away from London was the club in Sheffield where gatecrasher was. So many messy nights up there. 🙈

Shannith · 05/01/2020 12:14

Is it bad I've been to most of the clubs named?

I loved it!

Used to run a club night at the warehouse in Leeds and worked as a door whore at Love to be and briefly a dancer at Basics.

I'd be a total hypocrite to tell DC not to do drugs. Some of the best times of my life

easyandy101 · 05/01/2020 12:18

Went to a warehouse rave on NYE Grin

Kolo · 05/01/2020 12:32

@banginChoons and @TheWickerWoman I used to go to Q club for atomic jam. Or we'd be at Tin Tins on a Saturday. We worked at a nearby bar till 2, then once that was closed we'd head over to Tin tins as we got in free, bus home 8am

Or during summer we'd head over to Wolverhampton for the tunnel parties under the railway bridges.

HeadLikeAFuckinOrange · 05/01/2020 12:39

"One weekend" in Europe in the 90s turned into almost a year, way back when the English were being desperately sought for bulb picking in Amsterdam.
Our weeks consisted of bulb picking, followed by weekends out, dancing til the next day, carrying on until we dropped...great tunes, great times.

Suffering burnout, I came home...then discovered Helter Skelter, & later, Gatecrasher and Goodgreef.
I still (very occasionally) go to events which have DJs from my favourite era, as they tend to be more my age group, and not 19 year olds wondering who brought their Mum along Grin

Leadershipmaterial · 05/01/2020 12:58

I was always involved in the underground scene rather than clubs, free party people. Nothing like raving on a deserted airfield in Devon for 3 days

NameChangeNugget · 05/01/2020 13:17

Used to love The Milk Bar in Soho.

Meeting up at South Mimms and dialling a number from a pay phone to find the location of the rave.

Absolutely the best days from 1987-90 Wink

MitziK · 05/01/2020 13:58

Ah yes, being a size 12 with abs of steel and either combats and a crop top or black fairy wings and UV face paint. And long dreads, naturally.

Lots of disused pubs. Lots and lots of speed.

Heaven Above underneath Vauxhall Bridge.

Came out of there one morning to find it had been snowing and I was all 'Ohhhhhhhhhhh, they're magical' and thought I could see the crystalline structure of every snowflake glinting in the streetlights.

And then I bought the homeless bloke a hotdog and coffee from the roadkill van and spent the next day feeling like death.

Oly4 · 05/01/2020 14:13

Renaissance at The Cross was my favourite club night ever.
Followed by the best times at Turnmills, The End, Gatecrasher and Ministry.
Happy days

CrustyMorticia · 05/01/2020 14:17

Spent a good decade on mainly the illegal squat party/traveller scene all through the 90s. Also had a great blag for club nights in London like Club Dog etc as we were belly dancers so got paid to perform. Really miss those days!

Leadershipmaterial · 05/01/2020 14:19

Crusty did you know Spiral Tribe and Bedlam?

CrustyMorticia · 05/01/2020 14:20

I worked at Whirl-y-gig for 7 years!

CrustyMorticia · 05/01/2020 14:22

@Leadershipmaterial yes, also Virus, Immersion, Desert Storm etc etc

septemberismyfavouritemonth · 05/01/2020 14:25

You are my people! Wonder how many of us danced alongside each other back in the day, certainly a lot of you were at the same places at the same time. The best of times! I have pangs of nostalgia often for those days!

Doyoumind · 05/01/2020 15:16

I have pangs of nostaligia too. A lot of the people I socialise with now would be appalled to think of being involved in half the stuff I used to get up to. They don't know what they missed out on. I wish I had more people in my life I could reminisce with.

waterjungle · 05/01/2020 15:18

I was mainly south west based so it was Scream and Cultural Vibes at Oz. The actual club was closed and bought by God Tv years ago, it's stood locked and empty for years.
Last year an art collective put an installation in there for the public. I walked around with my husband 3 year old and 1 year old in a sling. The memories! The paintings on the wall were still there, the great fluorescent ceiling rose that I waved my arms at so many times. It was surreal being there with my family considering the state I was in the last time I was inside 20 years ago.
Also had great time in Fabric - I would always get lost, never figured out the layout of that place! The Cross, The End, even when it was happening I knew they were special times.
