"Next time I see it I'm burning it"

So I have this tshirt thats actually from quite a posh brand, it's a grey tshirt made from a really soft drapey cotton and it's dark grey and loose. I love the feel of it and how it moves, it's quite baggy and I wear it round the house.

Theres just one problem which is I left it outside in the garden for a whole winter and when I finally moved myself and brought it in last spring or something obviously I washed it, but now not only does it have a few (very small) holes on it, the fabric is damaged and staind kind of on the front almost like its rusted (if fabric could rust).

So anyway the other day I'm sitting around in it. DP has seen me wear it around before but this time he said "seriously can you not just buy another basic grey lounging tshirt? Next time I see it I'm burning it!"

Kinda lighthearted but where do you stand on wearing decrepit clothing?

It’s great for the planet to keep using stuff and not always want new - go for it!

parrotonmyshoulder · 25/10/2019 12:10

Wear it, don’t wear it. Doesn’t matter. But had you forgotten it or just couldn’t be arsed to fetch it in?!

Baguetteaboutit · 25/10/2019 12:11

You left it outside for a WHOLE winter? Grin

Pandainmyporridge · 25/10/2019 12:11

I think I'd draw the line at a top that had spent a winter as part of your garden.

gwackywacky · 25/10/2019 12:11

@StrawberryGoo thank you! My view is fuck it it feels good and I'm only wearing it in te house so...
@parrotonmyshoulder couldn't be fucked 🤷‍♂️🤣

@Baguetteaboutit Hey some people pay £££ for "distressed" clothing!!!

Sindragosan · 25/10/2019 12:13

If it had been out for a whole winter I'd probably have burnt it myself. Buy a new one and cut the old one up for floor cloths.

Oysterbabe · 25/10/2019 12:14

I'm team flames.

areyouafraidofthedark · 25/10/2019 12:14

Why are you that lazy to not bring clothes inside? Buy a new one!

Tartsamazeballs · 25/10/2019 12:14

Good god not a chance... What if the door goes! If you want to reuse it cut it up for dusters 😂

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 25/10/2019 12:15

It spent a winter outside? I think I would assume that the T shirt was for the bin now.

gwackywacky · 25/10/2019 12:15

@areyouafraidofthedark if I tell you you would judge me even harder Grin

I’m amazed a T-shirt could survive a whole winter outside. Where did you actually leave it? Are you talking hanging on a washing line or crumpled in a heap on the patio?

ReanimatedSGB · 25/10/2019 12:15

I wear ratty old clothes when I'm slobbing round the house - as long as something's been washed it doesn't matter if it's stained.

I suppose some people might think that it's 'disrespectful' to your partner to wear tatty clothes when you're home alone but that seems fairly silly to me. OK, it's a bit much to stop washing yourself to the point that you actually stink when there's no one but your family around, but looking slobby at home is surely up to you. And a partner who actually demands that you choose your outfit to fit in with the partner's preferences is being controlling and should be told to piss off.

Cleverplayonwords · 25/10/2019 12:16

I can't get over leaving a T-shirt in the garden for a whole winter.

gwackywacky · 25/10/2019 12:16

@ReanimatedSGB absolutely with you

@MyNewBearTotoro in a heap on the decking

OP posts:
Andysbestadventure · 25/10/2019 12:17

Stick it in some oxy overnight to get the stains out.

I have a super thin maternity tshirt from Newlook from a couple of years ago when I was pregnant. It is the comfiest thing in the world. It has started getting holes in the dryer, a few tiny grease marks even fairy platinum wont budge and deodorant stains that wont bugger off 😭

I still wear it though, have just relegated it to the lounging/PJ drawer 😁

Andysbestadventure · 25/10/2019 12:19

Oh if it was on decking OP the stain could be creosote and I deffo wouldn't want that against my skin Sad

Cohle · 25/10/2019 12:19

Jesus, no I wouldn't wear a t-shirt that I had abandoned outside for months on end. I don't think it's controlling of your partner to think that that's weird.

Nighttimefreedom · 25/10/2019 12:22

Did you not look at it lying there and think 'oh no, that t shirt I love is going to get ruined!'?

Nighttimefreedom · 25/10/2019 12:22

But yeah, it's up to you what you wear, no one else.

MrGsFancyNewVagina · 25/10/2019 12:23

The number spider willies that have been dragged over that shirt! Shock

gwackywacky · 25/10/2019 12:23

@Andysbestadventure just googling it now and yeah it could be :-/
@Nighttimefreedom no because I assumed rain wasnt a big deal

I think when people pay good money for distressed clothing it's because they want to stay on the right side of looking like an extra on Angela's Ashes.
