Hello all, just caught myself reminiscing about all the good times spent in fields and warehouses during my youth so would like some fellow cheesy quavers to come and talk about your best times so I feel less alone in big fish, little fish-ing in my living room.

Oh my god I have loads I started raving in 1999
Spent millennium (underage) at Camden palace. At midnight the DJ played power of love.

Camden palace for mind over matter and peach. The DJ played a hard house version of dire straits money for nothing. -

A illegal rave in lyyd airport

Heater skelter tent at global gathering

Drum and base rain dance at coranet

Going to the fridge, and mass in Brixton.......... god I could go on and on

19lottie82 · 04/01/2020 18:33

We went to a good couple of raves in disused railway tunnels...... good times! My friend took his wee sister who was a bit wet behind the ears. She asked him where the toilet was 😂

Toadonthetreadmill · 04/01/2020 18:34

Racheyg oh the Fridge- I also spent some good times there. Sometimes drive past it and feel my heart drop a bit now that it’s the Electric Brixton Blush

I was a massive raver, but very London-based, never did the illegal raves in fields thing (sadly!).

Started in 1991 at the Rocket in Holloway and various dodgy warehouses, then 92/93 used to go all over London - Labyrinth in Dalston, Desire and other rave promotions in Plumstead, Elevation on Lea valley Trading Estate, Lazerdrome in Peckham... and lots of Camden Palace!

I turned into a jungle raver 93/94, and then was a massive Garage girl. God, I used to dance all night and have such an amazing time.

Oh, the good old days! Grin

Youthgonemild · 04/01/2020 18:44

I taught my daughter ‘little fish, big fish, cardboard box’ today followed by ‘milk the cow’ so this thread has made me smile Grin

Oldraver · 04/01/2020 19:18

I once made the mistake (?) of showing DS2 footage of me at the last Hardcore Heaven at The Sanctuary, he was in disbelief for ages.

Actually probably best I don't remember too much

Atalune · 04/01/2020 20:23

I used pile in a car and go to raves in fields! Good times.

That and then club nights at the Arches in Glasgow, Colours at the Vaults in Edinburgh. Renaissance at The Tunnel. We used to save our money and go to various DJ/club nights. Carl Cox was epic as I recall.

Yes I took drugs, and they were amazing. So many good times, chats, mates.

I used to waitress in a local hotel and when we finished shift at 11pm me, another waitress and 2 kitchen porters used to pile in a car and drive 2hrs to either Wigan Pier (who remembers Zone??) or Club Ardshokk in Burnley then drive home as the sun was coming up Grin

Veronicat · 04/01/2020 21:06

I used to put on squat parties in London in the 90s. I'm dead straight now.

ForestYeti · 04/01/2020 21:08

Loved all nighters, favourite 2 were Holocaust in Ayr & galactica in Yorkshire, also went to a weekly one called after dark

Ribenaberriesgowoo82 · 04/01/2020 21:21

Ah The Sanctuary. Good times. Loved a bit of Bagleys too.

AltogetherAndrews · 04/01/2020 21:23

You know you can still go, there isn’t an age limit!

DowntownAbby · 04/01/2020 21:33

Blimey, I can't remember a lot of went on but I remember being at Shelley's Laserdome in Stoke in either '90 or '91 when Altern8 did a PA in the car park and thinking that was quite normal Grin We used to either go there or Angel's in Burnley most weekends at that time.

In '92 it was mostly Orbit in Ossett and later in Morley, then Renaissance when it was in Derby. I can't remember much of '94, in '95 I remember being at the first ever Essential Mix Live at Que club in Birmingham.

We gave up shortly after that as the comedowns were starting to get too much.

Watch this Friendly Fires clip if you want reminisce about just how crazy things were back then.

It's an interesting track actually as it talks about how us old timers tell the youngsters they missed the 'real' rave era and won't understand it. To be fair I agree, though. By 1995 rave was absolutely mainstream and therefore dead as a movement.

Justanotherlurker · 04/01/2020 21:55

I have loads from when I was a DJ for an underground soundsystem but they would be too outing so I will rely a couple of memorable ones.

One was us spending 12 hours in a wharehouse with barrel fires etc and the atmosphere was electric, it was only after the hat went round in the morning for money that people started clocking on that no one had actually seen the dj, out come a couple of people holding up a stolen car stereo and a load of tapes.

Another one is me wanting more of a buzz because the pills i had taken where shit, I swapped some really dodgy weed with 2 women in the toilets that wanted to come down, they handed me two pieces of corrugated cardboard, me and my mate took them thinking we had been done for and both come round on monday dancing in a field in a derbyshire quarry on monday morning.

Another one is going out for the criminal justice bill demo, going out the night before, being front page of the socialist worker and tabloids and missing hours in between walking the march swapping joints and stories to coming round dancing behind some dodgy sound system while a riot is taking place behind and police helicopters are flying over head telling everyone to diverse.

So, so many stories, ended up dj'ing deep house in San Fran for over 2 years, hacienda stories, midlands soundsystem, playing at the gardening club in london etc

Queenie8 · 04/01/2020 22:00

Sunny side up at the arches?
Vaxhaull - I can't remember the name of the club.
Dolly rockers, George's, the Cross and Bagleys. And of course Camden Palace - I remember losing my footing on the stairs from the gods, but it was so packed that I didn't tumble! 🤣

Vulgarlady · 04/01/2020 22:09

Love ranch in Leicester Square probably 1991. Some of the outfits worn were totally amazing. The girl in a black catsuit with a tabard made of 2 beaded car seat covers ( beloved of taxi drivers) was a particularly cool one.

Ballstothisdotcom · 04/01/2020 22:09

We used to go to Club UK and Peach.

And my god the drugs. Jesus Christ! I remember a guy from Mixmag asking to take my picture as ‘I was so fucked’ and me saying no as my mum might see it! Because she read Mixmag obviously.

I would be horrified if dcs were doing the things I did.

DowntownAbby · 04/01/2020 22:16

@Ballstothisdotcom I remember one of the dealers at a night our friend ran bringing potential customers to look at my mate because she was in such a state after one of his Es.

FruityWidow · 04/01/2020 22:19

In recent years down in Bristol it's the legal events that can't get the license granted in time and so the party gets cancelled with hundreds of people ready for a party so the crew end up having to find some remote place usually under the M32 to rave all night.

Bobbi73 · 04/01/2020 22:21

I started going to raves in 1989. Proper pile in a car and head off to a petrol station to find out where it was and into the countryside. It was bloody amazing!

Obviously, we were wrong but it felt like a societal shift. At least for a while, I loved the fact that anyone from anywhere, regardless of background could be dancing with you, sharing this amazing experience and it didn't seem to matter.
I'm old and pretty straight these days. Many thanks my school mum friends would be very shocked if they'd seen me then...

Bobbi73 · 04/01/2020 22:23

Many of not thanks!

MsChnandlerBong · 04/01/2020 22:25

Oh my! How much are we allowed to say before it becomes inappropriate?! I spent most of the late 90s and early 00s at Wigan Pier. I'll say no more yet!

doorbellringer · 04/01/2020 22:25
