To be absolutely livid with Amazon for this

I am not really AIBU as I know I am not but I need to vent.

I ordered an Occulus Virtual reality gift set for Christmas via Amazon Prime. It arrived yesterday or rather it didn't. My DD BF accepted delivery and the driver asked him to open the package as he said it was a delayed delivery and he needed to check what was inside it!

My DDs BF didn't know what I had ordered, just that I was expecting a delivery...Anyway just come back from a weeked away to discover instead of my £400 gift it was 3 bags of sugar! I am going to send it back but wont they query 3 bags of sugar when the label says its an Occulus headset!

I am so cross and holding on the line to them.

Why would the driver insist it was opened and do you think he has taken it and substituted it for the sugar!

Wasn't there also a delivery note? And if you're expecting the driver to know what's in there, surely DD's BF would have seen the label too?

I definitely would be questioning him...

CokeAndCrispsAndDip · 03/11/2019 15:49

The story makes no sense. If the bf checked it and found it to be sugar surely he would have refused it. Someone is lying, very possibly the bf and why would the driver want it checked if it was him who stole it?

cannycat20 · 03/11/2019 15:50

Where is this world where the label on Amazon parcels says what the contents are without actually opening the parcel?!

And the only time in over ten years I've ever had a delivery driver say that kind of thing is when the box was damaged (contents inside were fine though and what they were supposed to be). Sounds more like your DD's BF is playing some kind of trick to me. Does he have a really dodgy sense of humour, by any chance?

Unshriven · 03/11/2019 15:50

Aren't you the poster with the Ring doorbell issues, and the family members who behave in incomprehensible ways? Hmm

One of you is on the make, I'd say.

Wildorchidz · 03/11/2019 15:50

No. I think your dd’s boyfriend took it.

YouFellAsleeep · 03/11/2019 15:50

Surely he wouldn’t have to open it because it was delayed? What difference does that make? I’ve never had to open a delayed package at the door. Also, a bit risky making someone open the parcel at the door in case it ruins a gift surprise for that person. Something definitely isn’t right here.

PositiveVibez · 03/11/2019 15:51

Dodgy AF.

I have never heard of a delivery man asking to open up a parcel.

And also, is the bf a bit dim. Why would anyone order 3 bags of sugar off Amazon.

Somebody is telling porkies here.

ReceptacleForTheRespectable · 03/11/2019 15:51

So he saw three bags of sugar and thought "That's normal, people order sugar from Amazon all the time" ??

Something doesn't stack up, that's for sure. Why did he not say, "hang about, this seems weird, what's on the invoice/delivery note?"

TinyGhostWriter · 03/11/2019 15:52

I don’t understand why the driver would ask someone to check the contents at the door.

Sparklesocks · 03/11/2019 15:52

Also was it an amazon box? They don’t normally say the contents inside as they are standard boxes, just the usual address label etc.

It’s the BF. Not Amazons fault

It's more likely that the BF nicked it than the driver, anyway. The driver would be risking their job for something that isn't valuable enough to be worth it.

He's invented the story about the driver, and made this up to shift the blame.

Stevienickssleeves · 03/11/2019 15:54

Chinny reckon, dd's boyfriend, chinniest of reckons

Caaarrrl · 03/11/2019 15:54

This sounds really dodgy. Very strange that someone would think you had ordered sugar from Amazon

KitschBitch · 03/11/2019 15:54

Grin what malmi said

NoSquirrels · 03/11/2019 15:55

Sounds HUGELY unlikely.

Your DD’s BF is how old? He’s at fault regardless because 1) he should have refused to open a package not addressed to him and 2) he should have checked what was supposed to be in there when he discovered 3 bags of sugar.

Nearly always, the most likely explanation is the correct one.

Your DD’s BF signed for a package visibly displaying the contents as an expensive VR set. He opened it. He took the contents and is selling you an unbelievable story about being asked to open the box...

Woodlandwitch · 03/11/2019 15:56

Weird, no doubt yet to get weirder

PositiveVibez · 03/11/2019 15:56

Chinny reckon, dd's boyfriend, chinniest of reckons

😂

Tapbath · 03/11/2019 15:56

They're have been occasions in news etc where stuff has been replaced with sugar/flour/other random crap, but this sounds like the bf has read those and came up with a crap story to cover him nicking it, why would the delivery driver ask him to open it up?

heidbuttsupper · 03/11/2019 15:57
Biscuit
Cuddling57 · 03/11/2019 15:58

How bizarre!

coconuttelegraph · 03/11/2019 16:03

For those saying the bf did it - how? Is he a master criminal quickly taking advantage of mystery package, rushing to the nearest sugar shop, bribing the driver to go along with his story?

Anyway, I don't usually notice posters name but by chance I remember you OP from your thread about the Ring doorbell, how lucky that you will have an actual video record of the box being opened and the sugar displayed.

Can you post it? Maybe someone can tell if it's a genuine Amazon driver.

MeTheCoolOne · 03/11/2019 16:03

Can we have a photo please OP 😊
