To be absolutely livid with Amazon for this

I am not really AIBU as I know I am not but I need to vent.

I ordered an Occulus Virtual reality gift set for Christmas via Amazon Prime. It arrived yesterday or rather it didn't. My DD BF accepted delivery and the driver asked him to open the package as he said it was a delayed delivery and he needed to check what was inside it!

My DDs BF didn't know what I had ordered, just that I was expecting a delivery...Anyway just come back from a weeked away to discover instead of my £400 gift it was 3 bags of sugar! I am going to send it back but wont they query 3 bags of sugar when the label says its an Occulus headset!

I am so cross and holding on the line to them.

Why would the driver insist it was opened and do you think he has taken it and substituted it for the sugar!

I have never been asked by an Amazon driver to open a package to check it because it's a delayed delivery. I've always checked large/valuable deliveries for damage before accepting though, but it's not the delivery person who insists on it, it's my choice to do that. Sounds weird. I'd be suspicious.

EggysMom · 03/11/2019 15:40

So what did the driver say when showed three bags of sugar? Presumably he's a witness to the fact the delivery note didn't match the contents.

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 03/11/2019 15:41

I've never been asked to check anything. Doesn't sound right to me.

coconuttelegraph · 03/11/2019 15:41

So he opened the box and it was 3 bags of sugar and said that was OK to the driver?

Is that right? That's a bit strange, do you think the driver know the person who answered the door had no idea what should have been in the parcel. I've heard of this happening before but in this case you should get your money back no trouble as there's proof that the driver knows it was bags of sugar, no question that you're trying it on.

WelcomeToShootingStars · 03/11/2019 15:42

Eh? That makes no sense.

Why would the delivery have been accepted?

Babyiwantabump · 03/11/2019 15:42

How odd! Never had that before

crustycrab · 03/11/2019 15:43

Don't suppose DD BF is unusually flush this week is he?

HundredMilesAnHour · 03/11/2019 15:43

Doesn't sound at all normal. I think your DD's BF is pulling a fast one here.

coconuttelegraph · 03/11/2019 15:43

Did the bf not check the contents against the delivery note, bit odd that he thinks you would be buying sugar from Amazon, does he lack common sense?

Examssuck · 03/11/2019 15:44

Has bf taken them?

gaggiagirl · 03/11/2019 15:44

The driver has once asked me to open the box because the box was damaged in places and he wanted me to check the contents which I did and I signed to say they were fine.

iklboo · 03/11/2019 15:44

Sounds very dodgy

SunshineAngel · 03/11/2019 15:45

Is there any remote possibility that he has put the sugar in and taken the actual item? The story seems weird. The delivery driver would never, ever ask for the package to be opened at the door - even less so when it was being signed for by someone other than the recipient. Do you really trust this boy?

pollyhampton · 03/11/2019 15:45

If the label said what it was supposed to be why did the bf accept three bags of sugar?

comedycentral · 03/11/2019 15:46

Don't be livid with Amazon yet, they have had no opportunity to fix this. It's the driver or the boyfriend.

JustAnotherMammi · 03/11/2019 15:46

I received a phone case instead of some pram clips once! Mix ups do happen. But the story of driver requesting he open it doesn't sound right to me which makes me lean towards boyfriend is lying.

cheers4nothing · 03/11/2019 15:46

did the BF not wonder why there were 3 bags of sugar inside?

also, never had to open an Amazon order.

purplepalace · 03/11/2019 15:47

I have had delayed parcels from amazon and never been asked to open it.

Also how could he ask someone to open it if the parcel wasn't addressed to them....very dodgy.

FallenSky · 03/11/2019 15:47

Sorry but I agree with PP's. I'd be questioning the BF.

Travis1 · 03/11/2019 15:48

So he saw it was 3 bags of sugar and accepted the delivery?!

Sparklesocks · 03/11/2019 15:49

This is really suspicious and odd - what did the driver say when the box contained only sugar?

HeyDuggeesCakeBadge · 03/11/2019 15:49

Boyfriend has most definitely taken them.

Nicknacky · 03/11/2019 15:49

But if he and the driver checked the delivery then it would have been obvious it was wrong.

The boyfriend is at it.

TruffleShuffles · 03/11/2019 15:49

Are amazon delivery drivers even aware what is in the packages they deliver? So even if the delivery driver did ask, which seems strange anyway how would he have known himself whether it was the right thing or not?

malmi · 03/11/2019 15:49

White or brown sugar?
